    All very good points.
    To fix the primary issues of the game for me, ignoring the “smaller” issues like no proper steering wheel rotation, no window stickers to complete race car liveries, terrible ai opponents, annoying non disableable interferences with the HUD etc etc.
    I just want it to finally let us choose the opponent cars in a custom race from our garage cars.
    Hardly a dramatic change, the game already pulls player garage cars to use we just need the ability to manually choose from our cars.
    So when we build a race car, we can race it against other racecars we have built as opposed to a bunch of stock cars. We should be able to race 155s v 850s and m3s we should be able to race anything we want vs anything else using the freedom of the liveries to make fantasy grids.
    And just as important FH3’s ai convoy system should be reimplemented for using with your garage cars so we don’t have to challenge drivatars to head to head which is just a mental charge to a random location between two drivers who would certainly end up dead or writing their cars off if they continued racing that way.
    These would fix the two biggest problems with the game, the ridiculously unrealistic and boring races, and the empty dull feeling free roam.
    Aside from the problems with the free roaming drivatars the basic traffic is minimal, unrealistic, repetitive and badly programmed. Convoy drivers were a huge boost to the realistic feeling of free roam.
    Being able to choose cars from your garage to accompany you, having them drive like real people, slowing for traffic and to wait for you to catch up, but then racing off giving you a challenge before bends or traffic forces everyone to slow to a more sensible speed, far more like real life where there is no desperate rush to be first 🙄 also have a button to repair all convoy vehicles like you can repair your own via photomode, also have them follow waypoints you place on the map so you can have them circle round a certain route, this would add so much replayability to the game rather than it getting boring so very rapidly as every Horizon does.
    They wouldn’t have to lure people back every week with a new car if they made it worthwhile to stay, with these tiny features that would let the players do what they actually want, who cares if the newest car is in the game if you can’t customise it then select it as an opponent to race against or convoy with.
    Forza Motorsport 7 was utterly destroyed by the lack of opponent customisation, Races were utterly ridiculous unless you selected a specific racing class like GT3, and even once selected you still couldn’t edit the grid so there was no using custom liveries to make the opponents seem fresh and new nor could you select custom cars that you have built to be the same spec as those cars.
    Why on earth would that not be a feature its blatantly obvious that its needed and is a distinctly lacking feature in the series that has been wanted for years.
    If you take a stock car and customise it into a racing car, then put a racing livery on it, it stands to reason that you then want to race it against ten similar cars, customised the same way, using the same liveries, thats real life racing, not the random trash they try call races in Forza.
    Photography would be so much better with the ability to choose cars the grids and convoys are using too, also if we had arrangeable garages like any good sandbox petrol head game should have

    Sorry if I'm wrong, but I didn't see anyone say anything yet about the fact that we still can't skip cut scenes. This not only forces us to wait to play, but also to constantly listen to the character script over, and over, and over. And I know some might say I could just get good enough at the game that I don't need a second play through or retry ever...but I don't think I'll ever be quite that good. Also, I've tried to turn off the voice over volume and the in game music volume, but both can only be turned down, and not well enough to be able to enjoy the SFX and Spotify at reasonable levels. I've found this particularly annoying when having to listen to the same song over and over again during said play throughs. I'm also tired of driving to a mission (e.g. Top Gear story, Stunt Driver story, etc.) just to end up driving to the real mission. Quite annoying when your driving doesn't count towards 3 stars while being forced to listen to NPC's talk the whole way through telling you the same thing you just heard on the first play through. Maybe I'm just being unreasonable, but I'll take a quiet loading screen and my own choices in music over Horizon radio and NPC scripts being shoved down my throat any day.

    • @dankswank9088
      @dankswank9088  2 года назад +1

      I don't think you're being unreasonable at all; having the same 3 songs awkwardly start up while waiting for an event to load is jarring at best. On that note, Horizon 3 has a similar problem with the gps. You can turn it completely off and even then the voice of the gps will chime in every half hour or so to remind you about an event that can earn you fans while setting a route to that event, necessitating that you open the map and de-select the waypoint. Honestly, it makes Preston Garvey look almost reserved! And yes; skippable cutscenes and having challenges with multiple steps allow you to skip those "go to a place" parts would be a major plus.

    On the original upload, a channel named Xcalium made a valuable contribution to the discourse surrounding the game in the comments and we feel it important to save the comment for the new upload:
    Tbh if their focus is on new cars, then they aren't doing well there either. NONE of the new Ferraris are present. NONE. That's like wtf?? That's just the most blatant example. The new Nissan Z and Toyota 86 are also missing. All the new BMWs and Audis as well. Hyundai, Kia, you name it and anything past 2019 is missing. For some brands it's ridiculous. Other than the new Supra, the "latest" Toyota on the roster is from 2013.
    I have a feeling that most of these cars will be drip-fed throughout the weeks and were deliberately left out to encourage people to return every week. Here's the thing. Forcing people to return every week if they care about the game at all shows an utter lack of confidence in the natural longevity of the game. This is the symptom of a HUGE problem in the new Horizon games. The utter lack of progression.
    If every car to be included was included at launch, then most people would stop playing after a month or two. Seriously. This is because there is utterly nothing to work towards. Within 5 minutes you'll be driving around in 2 million dollar hypercars and have 10 mil in the bank. That's just how utterly stupid the progression has gotten. It's like having a creative mode for Minecraft as the ONLY mode. Think about how many fewer players there would be if survival and hardcore modes didn't exist for that game.
    This time I decided to just roleplay progression. I'll be deleting every free car and grabbing a beater to try to truly earn anything. I'm not saying everyone should play like that but right now we're in this weird hybrid system. It's like having the progression of Horizon 1 mixing with the "everything's unlocked" mentality of games like Flight Simulator. Those two things mixing make a weird pseudoprogression that's not rewarding yet still exists.

  • @Wourghk
    @Wourghk 2 года назад +3

    Yes, Forza Horizon has replaced challenge and engaging gameplay with wait timers and daily login rewards. Right from the beginning, you're given vehicles that you can use to beat the whole story without ever needing to acquire another, which is nothing but a condescending theme park ride that unceremoniously ends once you win the last race, and there's really no reason to go around collecting the exclusive stuff except to tune and use meta cars in competitive online races. Meanwhile, the playlist challenges can be completed by anyone with a pulse and the AI is a pushover in any race even at max difficulty.
    Rather than greed, I'd say it's far more likely that Playground have recognized their inability to craft a decent single player experience and are trying to make something that functions exclusively in the multiplayer domain. They'll never do loot boxes, as was said in a stream some time ago, they're just now avoiding ridiculous pre-order exclusives (which I'm surprised you didn't mention in this video, as it happened to FH4), and all cars but a few locked behind DLC will be unlockable in-game. But there's just no single-player substance to it. Forza Horizon lives and dies "always online" in a casual space because that's all these developers are capable of doing, and making a "freeroam mode" would highlight just how empty the game is without all the multiplayer theme park noise constantly blaring at your face. They made a "battle royale" mode for crying out loud (which is now mandatory) and a race editor they advertise as a custom user-made minigame workshop, which of course is always online. Playground are just incapable of developing anything that doesn't rely on other users to fill in the gaps.

    • @dankswank9088
      @dankswank9088  2 года назад

      The Horizon games have prioritized bending over backwards to throw money and cars at players with minimal effort. Simultaneously, the withholding of certain cars behind challenges that require specific time commitments means that progression through the game is often needlessly obtuse. As a result, we have a seemingly paradoxical situation where the game poses zero challenge while simultaneously being a needlessly grindy experience that requires players to schedule their personal lives around the game in order to get everything it has to offer!

      @@mikebrown9051 Aside from the fact that these games are designed to appeal to a wide variety of different people, Forza Horizon games have an E-for-everyone rating, making them available to a larger audience than rated-M games like GTA. It's safe to say that microsoft and playground games would want to keep that rating because it means a larger potential audience, and adding a GTA storyline (with all the shooting and crime that entails) would both increase the game's rating and make the game appeal to fewer people.

  • @gnoclaude7945

    I think the Horizon games are the most fair game ever pricing wise. It's 100 bucks for all the content in the game minus maybe a couple 5 dollar car packs. Base game, car pass, and 2 big expansions for $100? Every other racer costs thousands for cars (gran turismo, iracing) and even charges for cosmetic effects (the crew).

    • @dankswank9088
      @dankswank9088  Год назад

      Other racing games have worse business models for sure, but Horizon could definitely be better than it is, especially given how intrusive it can be with constant reminders in the autoshow and loading screens of all the cars and locations you could have if you’d just pay up. That said, this is a systemic issue within the videogame industry and Forza is far from the only or worst offender.

    The ommitance of certain cars is one of my biggest gripes and your one of the only videos I've seen where you actually talk about it...and when you look at the car list its painfully obvious...
    For like the last two or three Horizon games, the BMW, Mercedes, Subaru and Ferrari store sections have been stuffed full of what seems 40 different cars. 35 of which no one will use, and can barely tell the difference between them due to their very similar visual appearance...
    Now compare that to the Mitsubishi section, who for the last three games have peddled the same two Lancer EVO's 9 and 10 and the 99 Eclipse GSX... Completely emitting the well followed 2007-2012 Eclipse body style as well as the 2002 Eclipse Spyder body style that was made famous in "2 Fast 2 Furious"...these cars are staples in car culture and Microsoft and the Horizon team would rather omit them all together to make room for a 2013 BMW M5 and a 2014 BMW M5...
    The alterior motive here is very much present and if anything shows which car companies gave the most money to Microsoft for the most representation

But for things such as time savers and other things of that nature, yeah.. it HAS TO STOP. Yeah we have option not to buy it. But it shouldn't be there in the first place. It could be argued that feeling the need to wait for a sale for the price to feel reasonable says something about just how excessive the monetization of the game is though; it used to be that the season pass had everything in it, but now there are packs and expansions deliberately left out of the game so it can be sold as an additional charge...

While there are certain cars where licensing would be very difficult for any company to secure, the Forza brand has such a large amount of goodwill with the auto industry and is so ubiquitous that most car companies are happy to provide their cars for digital recreation in these games. That’s why when cars go missing between Horizon and Motorsport it’s hard to feel like the publishers aren’t just trying to sell us the car twice. In fact, with cars like the Lamborghini Aventador J, that’s exactly what happened!

      We aren’t saying that monetization has gone to the extremes of other companies where they sell an incomplete game that’s missing content and charge the player to buy the rest of it a la 2015’s Star Wars Battlefront; more that they go out of their way to charge either far too much to get every piece of bonus content (dlc and bonuses are not included in the season pass, a dlc bundle that was originally meant to have everything in it) or to sell things that are just tacky (treasure maps)
