I really appreciate your mentioning of hibiscus lowering your blood pressure! My husband has congenital heart disease and we got dried hibiscus flowers that were like candied or something... he ate too many and it made him light headed and his chest hurt! We didn't know at the time that the flowers would do that!
Cool! I live in Santa Fe and last week bought a pkg of dried hibiscus at the Mexican Market and was wondering what I was going to do with it. And HERE you Are! Thank You. :)
Most important thing you said in the List 100 lbs vid was the push-ups & pull-ups, yoga keeps us limber & young, but building / maintaining muscle from weightlifting keeps off the fat & keeps you strong to thrive into old age
I used to get hibiscus flower enchiladas from a little hole-in-the-wall Mexican place near me, and they were delectable. I tried making them myself a few years later and the kitchen ended up looking like a crime scene from the juices spattering everywhere, ha! You seem to have been neater in your prep . . . I'll give this a go when I've stocked up on surface cleaners. 🙂 Thanks for posting!
I was born in Mexico hibiscus or “Jamaica” as we call it, is a staple in our cuisine. I grew up eating and drinking this. Hibiscus water is my absolute favorite drink ever. I like to put sugar when I’m simmer it so it dissolves faster and chill it with ice. My only advice is to wash the hibiscus water with super cold water because any warmth makes the dye or tea come out of the flower. I would also use a bigger pot of water for that quantify of Jamaica to get as much of the juice or tea out. I usually simmer it twice (without rinsing in between simmers) with new water and that does the trick. Rinsing the Jamaica after simmering wastes so much of the tea since a little goes a long way. Just my 2¢
Ohhh it's so good!!! It comes out really concentrated, so you can sweeten it, add a bit to cold water and enjoy, or just leave it as is! It's really good!!
As I have moved more plant based (still eat meat but much less) I have found dishes that I like dishes that are originally Vegan/veg rather than trying to find meat alternatives. Have you ever thought of doing more of these kind of videos?
Ahh…Mark ~ I love that you are doing another Hibiscus recipe! I will be making this soon and can’t wait - @ViewsontheRoad has the first recipe I ever found using Hibiscus (Jamaica) flowers for her Birria - between the use of the Hibiscus (Jamaica) flowers and her chili oil recipe, the flavors are incredible and one of those recipes I have made again and again. Now I get to add yours to my favs!
This is a question for Noom if they're watching. Seems like a 14 day free trial is too short to see results. Doesn't it take a month + to start seeing weight loss results? This question is more for potential customers that aren't Sauce Stache subscribers, cause he's a walking testimony.
As a someone whose doing her own weight loss by just tracking what I eat calorically, if you've found your needed calorie intake, then eat 500 calories below that and exercise 30 min at least 3-5 times a week, you'll lose 1/2 to 1 lb each week. So in 14 days you should see a 1 to 2 lb loss. This is a healthy pace even though it seems like very little. Honestly, I don't think Noom is worth the money. I'm 20lbs down just using My Fitness Pal for tracking (the free version) and Verywell Fit for low-cal recipe inspiration.
@@andrewwashere82 One way would just be to weigh yourself consistently day to day while tracking your calories and basically derive the information based on if you gain, lose, or maintain on average
You could totally do a pimento cheese with the tofu! I just take tofu and blend with the seasoning plus some chopped pimentos and hot sauce. It would lean in a BBQ pork sandwich with pimento cheese, one of my favorite things to make (usually with jackfruit, but I'll try with hibiscus next!).
Glad you put the warning. All the soaking/rinsing/draining likely leached out most of the BP lowering compounds but sensitive individuals may want to be cautious, particularly if they drink the extract as a tea. It's not just folks with low BP but those on medication for high BP. It can also interact with other drugs.
Probably have a good taste, for the people that have period issues ( hibiscus often cause extra pain and extra blood flow and cramps ), so idk which quantity should be recommended to eat... 🌺
What would you say about adding some Marmite or something else to add more beef like or metalic taste? Also maybe ad a slaw on the sandwich if you don't have the tofu/cheese?
I have to agree on hibiscus being meaty in texture. I made homemade hibiscus tea before and tried the leaves just out of curiosity. They have like? (Been awhile) maybe a cross between shellfish texture and maybe ground meat? 🤔
Could this be done with tiger lily flowers? I grow those for their buds, which are used in Asian cuisine. I also grow hibiscus, but I don't quite have as many of those.
I was thinking where did I see someone use hibiskus as a meat replacement and it might have actually been you years ago! I've also seen Gaz Oakley test some traditional hibiskus tacos while in Mexico! It is such an interesting flower in terms of texture (and taste too, amazing as tea ;P) and I might actually give this a go because I bought way too much a few year back when I was ona hibiskus tea kick!
Don't toss the water from the hibiscus flowers it has tons of properties. It can be sweeten then pour over ice and you will have a very refreshing drink.
I had no idea. Might be more prevalent in tropical areas than the far frozen north. I missed the hibiscus taco video. Watching it next. *Link to the hibiscus flowers please!?**
Hibiscus tea is also super bad for people with acid reflux. I don't know about cooked all the way through hibiscus, but even then you'll have to trow away all the tea part, which is wasteful IMO.
As a Normal eater. Keep making videos this. I mean I know that you always do this thing for a long time. But Just keep make it. I really love to see you prove to the world that vegan or plant based dish can be so delicious as your imagination. And it can eat. Why not?
Isn’t eating this much whole hibiscus dangerous due to the high manganese content? I’m asking cuz now that I know this is possible I want to eat it every week lol
I will never understand why veggies call plants "meat" in any context. A better compliment to any "pulled pork sandwich" would be some coleslaw... but your body needs protein so I understand why you did that.

Love the creativity--never thought to make faux pulled pork from hibiscus!
I love hibiscus queso tacos. This looks good!
Try making birria with the flowers after making water, you cannot tell the difference they are so good 🤤
looks great!
Monica is so lucky for having someone make such a variety of vegan dishes for her to try!

I wouldn’t have thought to ever use hibiscus, which I already love as tea. Great idea on the spritzers too.
You can store the water, it's quite delicious. In Colombia, but I'm pretty sure it's a mexican recipe, you can soak them to get the flavored water.
