I wonder if they'll have 4014 ceremonially deliver 5511 to Illinois, it seems awfully strange that they would steam Big Boy up just for this little movement. If the excursion is off for this Fall, I could see it honestly happening. Not sure when they're planning 3985's move.
@@hawkeyeten2450 Supposedly 5511, 3985, and the rest of the equipment are going all at once, I highly doubt pulled by 4014. Using big boy to move 5511 around the yard is An amazing thing to see it’s like a British freight or passenger engine with a tender marshaling trucks in the yard instead of a Class 08 shunter. That's because it's not a helper, it's there as insurance in part, but mainly to provide enough electricity to the passenger cars so that they have fun things like lights and A/C. My great grandfather worked for UP out of portland Oregon and retired around 1955. His entire rail road career was steam. He passed before i was born, i sure wished i could have heard some of his stories.
I think the reason why big boy is move up 5511 is because the 2-10-2 Santa fe was the one that was the helper locomotive during the age of steam so it returning the favor
Honestly big boy should be the one to take 5511 and 3985 to Illinois and even at centennial diesel to. 4014 should also be the one to Marshall 3985 around the yard as well for transportation when her time comes
It would make sense to use 6936 as it is fully operational. They could perhaps do a double header with that and 4014, that would certainly be interesting.
@@EvilTurkeySlices That is a good idea but the 6936 hasn’t moved in so long and I know the round house she’s in is immune from the effects or elements that can cause boiler rot and engine deterioration but her wheels are probably going to need to be greased up and her axles so she can move at least plus she needs to go through some engine testing to make sure she could be able to go to silvis on our own or double head
