    Although I probably won't use a UV sterilizer, I do love Fluval products. I always have some Bug Bites for my fish, and I've got a couple Fluval hang on the back filters that I think are great. Also, I would absolutely love to see your pond! I've done my first pond this year, and it is just as fun as my aquariums.

    My $40 UV unit has made my water crystal clear and works great compared to what it was like before I installed it. Not that the water wasn't already clear and satisfactory. I just wanted to see if a cheap unit would actually work or not. I wasn't disappointed because my water is absolutely crystal clear now.

    Matt - Thanks for the review of this product. I saw someone else on RUclips who lost fish after installing this on their aquarium. I noticed the old model fluval had a timer feature which seems to indicate you should only operate it for a certain amount of time each day. The unit you installed doesn’t have this feature. Now that it has been a few months since installing it, what have you noticed and are you satisfied with the water quality and overall fish health? Ready to pull the trigger but the one negative review video I watched has me concerned and I don’t want to injure my fish. Thanks in advance!

    From research, a clarifier is low wattage as it can't achieve the levels of sterilisation that high wattage units need. Equally in turn that will by why the bulb can run for so long (its not working as hard so use's less heat and won't burn out quickly)

    I've come to my own conclusion, it's rather novel; water and power don't mix. The reason hang-on-backs are excluded, the magnetized propeller is behind plastic. My UV/filter nearly killed my koi. I have yet to investigate, but my guess is the UV bulb. My koi recovered, luckily, but it took about a month this summer for them to get back to normal. Only reason I figured it out is it shocked me putting it back in the water after cleaning. One koi would just hang next to the filter, waiting to die, I had no idea why, but he's good now. If you do run power/UV, run it well out of the water, just like this Fluval FX UVC.

    • @FishShopMatt
      @FishShopMatt  Год назад +3

      oOoOO that doesn't sound good! You may find the quartz sleeve that keeps the water away from the bulb has been leaking or is broken. This would let water into the electrical bit of the UV which would possibly explain what you have been suffering! Hope it's all sorted now!
