  • I finally got to visit the Mall of America's Nickelodeon Universe this past summer, a park I would consider America's best indoor park. This was my experience on Sunday, July 11th, 2021.

Couple of thoughts on this park.
Pepsi Orange Streak is one of the most absurd coaster names in the world.
The ride collection is pretty good for an indoor park.
To me, it's not worth a visit on its own. But the MOA is worth a visit so the trip is justified. The aquarium under Nickelodeon Universe is surprisingly good, especially for being in the basement. And the shops can be pretty fun. You could spend 2-3 hours at the park but you could spend all day if you include the other attractions.
The Log Ride is one of the best. It's kind of weird that an indoor log flume has a great view but it really does.

The ride ops usually have stickers to attach the ends of the wristbands, you might just have to ask them to do it since not everyone wants to have the band attached to them if they want to share. Also the reason they were able to fit fairly odd coaster into the park was because they layout was designed for the park, and then was cloned for other parks.

I was there this past weekend and it was fairly packed, and there were some people that had their wristbands on their wrists but there was still no sticky stuff on ours. They say on the back that the ride op at your first ride will put the wristband on you but I guess you have to ask for it because we went on 4 rides without anyone putting it on us. After the 4th ride we were feeling nauseous so we went and walked around some, and either on the 4th ride or sometime later I lost mine. I didn't have a great time there, as you might be able to infer.

I grew up a 30 minute drive from the mall, so Camp Snoopy was my original, tiny child theme park. Pepsi Ripsaw was my first roller coaster ever, and I have to say it's an amazing introduction for a child who's initially very afraid of roller coasters. Its' slow speed and smooth, scenic run is amazing.
I definitely miss the old theming, but I'm glad that the rides are still holding up after all this time!! the only one I've ridden since re-theming is the log chute because it rethemed when I was a middle schooler and I was stubborn xD

I've been coming to this park since it was Knott's Camp Snoopy. Before Valleyfair added some new additions in the 2010s, I actually liked this park more and it's easily my favorite indoor park to this day after 20 plus years.
It's too bad that you didn't take some time to try their other rides because you would've loved the Log Chute and Ghostblasters.

@@AirtimeThrills It's definitely worth spending a day and treating the park as a part of the overall attraction that is the mall. Having the wristband and intermittently riding rides in between doing everything else in the mall makes the value feel even better instead of having to do all the rides in one swoop. Also makes re-rides feel more special too when they are broken up by a trip to the aquarium for example. Also above all you have to ride the log flume next time. It's the best traditional log flume in the world.

Loved this park back in the Camp Snoopy days. Haven't been able to go back since the name change, as I moved to a different part of the country quite awhile ago. My favorite ride back in the day was the virtual roller coaster set-up they had in a separate room. I mean, yeah it was just a bunch of tilting chairs and blowers set-up in front of an iMax, but it was pretty convincing back in the day. I haven't heard anything about that in the longest time though, so I suspect it isn't there anymore.
And yeah, the Ripsaw wasn't intense, but it was a fun coaster, especially for first timers. I wasn't nearly as accustomed with roller coasters at the time, so I was far more comfortable riding that than the Wild Thing at Valley Fair.

Grew up in MN so I knew Camp Snoopy, The Park at MOA, and now Nickelodeon Universe! Agree with your opinions. Rock Bottom is #1 and you get a nice pop of ejector on the drop. Same with the small hill after the loop. As a native Minnesotan I’ve gone many times on any random Monday or Tuesday when it’s EMPTY and you can marathon these rides dozens of times! Also special shout-out to the drop following the final mid course on Fairly Odd.
Log ride has been closed (or only operating on some days?) every time I’ve gone, but it might be tied as my number one with RBP.

As a Minnesotan who has been to MoA (and Nickelodeon Universe) many times, there's a bit more to it than just the indoor theme park. The mall itself is worth spending a few hours exploring, its 3 levels high and has tons of shops, 2 full food courts, many full restaurants, an aquarium, and even a cinema.
The reason you were able to walk into the mall and straight into the park is because the mall is build in a circle around the park, so pretty much any entrance is close to the park.
The park itself might not be great for adults, but that's not really what its for. The cartoon theming and somewhat gentler rides makes it ideal for children. It help keeps them occupied while adults can do some shopping.

It would be good to know countries you need a visa and which are hardest to obtain a visa.

I always thought Rock Bottom Plunge was like 100 ish feet tall until I checked RCDB, and was shocked when I saw its actual height, to say the least. I think they have advantages and Disadvantages that even each other out, but I think the mall of America is just a tiny bit better just simply because of the atmosphere of the park. It’s outdoorsy feel and just a sense of imagination, and sometimes I forget that even in a mall. And even though New Jersey might have better coasters, it kinda feels like a theme park just got slapped in the middle of a warehouse, outside of a few windows on the ceiling, and let me emphasize that, A FEW!

As many have noted, the Log Flume is can't miss (when it's open).
It and Pepsi Orange Streak are good examples of the impact that Knott's had on the park. As noted, Pepsi Orange Streak is *very* similar to Jaguar! and I would be very unsurprised if the Knott family made some sort of package deal when ordering them. The Log Flume feels like the spiritual brother to Timber Mountain Log Ride, with some very similar logger animatronics and just the vibe of a Flume that's about more than hills and splashes.
Basically, there's a lot about old Knott's Camp Snoopy at MOA that feels like Knott's Berry Farm of the 80s-90s and you can even see hints of that today even after the drastic changes that were made.
I think that also contributes to why the park is more pleasant than its NJ cousin. If you look at those views into the park, you'll see a lot of greenery, much of which was planted when they were giving it this outdoors camp theme.

    • @ryanvanasse
      @ryanvanasse 2 года назад +2

Other note: I saw someone else mention it on here, but Timberland Twister predated Spinning Dragons AND all of the Pandemoniums. My understanding is that it was designed to fit into this park rather than fitting a generic clone into this space.

The wristbands can be attached together at the ticket scanner booth. It may appear that when you went the mall was during the time of the pandemic where they didn’t have extended contact with one-another. Fairly-odd coaster was the original Gerstlauer spinning coaster. It is sad that you didn’t get the fullest experience at the park. I for one would like to see an indoor wooden coaster; a twister layout (like Twister at Knoebel's) or a compact double out & back (like Phoenix at Knoebel's) could work provided you have enough space and creativity.
That said, I don't think we'll see any indoor hypercoasters!

I moved here from the east coast where my home park was Coney Island and Great Adventure was so close to me and Hershey was 3 hours away and Dorney was 2.5 hours away. I mean yes SpongeBob SquarePants is great and Valley fair is close with some other coasters but compared to my line up on the east coast I think I took a lose on the coaster line! But I do get bad vertigo now! So I can’t ride the coasters like I used to!

I think the park at American Dream changed it's policy because when I was there a few weeks ago we were able to buy tickets instead of an all day pass.

Still not sure I can accept those Intamin halfpipes as rollercoasters. They're basically wonky Zamperla Disk'Os, and those are pretty unambiguously flat rides.

It seems like a fun park, just nowhere near the top of my list for places I have to visit. I'm surprised that neither one of these parks has an S&S El Loco. Seems like the perfect coaster for an indoor park. Just like at Adventure Dome.

@@AirtimeThrills ALL the malls are dying. All the anchor tenants are going bankrupt. Online same day delivery is killing a lot of retail and technology is killing the rest. Over 3 million dollars worth of goods and services that we used to go to the mall for are now redundant in our societies because of that simple phrase, "There's an app for that"

@@davefroman4700 MoA is not gonna die. It's a tourist attraction first, mall second. Plus it seems like the indoor malls have been somewhat more successful here in MN where it's freezing half the year. A decent number of our regular malls are still open (rosedale, southdale, ridgedale, etc).
