The in universe reason for his rapid progress through the Academy is that the UEE was going through a kind of contraction before the Battle of Vega. Budgets were being cut and defence forces shrunk due to a whole host of reasons that go back through at least a century or two with the Navy not really being seen as effective after a long period of Vanduul inactivity. After Vega (the prologue battle) funds flooded in and the Navy drastically expanded itself to face a new period of war, so he got himself fast tracked to fill the gaps in the Navy's pilot roster that were left in the wake of Vega. There's also another factor: space travel in Star Citizen's universe isn't something only for the rich or for nation states. Civilian space travel is very affordable and there are a huge number of people who own and fly private ships, even at the lowest end. They're as common as a modern day sedan. They are also armed, even if only with a pair of pea shooters, because piracy is very much a constant threat in the UEE. The Navy's manufacturers rapidly factored into this by producing civilian grade variants of the military's vessels with vastly downgraded weaponry that could also couple as small cargo runners or militia ships, preparing a huge amount of the population for an upgrade to combat pilot status with relatively little training time needed. After all, training to fly an F-16 after only flying a Cessna turbo prop is one thing, training to fly one after having flown a 'civilian' F-16 for a number of years is another matter entirely. The same is true for military equipment, the same companies who supply the military with their gear also offer downgraded equivalents on the civilian market so there is less time needed to familiarize new recruits with the military variants. Stuff like knowing how to use the mag-pads in your gloves and boots to latch onto the hull of a ship, how to propel yourself without an EVA pack and indeed even basic space combat and vehicle/weapon maintenance is less of a product of advanced training as it is a basic safety requirement for anyone who's owned even the most basic civilian ships or had a job operating in space. @Hacksar well....considering they don't even have ships to go up in space I think space forces stuff would all be theoretical right? That's the funny thing about space force... They talk theory craft for the most part from what I understand lol
SATA Ball is a common EVA sport somewhere in between American football and soccer played in zero-g. In lore it is more popular than just about any other sport in existence. so yes it is feasible that he can navigate his way around a zero-g environment with somewhat skill. also artificial gravity also means artificial anti-gravity. You could easily build a SATA ball court just about anywhere.
@Hacksar We should get it eventually. The funny thing is that many years ago, they held a small writing competition for players to describe what Sataball is knowing only that it is a popular sport. The writers selected their favorite 8 and then I think people voted on the finalists, or something like that. My entry was actually one of the top 8, but wasn't what won. The final sport that was selected was a bit more complicated than what I had in mind. I kinda think that for a sport to be really popular, it has to be something that anyone can play. Requiring a bunch of special gear kind of negates that. But it's all good; what they came up with looked fun. It was worked on for a long time, but all that work got discarded for some stupid reasons. It may change by the time it's released. During the event where they played through this, they listed some kind of sports league you could join (in the MMO version of this game). They were probably talking about ship and vehicle racing, but I think they would have called it a racing league if they didn't want to include Sataball.
@Hacksar Okay, so Sataball is an interesting one. Originally, it was just a popular sport in the UEE. Then there was a writing competition where people could submit ideas on how the sport would work, with very little being defined ahead of time. The writing team then selected their 6 or 8 favorite, and the other players voted on those to determine the winner. I actually was one of those 6 or 8, but I didn't win. I thought that if a sport is going to be really popular, it shouldn't require a lot of expensive equipment; even poor kids should be able to play. The winning entry was a bit more elaborate than what I came up with, but that's fine. This was like a decade ago. Then they tasked a partner company with the FPS portion of the game as well as Sataball. I haven't seen Ender's Game, but I think it was based on that. I don't remember if this conforms to the writing contest winner or not. But sadly, almost all this work was thrown away for "compatibility and metrics" reasons; sounded stupid to me. They haven't shown Sataball since then, but at the same event where they showed this playthrough, they also referenced a Sports Guild (in the online, multiplayer version of this game). That covers spaceship and vehicle racing and the "Cargolympics," but presumably Sataball will also eventually be included. It just isn't a priority right now. Eventually, the expectation will be that players who are good at these sports can form teams, compete, and have their games broadcast around the universe by other players acting as reporters. So you could drop by a bar and see other players playing sports on a screen. Some day... some day. Point being that exposure to Sataball could explain the average citizen's competence in zero-G. I still have a few nitpicks with the zero-G, but it seems mostly good and fun. Was fun watching your reaction, BTW. Not often someone who worked on a carrier reacts to this game.
Yeah you have to forgive the lack of realistic space combat tactics, it's a stylistic choice that the Director picked to have WW2 in space style gameplay, flight and tactics.

A bit disappointed with this react, the biggest issue I had was that when you wanted to talk about something you didn't pause the video and talked over sections and dialogue that I was interested in seeing how you reacted. a quick example would be the bit before the speech at ruclips.net/video/ifj05Z3vcUA/видео.html . the other issue is that you were saying fake news at a lot of things but don't elaborate. one thing that you talked about that I wanted to sort of answer. during turret gameplay you mentioned that they needed to lead the target, Star Citizen has two targeting modes, trailing and leading. most if not all games use leading targeting where it puts a marker in front of the target. leading however puts a marker to where your shots will go in relation to the target. I believe the dev playing here was using trailing targeting
Woah! Super helpful comment, thank you! If I decide to do another react at some point I will keep this in mind for sure. Pausing at points and explaining more of my comments is a must.
Roberts thrives in Retro scifi this was also the case with wing commander and with freelancer. huge space battleships and dreadnoughts that have no place in todays military because they are seen as obsolete. also ballistics actual make sense in space if energy fields are a thing youd probably have a mixture of heat based and ballistic weapons in space. it makes for a cool experience though too

@Hacksar well wing commander is old af (from the early to late 90s). However it was the first space sims that implemented cutscenes in thebform of movies
Take it from an expert on Star Ctizen warfare from the 2900 era especially the battle of Orion, siege of Tiber and the fall of Caliban, everything you saw and all tactics in this video is all accurate and true. Nothing fake news about this :) :p And trust me... the crew you saw in this video had a much harder time and had to work a lot harder than what you did during your time in the current navy. Small other point, In the 2900's it actually is much easier to make curved ships with glass instead of ships with straight lines :p Oh and yes, all crew in the UEE Navy have to do EVA (ExtraVehicular Activity) training before they can join. ;) Unfortunately a lot of comments you gave during your vid is fake news. Better read up on the battles in Star Citizen :p coz you are lacking some knowledge on these topics. On the other hand you already said yourself in the vid that you only talk shit :D It's a shame you can't watch a gameplay or trailer without analysing everything to your experiences. he talks about the formation of the fleet as if he's been in a space battle. what do you want the space ship with 6 degrees of movement and no cover to do? hide behind the empty space? form up in a conga line. lol also who ever said the vanduul are the only hostile race doesnt know much lore. the firstencounter with the banu was a human race running into a wanted criminal XD the Xi'an have periodically had skirmish's in the past with humans. The Tevarin fought two wars against humans amd finally the Kr'Thak are the enemies of the Xi'an and have been at war with them for 800 years. the Xi'an have stated that the UEE should never seek poltical ties with them or else the Xi'an might have something to say about it and it wouldn't be good news for us.
I know nothing about the lore or anything, very cool to know there's more out there! I was thinking there would be more movement to the ships and approaches from different angles. I don't know anything ultimately 🤣
@ so I’ve been playing this game since 2016. The approach in my experience is not super relevant in my opinion. Ship radars are have such ranges that you can’t simply sneak up on someone unless your using stealth ship. If you were to do a sphere around an enemy all you’d be doing is thinning out your defense. They could punch thru the sphere and work their way around singling out one ship at a time. They aren’t really on the same plain and they are spread out enough that they wouldn’t take each other out if one goes up in flames. But close enough that trying to single out one ship could be costly. Like the ship that pushed to hard and was only able to take out one idris before being taken out. The ships glass not only is the glass they use incredibly strong, I forgot what they said it is. But they mentioned it’s incredibly strong stuff. Also on top of that all ships have shields which adds to the protection. Those ships that did flank was squadron 42 which is obviously the name of the single player. Getting off track, going back to positioning. The best position in space combat is simply the one that reduces your cross section the most so the area they hit is minimized. So you need to either keep your ship facing the enemy or away from them. There’s a lot to space combat and it changes depending on how big your ship is. The game is a lot of fun and you only need to spend like 45-60 to experience it. The reasons they sell ships is because it’s actually a pledge. 99% of their funds come from the player base and not from any parent company. They have like one company that helps fund them and it’s only a little. 700 million was funded thru the player base and if you want to see what will be in the online aspect called star citizen I’d recommend watching all their CitizenCon videos from this year as it really shows what’s going on. Super awesome stuff going on just saying!
@metalrain300 For sure! I'm so sorry I came across negatively, I'll be doing another one later today and actually presenting my thoughts properly. Really good points to bring up, especially the cross section part. I have no idea what I'm talking about and need to make sure I voice that more often in future videos 😊
@ it’s all good, you come from a naval background. So you apply the logic you know to it. Which is fine. I may of came off a bit negative myself, so I’m sorry about that as well. It’s partly cause I have a lot of passion for this game. Keep truckin and I appreciate the responses.

the combat are depicted like that because Chris Robert the Creator of this game is very interrested in the first and second world war. So he wanted to create a space opera game that is like what dog fight was looking at the time but in space.
Fulguro, thanks for pointing that out! I love space operas and think the whole cutscene and gameplay was really cool. I regret how my tone and words came out. Chris Robert has a great vision!
@@Hacksar Nah your tone was ok, i just specified because in todays aviation and combat for sure things dont happend that way and thanks for your service.
i can kinda forgive them lining up like that at the start of the battle because lorewise it was the literal last line, i just imagine they had actual flanking and other kind of battles somwehere else in space but now they are directly at the planet they try to protect while people are evacuating, so standing at front of it is their last stand. but yes it was mostly rule of cool scifi

I think your forgetting this game is set in the future... The use navy is all about space now.. so like in irl they would be trained in everything to do with space instead of water
You have a great point! I wonder what training members of Space Force get? (should that be a . or a ? ?)
You could easily build a SATA ball court just about anywhere.
cloning is not available in game at this point in time. lore wise.
Hey man, thanks for sharing that lore! I am very uneducated about Star Citizen and it showed. I am excited to see how the game grows!
Sataball is a popular sport in this world, and that's a zero-G sport. It was going to he put into the game many years ago, but it never happened.
Sataball??? All I can think of is something like Ender's Game space room combat! I wish we do get it in the game eventually :D
@@Hacksar which was a what it was based on.

Give the game a go, it’s actually pretty incredible when it actually works! Star Citizen that is, not Squadron 42.

Roberts thrives in Retro scifi this was also the case with wing commander and with freelancer. huge space battleships and dreadnoughts that have no place in todays military because they are seen as obsolete. also ballistics actual make sense in space if energy fields are a thing youd probably have a mixture of heat based and ballistic weapons in space. it makes for a cool experience though too
What an amazing comment! I think I need to look into Wing Commander, people keep mentioning it and it seems sick. Definitely agree about the mixed weapons and also it just being cool 😊
@Hacksar well wing commander is old af (from the early to late 90s). However it was the first space sims that implemented cutscenes in thebform of movies
@Warsheep2k6 Super cool fact! I think real cut scenes in games is so cheesy and corny and fun in a good way. 😊
2026 is not that far away.
Take it from an expert on Star Ctizen warfare from the 2900 era especially the battle of Orion, siege of Tiber and the fall of Caliban, everything you saw and all tactics in this video is all accurate and true. Nothing fake news about this :) :p
And trust me... the crew you saw in this video had a much harder time and had to work a lot harder than what you did during your time in the current navy.
Small other point, In the 2900's it actually is much easier to make curved ships with glass instead of ships with straight lines :p
Oh and yes, all crew in the UEE Navy have to do EVA (ExtraVehicular Activity) training before they can join. ;)
Unfortunately a lot of comments you gave during your vid is fake news. Better read up on the battles in Star Citizen :p coz you are lacking some knowledge on these topics.
On the other hand you already said yourself in the vid that you only talk shit :D
It's a shame you can't watch a gameplay or trailer without analysing everything to your experiences.
Also a shame that during the most epic scenes you only talk about yourself and your experiences in the navy and middle school and moustages.
I wouldn't classify this vid as a U.S. Navy Veteran Makes Fun Of: Squadron 42 - Official Gameplay Reveal | CitizenCon 2954 - IGN, but more like a kid talking shit :)

also who ever said the vanduul are the only hostile race doesnt know much lore. the firstencounter with the banu was a human race running into a wanted criminal XD
the Xi'an have periodically had skirmish's in the past with humans.
