Speyer July 2021

Speyer is a city in Rhineland-Palatinate in Germany with approximately 50,000 inhabitants. The city was the hometown of one of the most important Jewish communities in Middle Ages in northern Europe.
I visited the mikwe. The Jewish ritual bath from the 12th century is the oldest facility of its kind in central Europe. It is simply a reflection of Jewish history in Germany. Shortly after my visit the mikwe and the surrounding rmainings were declared as UNESCO world heritage site.
The Speyer cathedral is already since 1982 designated as UNESCO world heritage site.
