  • Hey, everyone! Welcome to the premiere episode of Dead & Gone, the series where I explore the economics and behind the scenes of various defunct businesses throughout the US!

Editors note: I'm not 100% happy with some aspects of the video, ESPECIALLY the audio. Sound is something I've always struggled with, especially recording it. It's something I'll continue to learn though, and I hope the quality doesn't hinder your viewing experience.
I also attempted to report as accurately as I could, but I'm sure there are some inaccurate statements made, so apologies in advance for that.
Any feedback and constructive criticism is welcomed, thanks!
    Thanks for watching!

I'm 27 and miss Camp Snoopy so much. It was my childhood and I remember when it all came to an end. Nickelodeon Universe doesn't have the warm feeling that Camp Snoopy had.

My god, what a nostalgia trip. Camp Snoopy was a HUGE part of my childhood, I still was young when Camp Snoopy was gone in 06 and still called it Camp Snoopy even though it was The Park of MOA. Today, my 22 year old grown ass still goes on the rides at Nickelodeon Universe but it's not the same as it used to be when it was Camp Snoopy.

I was born in February, 2001 so I vividly remember bits and pieces of Camp Snoopy. I remember my mom would bring me there sometimes with a family friend or so. I even had one of my younger birthdays there too. At the Rainforest Cafe. I remember not feeling well and not eating the cherry I got on my sunday. Even if my memories of Camp Snoopy are vivid and not much, I am still sad that they changed it to Nickelodeon Universe.

I'm 1987 so I got to spend a lot of time in camp snoopy.
It was cool to be able to walk around an amusement park without having to pay to get in.
      Nickelodeon universe feels less grounded.

Slight correction, Cedar Fair purchased Knott’s (and operations pertaining to both parks) in 1997. When the park first opened in 1992, it was entirely operated by Knott’s, hence why it was called “Knott’s Camp Snoopy” and not just Camp Snoopy. This is how Cedar Fair obtained the Peanuts rights, and was ultimately the reason they were able to add the Planet Snoopy areas to their parks, such as Cedar Point, Kings Island and Dominion, Valleyfair, and others. Still a great mini-documentary though!

Went to Mall of America last week and although I mostly grew up with memories of Nickelodeon Universe, what I really miss is the American Girl doll store being on the edge of the park and visible from all the tall rides. 😢 It really added to the “it’s not a mall, it’s an experience” vibe with the doll hair salon and restaurant with doll tables. 😊❤

Awesome job on this video! The original pictures and footage brought back some great memories. I remember my first visit on the 2nd day it was in operation back in August 1992 and it was magical. My kids are now 6 and 4 and while we enjoy visiting the park together I know they would have loved the Peanuts theme. In fact we still refer to it as Camp Snoopy quite often. Camp Snoopy was great I remember going there as a child and one of the times watching a snoopy show his ear fell off as they danced to Larger Than Life by The Backstreet Boys and that is when my sister fell in love with Snoopy. Camp Snoopy was a fantastic place that is surely missed and who remembers cereal adventure at MOA? That was another fantastic thing part of my childhood. I remember that they had a tube that would go around the entire park or mall filled with cereal and a playground type thing themed to cereal. It was awesome. I went to Nickelodeon Universe in 2010 and 2011 and I still enjoyed myself and loved it. The rides didn't change much just the theme. But what truly matters is people are still able to enjoy themselves. I can see why they did change the theme Nickelodeon is more popular now.

When MOA and Camp Snoopy opened in 92, the Peanuts characters had been dead for years. Nickelodeon had been around for a while at that point and Rugrats, Ren and Stimpy, and Doug all came out a year prior. No one gave a shit that the Peanuts were old, they still loved the rides. those characters were timeless.

One of my favorite things about working at camp Snoopy was that we had two crews and one crew was the seasonal college crew that was there for the summer and the other crew was a college crew that was there year around. For example around Christmas the crew that was there year-round could go home to be with family while the seasonal crew came back for the holidays and worked for a few weeks or even a few days. They updated our schedules every semester and were super flexible for college students. We had fun employee parties. They had opportunities to earn Cedar point tickets. They gave us a lot of tickets to valley Fair. Definitely a great place to work well in college

I'm working on a project in college about the Mall of America, and needed some camp snoopy nostalgia. The bus was my favorite thing as a kid, I always wanted to ride the axe, but never did. The snoopy bowl was one of my favorites. I loved how big it was it was so funny to me for some reason. The feeling when the park was under construction after the Nick rebranding was such a crazy vibe. Seeing all these empty lots as they were being built was thrilling to me.

Great video man, even though it's sad. I remember growing up in the 90s and when I visited my family members in Minneapolis often, we would go to MOA and do Camp Snoopy all the time. I would do everything there while wearing my Woodstock wristband to go on rides unlimited times. When I was back in summer of 06 when I was 15, that's when I really got sad. I remember when the Knotts name was removed and only Camp Snoopy name was left. As much as i liked Nickelodeon in my teens, I still want Camp Snoopy. But luckily there are the 3 original rides still that haven't changed; the log ride, the ghost hunting ride, and the Pepsi roller coaster. I'll never forget the memories.

This was actually a good maerketing strategy, and all those boomers that are crying about it need to see it that way. Rebranding it to Nickelodeon was even better, since that company has WAY MORE things that pretty much everyone remembered as kids. Such as Ben 10, Spongebob, Dora The Explorer, and more. I think it was a good idea, since you can't do much with Charlie Brown..........

I got an idea for the 3rd episode, though this may not come true it’s the
“Tales of the Okefenokee” dark ride at six flags over Georgia form 1967 to 1980
    If you could do that.
