Richard Petty's 200 NASCAR wins will never be bettered, but no one will ever come close to Pearson's 105 wins either. He had the most exciting Daytona win ever in 1976 with the Wood Brothers. Nothing will ever top that.
6 full seasons??? 64, 3rd in points missing a few races, 66, 68 & 69. Three out Four(ish) ain't bad. Imagine running for it with the Woods in the 70s. Petty would be a little short of 200, and a Championship or two less. That has to be fact. Pearson's overall stats would be better if he didn't make so many starts in "sub-par" equipment compared to Petty Engineering.
What happened between him learned wood was I think it was Darlington SC he came in to pit and one of the two made a mistake and he took off and the tire wasnt screwed on and the tire came off and sports writers it was enbarressing and but he was and the tail end of his career

Leonard Wood didn't inform Pearson they were changing four, so when they dropped the jack he left pit row. I believe it was the last race of that season. I believe both Woods Bros racing and David (but for sure David from interviews I've seen on the incident) said Purolator were wanting a younger rising star to drive the 21. Neil Bonnet drove the 21 the next season.
RIP Mr. Pearson! You were one hell of a man! I'm proud to own one of those die-casts you hold in your hand! Thank you for all your wonderful stories.
RIP David Pearson. Good to see some interviews still exist

The silver Fox was the best of the best !
the best period
Thank you for sharing. Really great stuff.
The Talladega and the Spoiler-II with the Boss 429 under the hood was a lethal combination. The Chrysler wing cars put an end to their dominance.
Much respect.
Voted as......... Driver of the Century
The silver fox was the best and the best ever will be!
He only had 500 maybe a little more starts and 105 petty had stop but he only raced 6 full seasons 3 championship
