- This is a tour of a $30 NYC minimalist hotel (capsule like) in Lower Manhattan (Chinatown). I hope this video shows you guys that living cheap in NYC is possible! The tiny hotel / capsule / pods are 25 square feet (2.3sqm), which is very similar to Tokyo capsule hotels, but for me it turned out to be quite spacious. I never got claustrophobic, but in enclosed spaces everyones opinion varies. I also found this hotel / apartment tour so cool because I have only seen Tiny Hotel / capsule hotel tours in Japan! insta: iamlivingbobby

i went like 5 years ago to the international hostel in Manhattan actually better located then this because more the the north and it was a lot more spacious for like 40$ a night

I went there for 3 days, stayed there for 2 nights, chinatown location is great, this hotel is just a place to sleep some hours and shower, went to empire state building, central park, Brooklyn bridge, rode the subways all under $500
I went to vegas for the same amout of time bought stuff did fun things and spent less than you

I lived in Los Angeles in 1958 to 1960 at 416 S Spring Street, which was then the El Dorado Hotel, for $45 per month. $1.50 per day. It is now a loft building.with spaces for about $500 K. Charlie Chaplin once lived there. I lived in New York City in 1960 and 1961 for about $50 per month, YMCA.

As someone who has stayed in a ton of hostels, this actually isn’t that bad. A hostel bed is usually around $30 a night. This place is the same cost but you get your own room and don’t have to share with 3-5 other people.

Come on it's a $30 per night hotel in a city where a cheap "decent" hotel is $200+ most of the time. And I guess at least your have your own room so to speak, it's not like paying $30 and having to share a room with 6-8 other people (ie. a hostel).

This is an awesome hotel. It gives you what you need: a bed to sleep on. It's like a public phone: serves only one purpose. If I was stranded in NY for 3 days, this hotel would provide me bed and shelter for less than $100 for the entire stay. That's just 8 hours per day. The rest of the hours can be spent outside, in restaurants, in a café, at the gym, in a library, in a museum, in a park or in a shopping mall. Everything you can do inside your home or hotel room, you can also do outside, except sleeping, cooking and f*cking.

Anyone who stays there should be smart enough to understand that there is a small safety trade off in exchange for an extremely low price. We make these kinds of decisions every day. Honestly, if you're wanting to visit New York you're not going to want to stay inside. You'll want to be experiencing the city and just need a place to sleep and shower. $30 cannot be beat. I think it's amazing. Great video. :)

I think it's wonderful for a short stay. You only go to your hotel to sleep, change clothes, or freshen up. Why waste money on a room that you're rarely using.

dude this literally brings back memories of the hostels in australia,same decor,same houses that look like they are 50 to 100 years old.......and the toilets in australia hostels are even worse......u are lucky to get that private room for $20.....in aussie we have to share a bunk bed with 7 other strangers for $27 a night and a private room like that would cost up to $50.

Beyond the concept of not being allowed to leave, is the cost of bail. We can suspend the rest of reality, but those 2 are foundational.
There are other options, hostels, craigslist shares, friends of friends, subway/stations/airport/hospitals/'camping'...gym pass to shower.
Not to mention if you're there with a enclosed vehicle.

you're right for $30 dollars a day. I stayed in a great place in Brooklyn which was 2 mins from the subway. So the location was calm. I would never subject myself to that living conditions.
A guy in another video stayed at this place and ended up with bed bug bites. He thought it was clean and gave it a good review at first. How do you avoid stuff like that, or head lice, or something worse? Doesn't that concern you?
Melissa0774 Wear a hoodie with the hood up to protect your head from lice. Make sure you have pants on and long socks so your legs and feet are covered. For full coverage, you can put on a ski mask and wear gloves to sleep. That way you are guaranteeing full body protection. Or you could just spend a little extra money on a reliable hotel, lol

That's actually a great deal. $210 a week in NYC. You'll have to take your belongings with you and there's no guarantee that you'll get a room for the next night but it's an option if you're homeless. Don't listen to the negative comments.
