- April and May updates… Pixel is starting to learn a few new things! One of them being jumping. We are starting to prepare for both of the competitions. Once I go on the road, I will hopefully be posting weekly updates. Stay tuned!

What is the point of hobbles randomly without being in saddle or close to them? I’m asking because I hear a lot about them being abusive, see it and think it’s awful but I’m curious if you can answer the real reason you use them? I’m a new equestrian and have learned a lot of things from non horse people are instant “abuse” labels when they just don’t know what it’s like to work with a horse.

I believe that’s the point… to not be right next to her. It can help them learn to be patient and not try to pull away if they get caught up in something.
Besides, why would you do that while riding???
@@aleksa-eq She’s not using it to help ride her!! I don’t like the idea at all of hobbling for riding! It’s simply good for the horses to learn! For instance, if she were to get caught up in a fence, she would most likely try to pull away and hurt herself badly. But if she knows how to hobble, she might wait for someone to help and not fight and get hurt as much!

@@aleksa-eq Ofc! I’m not just the hugest fan of hobbles either… but apparently they are helpful in teaching a horse not to try to escape if caught up in something. 🙂
