can u imagine where we in the U.S. would be " IF " we lost electricity! we never prepare for what might come, and the ridicule preppers is unbelievable. When disaster happens! Most everyone is standing around waiting on!!! Nome other than good Ole Unk Sam to come get them or bring them means to survive. What has happened to being RESPONSIBLE ! These people right here would survive most any natural, or man made disaster. Good folks.

Not only U.S.!That is common for all city children.I'm from suburb of small town(10-12000 inhabitants)and from age 11 I've been splitting woods with axe for kitchen and room furnace.I was shocked some 2-3 years ago, when I was at my friends party, and he was starting fire for bbq.Boy,that was disgrace for a man of 46 years how he was expected to start a fire. And then he was saying same as you now,how would he manage one day in apocalyptic scenario when he can't properly light a fire. ;-)

AIDS, starvation, drought, malaria- those are just a few wonderful tourism highlights for Uganda. oh yeah, warlords and child soldiers too!!!! Dont forget about healthcare being pretty much nonexistent. sounds like a great place to visit. 1 week in country and you'd be praying for some chips and a rerun of the East Enders.

This is a great stove and heater. I would want to make it wider and longer, so that you can set things on it to keep warm like bread and coffee, and even sit on it if it's cold! Rocket stove mass heaters like this will retain heat and radiate warmth for hours after the fire has gone out.

It cracked as the main tube was removed. Easily fixed at that stage but the addition of some chopped straw to the mixture would add some reinforcement. I wonder how long the stove lasts before it cracks and becomes unusable.

you could do the same thing without the pipes.
for the firebox, use flexible sticks stuck into the ground arched over, then stuck in again as a frame to support the clay. (let dry for a at least 24 hours before lighting a fire inside to avoid cracking, and start small. the stick frame will burn away)
for the chimney, any old log will do.
i've built a few earthen ovens using this method and it works beautifully.
another method for the fire box is to just use wet sand. build the sand into the desired shape of the interior of your firebox, then build the clay up around it. once the clay has dried enough to support its own weight, dig out the sand from the inside.
but yea, great video, great design! definitely gonna build one next summer.
