As a professional watercolor and oil painter/illustrator, i have never liked acrylics but there are times when the speed and ability to make it look like oils has recently made me hunt around on RUclips to se if any acrylic artists have some methods which would be useful..and, you, are the only one. At first, when i came upon you, i only saw rose paintings which, at first, as it is subject metter and ‘look’ i wasn’t interested in..but…one time, i left you on..while doing other things, but your pleasant voice meant i left your demo on and i began to glance up to see what you were doing…well…i want to say that you are the only acrylic artist i have seen who has really investigated how to use a wide range of techniques and edge variations…i have enjoyed you landscape investigations and i have really begun to understand how to get what i want from acrylics….of course, i have bought all the heritage colors and mediums…excellent stuff. Thank you so much because now i have begun to be able to utilize the best aspects of acrylic..and all because of you.❣️
Wow, thank you so much. That really means a lot. There is lots more coming very soon. So happy to talk with artists that know the importance of edges and techniques. Thank you.
Your rose painting is absolutely beautiful and does look more like a watercolor painting instead of one painted with acrylics. I like the kemfer tool or wipe out tool for adding impressions, pulling off color or creating sketch marks. The addition of branches and leaves add alot of color and interest. I am happy to say I would like to try painting soft roses one day and this can be attributed to your encouragement and excellent teaching! Thank you, for adding joy and beauty to our world.
I subscribed to your channel a long time ago but only just now have realised what wonderful teacher you are and your style of painting is what I’d love to be able to achieve. You have magic in your hands sir! Thank you!
As a former China painter I just loved this video with its pale colours and new techniques I can’t wait to try it myself you are so versatile and clever your talent is endless hello from Adelaide South Australia x
It is very fun. You can even make the surface a little harder by adding some sealer to your bascoat. That makes the wipe out tool work really well. Fun to try!
You really did get us through a very tough year David this I will never forget I love this casual technique this beautiful casual painting can hang anywhere in my house!! I have some catching up to do ! Thank-you for everything you do !
H.S. back in the 70's Lol, me too. I was also an acrylic stroke artist 20+ yrs. So hard to switch over to free hand or AKA casual painting. Myself being very left brained enjoyed the precision and structure of the learned strokes and brush control but , like you, found my compositions to be stiff and not evolve creativity. Thank you for the time you invest in sharing your artisty and your stories of previous years of structured painting. It has inspired me to keep trying to paint casual. Thank you again!
What an inspiring further technique! I really love this way of painting and creating very much!! Thank you again and again showing and sharing your wonderful kinds of techniques.
So effortless. I'm constantly amazed at what you accomplish in such a short time. I'm still learning, takes me a few days... But I'm getting there. And from this video, I learned a new, very technical, art term from you. I'd never heard "strokey" before. But yeah, I guess alot of my paintings are a bit strokey. Love watching your vids and I'm so grateful you're sharing so much with us.
hi david i have missed you i guess i have been into paper arts i love making my own art journals from old free books ,thank you i need to use my special paints i bought from you
Yes! Please try. The first time, it will be a bit hard, maybe awkward. But paint the flowers again. It gets better. And again. Soon, your brush and hand will be working with your mind. And everything will be better. We are so glad you are painting with us. 😊
Hello from Portugal!!! This technique is so delicate and beautiful! It's just not fair that it is impossible to order these paints and extenders from anywhere in Europe. I just have a few of your acrylics, which I ordered from France, but their choice of colours is so limited that I have to use also other acrylic brands, which completely changes the outcome. Missed seeing your dogs😀
Thank you so much Helena! We are looking into other ways to get our paints in other countries. With all this COVID supply chains are not working correctly. We will keep trying. Thank you!!
It’s always a joy to watch you paint… love this soft look. 💕 David… You’re painting this one on your easel but when your not using it do you have your board or canvas lay level on the table or is it always elevated to some degree?
Thank you so much 😀 Yes, I always paint at a slight angle. Mostly it is for the glare of the lights and camera, but I really enjoy painting at an angle. Many of my students now use drafting tables and adjust the angle for what they like.
Very gentle style, I love it! I have a slightly off-topic question - how did you attach the board to the easel grey board? Have already painted along with one of your other rose videos, your way of explaining is one of the best on RUclips. Thank you very much.
just finished watching this, ordered extender, Matisse open medium, and for gouache as well. i will save for the paint colors for they are expensive. still you taught well. thank you. maybe can you paint a3-tier waterfalls with a sunrise? thank you and a shadow with people swimming
As always never disappointed thank you so much for sharing. i have tried to order the tool kemper wipe out after watchin you in porceln some time ago where to buy item. forgive my spelling
@@JansenArtEducation yes sir I was painting daily.when ever my rose goes wrong I remember saying of yours " Don't say u can't paint, every one will get it."
Watched this again since I was doing a bouquet of flowers, and gained some tips that I needed to attain a casual look, so thank you, David!
Awesome. Glad it can inspire you!
This is a beautiful painting. I loved to see the whole process. You

I use inexpensive double sided carpet tape. Works great. Comes off and then I paint the back to finish.

WOW!
Hello sir I love your paintings a lot .
May I know how many years it took to master these .
It is not how many years, it is how much you paint. If you paint everyday you can paint beautiful roses in a very short time.

I may have missed something but can this be done on wooden boards or is it only suited to canvas or canvas panel. Cheers, very gentle and lovely.
You can do it on any surface you desire. Different effects come from canvas weave though.
😊
Thanks!
