spectrumlocalb191 No television programme dates well really because some people and some things of the world are always evolving. The fashions and pop culture are always going to be there in any television era and film era, whether the programme makers and movie makers wanted them to be there or not. 😃
Maggie Kirkpatrick's acting chops are of the highest order, she plays the vulnerable, loving side of Joan with as much authority as the evil, and sadistic side of that character, Joan is isn't a 2-dimensional villain, she has depth, and Maggie plays her to perfection. It's a testament to her that I'm able to have empathy and compassion for Joan in her most vulnerable moments, yet despise the darker side of her character. Love Maggie!
She hasn't donned the black gloves in ages. I prefer the evil Joan. This fairy godmother act is just that. An act. She's been beyond redemption for years - as will become evident as time moves on.
Good to see Reb land Marie one after what she put her through a few episodes back. Marie then responding by punching thin air was funny too, she is not so tough without her heavies to back her up. Every credit to Heather, she seems to be getting a grip on the job now. Evidently her confidence was lifted enormously after the positive impact she made in the riot.
38:51 I love this scene. Marie's dialog is wonderful as always, particularly " I tried to do a somersault..." had me stitches. But mostly because it's another step on Reb's road to redemption, which is one of my very favorite Prisoner story strands. As much as Marie is my fave character ever, I can see how the show might not work with her in it permanently - she's just too strong of a character. Her one-liners, her laugh, her accent, the way she carries herself - what a GREAT character/actor.
+endrightwinglunacy I agree. The place doesn't seem big enough for Marie and Myra without something giving way. I always enjoy Marie's scenes, Maggie Miller plays the part very convincingly.
This is one of the very few times I've had respect for Reb. Watching her punch the shyt out of Marie and then going to the governor to tell her it was really Marie who pushed her down the stairs is satisfying.
@pauldoherty7297 Especially when all she did was sit on her ass and bark orders at everyone else at Barnhurst. And frankly, if Judy with her clockwork ticker can beat the hell out of her without getting her lard butt wedged between the kitchen appliances, Mari could float around the world without a balloon because she's so full of hot air and not much else!
The storyline involving the character of Edna Pearson was heavily censcored in the original broadcasts, due to a crime of a similar nature committed by a woman named Emily Perry living in Adelaide, Australia. She claimed that the storyline was based on her life, and so the character of Edna Pearson was edited out as much as possible.
Cruikshank sholud tell them that as a 'pom' hje and one of the inmates that they could both be related decendents of a british transportee from the prison hulks that landed there. Just think, The frealk and Bea Smith cold be decendents of one of them..
Winter was a brilliant addition to this era after Bea Smith. Both Winter and Gaffney were superb villains, always stirring things up. Oh, but I do wish I had an Aunty Joan!
Wow... I loathe Joan Ferguson but dang if Maggie Kirkpatrick isn’t a great actress especially in emotional scenes like the ending scene between Auntie Joan and Shane. Respect. Nice to see Reb take Marie down a few notches.
I love megs conversation with heather about how bad things can be when u get involved with a fellow officer/person connected to the prison considering ALL of her relationships have been connected to the prison 🤦
Good on Reb for saying "sod it" to the ridiculous unwritten "No-Lagging or else" rule. I suppose it now puts Myra in an invidious ethical position, though. On the one hand she'll benefit from Winter being done for Reb's assault but on the other hand, can the top dog be seen to condone "lagging"? A tough moral dilemma for Myra. She can't win whatever her reaction is.
Love how Heather's mum comments to Dennis about how Blighty is such a small country. Being an expat Pommy, I've certainly noticed it since I moved downunder. The terraced houses back home seem tiny compared to the average Aussie house lol.

If Erica's head of the department, why the hell couldn't she have had anything to do with Ann's reinstatement? Does she have to tread lightly despite being the top boss of the department? Or do I not get her position? Erica didn't like the freak anymore than everyone else so it doesn't make sense that she would allow the freak to become governor.

It was just a "twinge"... passed quickly enough. 27:20 It's hard to believe that Winters has connections on the outside that feed her information about the private lives of guards. I'm seen some split personalities at least in the movies and on TV but Joan Takes the Cake .how can she be so loving and concerned with Shane and so unbelievably cruel with the women? just doesn't add up just because her love was killed by the prisoners in another Detention Center she would take it out on everyone.
Let's face it, a lot of the storylines in Prisoner are absolutely ridiculous. It's bordering on comedy at times, it's so ridiculous. It's part of its charm. You can often laugh at how far fetched it is.
The scene when Reb played by Janet Andrewartha is told her father died is a true testament to her acting , truly talented
Awww, how good is that scene at the drain between Joan and Shane? Maggie Kirkpatrick nearly had me in tears, such a great actress.
