      In fact we never got the chance to see him in his prime. By the age of 23-24 he had faced already 2 career-ending injuries in his knees. Yes he came back winning WC, becoming top WC scorer (at the time) and then played for RM scoring more than 100goals BUT whoever saw Ronaldo before the injuries could tell he wasn't as fast and deadly and fearless anymore. Don't get me wrong he improved and perfected other aspects of his game, his passing, his finishes, his positioning but you could see that spark that fearless almost careless attitude going one-on-one against whole defenses just wasn't there anymore.

    I had my brain surgery after a serious bicycle accident. Afterward I had to gradually regain movement and speech. Funny thing was, R9 was the person I thought of regularly. I saw him being the best footballer of all time, went thru career-ending injuries but came back strong, it inspires me. Although he wasn't as fast as his prime, but he still perform on the highest level in Real Madrid. I look up to that.
    I didn't know how big of an influence Ronaldo is to me, until I had the accident. Thank you, still the greatest, always will be.

    What's even crazier is the fact that according to Ronaldo himself, after recovering from his second knee surgery (the Lazio game) he had to change the way he dribbled, basically limiting the direction in which he'll go after his characteristic around-the-ball fakes because he didn't want to stress his right knee. What this means is he was always going to the left after the fakes (you can see that in dozens of his dribbling highlights videos) in almost all the games after his Inter years - mainly in RM and Brasil. So, basically every defender knew already where he'll go after his dribbling fakes yet he was still unstoppable!

    One of the best ever. If he had a better work ethic and more luck when it came to injuries there would be no debate as who the goat is. His speed and power did put a tremendous strain on his knees, those quick changes of direction those dribbles came with a cost.

    His prime was in between 1997-2000 as at Real and 2002(although he won the World Cup) he was past the two injuries and wasn't in his prime anymore.
    Anyone who watched him could see the difference and how restricted he became with his solo runs.
    He still went for the solo runs because of his unbelievable ball control and dribbling skills but the explosive changing of directions was not there anymore...still a beast tho.

    If the defenders stand with open legs, the ball will get tunnelled between their legs. If they stand with closed legs, they end up losing balance and fell, since they cant keep up with the speed and the ZIGZAG movement. He was indeed unstoppable.

  • @jitrapornpha5104
    @jitrapornpha5104 Год назад +2

    The only way they could stop him was to destroy his knees. Seria A in the 1990’s was the toughest defence league in history. And Ronaldo made mince meat of them . Mind you the referees were not that severe on defensive players using crash tackles in the 1990’s. As much as I adore Messi, the original Ronaldo playing with today’s fairer referees would be the GOAT
