You should try a Poor Man's Downrigger method. Then there is no hand lining at all and you can use a regular fishing rod.
As usual you have the most entertaining videos on the interwebs!

just a piece of advice. always troll planers with braided line. when u use mono, the stretch of the mono causes the planer to ride up and down the water column when the mono expands and contracts and can sometimes even cause the planer to trip. i use 100lb 💪🏼. hope this helps 💯

    • @scary_scat3924
      @scary_scat3924 Год назад

Also cuts through the water easier allowing the planer to run alittle deeper. Then rig it with a bridle setup so you can reel on your entire leader/top shot on to the reel, which is the better way to do it that you were looking for.

Heiko there is a better way of hooking up your planer so you don't have to handline. I live in the North when I go up to Lake Erie fishing and I use planers we use two rods one for the planer and one to reel up the fish, you need a
"Release Clip" to put on the back of the planer so that way when the fish hits, it releases from the Planer and now you're fighting with your rod and reel. Just a thought. Love the vid hey did you like the 🌈 Runner Sashimi ?

There is a better way to troll with planers! You have to cut off the ends of the snap hooks! You then put them inline with the planer. Then while realing in them you just take the planer out and keep realing in the fish! There are several videos on it! No hand lining!!! Love your videos!

Some planar fishing tips if your going to planar fish...
1)You dont planar fish with mono
2)You dont have a weighted skirt under your sea witch
3)why are you using a straight j hook? ever heard of limerick hooks that have a swivel at the tip? double j hooks?
    4)copper wire??
5)you dont use a frozen hunk of old bonita to make your strips / and your strips are far to big with to much meat on them.
    6) put your far planar further back...and your short planar closer...
7)when you handline fish let the line feed back into the water...

We use to use planers but they where a pain. We invested in two cannon down riggers, so much better and you can control the depth. They are the best invention since toilet paper.

Those planers look like what are called jet divers or even a simpler version of what we use up in the great lakes called dipsy divers. Our planers are used to pull away from the boat and skim on top of the water to fan things out.

Let the planers down with a light-moderate drag to keep tension on them. A great lakes trolling trick. Sometimes you get hit on the way down. Then you can target that depth. It's probably different in the ocean without a thermocline.

Tie a bimini twist from your main line onto your swivel! it wil be way stronger compared to your straight connection onto your swivel! you may need to extra strength when are getting close to the fish and may need to leader it!

These fishing vids are educational I’m getting a fishing boat next year just deciding which coast to dock it Yorkshire(East) or Lancs/Cumbria(West) as I live right in the centre of UK.

Final update: this little reel is the little engine that could ruclips.net/user/postUgkxSlytCJqozTF7EbdP4LWP-HUXf9WRDJ0e . It performed flawlessly and was easy to adjust drag in the moment while I was battling a 35lb bat ray behemoth. Mind you, this reel is spooled with only 25 lb braid and 25 mono topshot. It's paired with the kastking telescopic heavy power rod and the two work well together. This has now earned my respect and confidence when traveling and fishing. If you have ever hooked into large rays and sharks, you know they pull extremely hard and can run forever! This thing clamped down on the fish and was easy to adjust during the fight. It has a nice decently fast retrieve as well. Twice the fish went on mad runs and I was able to gain back line quickly to avoid spooling.
