  • In this video I was out in Yorkshire to film locomotive 7029 "Clun Castle" as it pulls another The Christmas White Rose to York. I decided to stop first at Church Fenton and then the plan was to travel to York to film it leave for it's return leg.
I was lucky enough this time to see the locomotive being turned on the turn table. Sadly due to the distance I was unable to get a clear steady shot. Also everything filmed at York was handheld. While filming on the bridge over the sidings, the wind picked up as well. Also things didn't fully go to plan when "Clun Castle" left York. Due to the lighting, and also the bright lights from the platform I was unable to use all the footage I filmed. The camera also struggled with focus.
This is the only trouble with these Christmas rail tours when they leave York, it's already dark.

Thank you. It was worth the wait in the cold, just a shame how dark it was when it left.

Very nice openining sequence in the first part and nice evening departing of clun Castle too, strange but my plans were just the same as yours, same station but Northern let us down being 40 late would have missed the arrival, cheers for sharing . 👍🙂🎥

Hi Stephen thanks for watching and the comment. That's a shame about the late train. I know originally I was going to be on platform 4 to film it at Church Fenton, but there was also another late running train which had the risk of blocking my view. This did arrive as Clun Castle was arriving, and glad I decided to be on platform 3. It was just a shame it got too dark when it left York to return, as is was on Real Train Times to arrive at York around 15.29 for a 1613 departure. But like always, it never goes to plan hehe :).

The tender looks very low on coal for the journey back to Birmingham ? Did you make it ?

@rogerredding5269 I've not heard about anything happening, unless it collected some more coal on route.
