As a Seahawks fan, you really should hope he does not do that. Until the hawks drafted Smith-Njigba, the screen game was a nightmare.
So here's what it came down to for us: His opening script - awesome. Crunch time, game on the line, not overthinking things - very good. In between, not so good. He designs good plays, but once his script runs out he kinda loses the plot. That said, I was hoping we'd keep him so we could see just exactly how much of that was him, and how much was Carroll in his ear.

“The next Mahomes”, except everything that defines Mahomes is not something you can show in college. You see tons of guys look incredible in college, but until you see them throwing with 6’5” guys bearing down on them into Razer thin windows, we have no idea. We miss on QB prospects because the pocket presence is the most important trait, and there is no way to simulate that with Amateurs in college

He probably regrets being chosen by the Bears as will any other "Star QB"... The Bears don't have a F%#*ing Clue what they're doing... Look at all of the other teams in the Central Division... Nagy did not get the gig in Chicago because of his association with Mahomes. Nagy’s first year in Chicago was 2018. Mahomes didn’t play in 2017. So maybe you can say it was his association with Alex Smith???

    • @alexkrause1338

That’s not correct. Nagy was on the Chiefs when Mahomes was drafted and it was Nagy that convinced Andy Reid to bring on Mahomes when they already had Alex Smith.. then Nagy came to Chicago and took the bears to the playoffs 2-3 years with a QB that he never drafted (Trubisky) then added Justin Fields before the new regime of Coaches came in.

I keep hearing everyone talk about resetting the QB contract clock. I think the fallacy with this thinking is that the Bears could trade the #1 pick for several picks, both this draft and potential future first round picks. If they can do that they can turn one pick into several high picks over the next couple of years that could turn into 2-4 foundational team pieces, all on rookie contracts. That resets the rookie contracts on several positions and builds a strong team, so that if sticking with Fields through his 5th year option doesn't work out well, they can go after a young QB prospect and have a strong, young team to surround a young QB who can grow into a leader at the position. Resetting the QB contract clock doesn't do much, if the new QB comes into a team that has a lack of strong supporting pieces on offense.

    • @TheMattTrakker
      @TheMattTrakker 7 месяцев назад

You don't get the chance to draft #1 overall every year. This idea that they can just go after who they want if it doesn't work out with Fields is just cope from JF fanboys.
They're going to trade him and reset the qb clock because you can fill a lot of positions with the 40-50m+ you have to pay a qb.

    • @holdwhatdoor7629
      @holdwhatdoor7629 6 месяцев назад

Kc traded up from 27 to 10 overall in 2017 to get Mahomes. The bears can get several future first rounders and more by trading the #1 overall, and they will only need to pay $29 million total to Fields over the 2024 and 2025 season if they pick up his 5th year option. They have two first rounders in this year's draft, plus whatever extra capital they would get from trading the #1 back (first round swap this year plus 2025 and 2026 firsts and more). They can get several pieces early this draft, from WR to OLine and still have picks to spare in this draft and future from trading back. They save money on contracts with more picks and still have draft capital to move around in 2025/2026 draft if Fields still can make the leap to elite in the next 2 years. Or they can gamble on a #1 who could bust like Bryce Young, or any number of #1 overall picks. It's not just about Justin Fields, it's about how much of a team you can put together. QB can be found later in the draft. Aaron Rodgers was picked 32 overall, same with Lamar Jackson. Drew Brees second round pick, Tom Brady 6th round, Brock Purdy was last pick of the draft. Brett Favre second round pick. Joe Montana 3rd round pick. A significant portion of the greatest QBs all time were picked outside the first round or at the end of the first round of the draft. Football is a team sport first and foremost.

I don’t think there’s any way at all that Fields & Caleb can coexist on this Bears team. Not they they would cause issues with each other, but because the media insanity would be too distracting. But I think drafting Bo Nix or Michael Penix Jr in the mid-to-late 1st round, or even JJ McCarthy in the 2nd round, could be an interesting strategy. @@Voysh2Voysh69 you dont need to draft a QB if you stick with Fields. You can use that to get a pro-bowl pass rusher or tackle instead. Then if it doesn’t work out, you have 2 first rounders the next year to get a QB. But still get to keep the rookie all pro pass rusher or tackle. Im trading with patriots and getting their #3, 2024 second round and a 2025 first round. Normally they wouldn’t give up that much but its for Caleb. And that 2024 second rounder is a very high one. I feel like this weekend showed how important a great Oline is. If you watched Goff, he had a relatively clean pocket, and would go down if he was tapped. But if you watch Mayfield, he had to shake off three defenders, just to get hit by a fourth defender. And all the talk is about how Goff "Outplayed" Mayfield.
Then you watch Green Bays oline, Love looks like a hero, because he had "all day" and his receivers were often WIDE open against SF an GB. It was a miracle that the 49ers came back. The Browns missed with Tim Couch and Courtney Brown in back-to-back years to restart their franchise, yes. David Carr and Sam Bradford were not the franchise saviors they were billed as being, yes. But all of them at least had a couple moments in the sun, some highlights you could point to. Bradford was derailed by injuries; Carr, Couch and Brown from poorly-managed expansion teams. In the past quarter-century, there has only been one truly disastrous, irredeemable, no-mitigating-factors bust with the top pick, and that’s JaMarcus Russell.
Russell’s measurables were exceptional. At 6’6” with a canon for an arm, the scouts were battling each other to try and find the right superlative. Todd McShay called Russell’s Pro Day the best he had ever been to. Mike Mayock said he had never seen a college quarterback with more ability. Mel Kiper compared him to John Elway. Scouts Inc gave him a 98 in their final pre-draft player ratings; the only quarterback to score higher since was Andrew Luck. A true generational talent.
That’s not to say there were no warning signs, mind you. It was unclear, to some, if Russell was better than Matt Flynn at LSU, with Flynn impressing every time he got a chance to play. Matt Millen called Russell a “stiff” who “couldn’t pay attention for more than five minutes” after observing Russell constantly checking his watch during a pre-draft meeting. Lane Kiffin absolutely did not want to draft him - which was a problem, because Lane Kiffin was the coach of the Oakland Raiders, who had the top pick. Kiffin was overruled by Al Davis, and Russell became a Raider.
Well, eventually. Like many of the other busts on this list, Russell held out. But his hold out lasted all the way into Week 1 of his rookie season - no OTAs, no minicamp, no training camp, no preseason. As such, Russell spent most of the 2007 season on the bench, just trying to get up to speed with the Raiders’ offense. Not helping was his, shall we say, slapdash approach to film study. Raiders coaches were doubting Russell was actually studying the tapes they were giving him. To test him, they gave him blank cassettes, and then listened in shock the next day when Russell claimed to have watched the blitz packages on them. Also not helping? His conditioning, which occasionally saw him balloon up to over 300 pounds. Or, for that matter, his regular use of codeine and purple drank before, during and after his tenure with the Raiders.
Maybe his off-field problems could have been worked around if he was performing on the field, but Russell was a disaster there, too. In his 25 starts, Russell managed to rack up -1,262 passing DYAR. That’s the sixth-worst total in NFL history (since 1981), and three of the guys ahead of him put up those numbers in thousands of pass attempts. Inaccurate and inconsistent, Russell would have been a bust no matter when he was picked. To be that bad as the top pick in the entire draft - and a fairy loaded draft, with Calvin Johnson, Joe Thomas and Adrian Peterson going in the next six picks - is unfathomable. If you wanted to place him as the biggest bust in NFL history, I wouldn’t blame you.
But he does come up just short for me.

As a Bears fan, it's hard to get excited about this hire. I've heard good things about Shane and some real bad things as well. You hope decisions get made based on the best qualified, but the Bears organization has been known to hire within network rather than most qualified for the job. Shane has the same agent as Poles and Eberflus [ Trace Armstrong]. Hard not to think this is an "in the circle" hire. Time will tell. I thought we were going to fire the coaching staff and bring in a proven coach and let him and the GM pick their QB( Fields or Draft one). My excitement ended as fast as it had begun when they announced that EberLose was going to stay as coach. Fire Getsy, deserving, but retain a coach who spent the entire time coaching defense rather than being The Head coach. All due respect to Rich but Brock proves you don't need an Alien at QB (maybe alien) with a stacked roster....
Resetting the contract the clock narrative I don't buy into either...
1st with so many holes & needing better depth at key positions you still need much more draft capital (also continue to draft well) you absolutely need all the extra draft picks you can acquire in trading the 1st pick to accomplish that... Without it your basically cutting the roster stacking short & saying we are good enough now ( which is wrong) even if he turns into an Alien (again maybe)
Absolutely without question they need to trade & worry about the QB in a couple Years!!!
The closest thing to a can't miss is Harrison JR so try to get as much draft capital as possible & still draft him!! If an offer is too good to be true then you need to find a way to draft 2 of the next 2 thru 5 rated WR's as outside playmakers are 1 of the biggest holes... Absolutely need the C position to be finally solidified as well as solid OL depth and see how the passing game evolves from that over the next 2 years... If not then worry about the next QB with more than likely stacked roster!!
    WR (outside playmakers)
C 1st then all around OL depth
    Edge rusher
    Safety

Nagy and Mahomes is a very interesting and poorly documented story. One story is that he was part of the process that decided to draft Mahomes and move up as necessary to get him. But when he came to Chicago, he didn't voice that opinion knowing that Pace wanted Trubisky. So, he sat on what he knew from Kansas City and KC got their quarterback. The other story is that Nagy and Fox and, perhaps others, did not want Trubisky but Pace ignored everyone and took his guy. Chicago talk radio did a talk on it noting that Jerry Kraus tried to override the "process" within the organization that decided to take Horace Grant and take Joe Wolf instead. People went to Reinsdorf who told Krauss that he could not do it but had to go back and work with the group to arrive at a consensus. They took Grant. Later the story was changed to reflect more favorably on Krauss. The point is, however, that the Bulls ownership made the GM work the process. The Bears ownership allowed the GM to play god. I have my doubts that Nagy stood up to Pace and in the end kept quiet about what he knew about Mahomes from being at KC. Trubisky is a reflection on what Gary Fencik described as a failure of structure and opined that the Bears would never be successful until they changed it.

An Oline that was sloppy and caused him to run for his life. Just know this, You do dirt, you get dirt. I think the Bears who dont like paying players, are trying to avoid paying Fields. They know if you give him weapons based on his Ohio State WRs he will shine. All the WRs he played with in Ohio State are star players in the NFL. If they draft Caleb, I am going to put the Bears on the back burner. They dont treat the talent on the team properly. Roquan, Montgomery, and Jaylon not signed. We have the #1 overall pick NOW and the draft class this year is spoken about as being one of the best in years. So the Bears should trade Justin Fields and draft Caleb Williams NOW. Its the most important position on the field and to be a winner in the NFL you have to have a stud QB. Rich said it best, you need an "Alien" at QB.
Why get greedy and hope that you're going to POSSIBLY be able to trade for the #1 overall pick in 2025? That would be 3 years in a row, and it will cost a ton of draft capital and a player to get the overall #1 pick in 2025 for a rookie that will NOT be as highly regarded as Caleb Williams.

Caleb Williams will fail like other USC quarterbacks have failed

He's not the next Mahomes...I can't believe we use this phrase
the reason you compare him to Pat is because he runs around the backfield for 20 minutes and throws a laser IN COLLEGE......stop it cut it out
Why don't you do us all a favor compare the last 2 years of Justin at Ohio state and the last 2 of Caleb Williams at USC ....once you do that please explain to me how we are following the narrative that Caleb it's somehow better than Justin 4:05

Bears not drafting Williams… they don’t buy what you’re selling on Williams- he’s not “generational” talent…

So we draft caleb. Im cool woth it. But what happens when he has rookie struggles and chicagoians implode. Flues is out waldron is out and caleb is now with a bew coaching staff. We did it with mitch we did it with fields bow we will do it with caleb. Im calling this the Chicago shuffle.

That's what Rich meant but he doesn't want to appear to be a Fields supporter, lest Fields falls short. Rich always choses the safest line.

Mahomes was not QB immediatley. He had to wait a year on the bench. I think of the 49ers. Remember Joe Montanna had a back up named Steve Young for 2 seasons or more. get some draft capital and get whatever quaterback we can and still get a nice trade down. Caleb Williams has bust written all over him.

This is where the analysts just sound dumb. Reset the rookie contract. The Bears even with sweat will have 90 million in cap. Well you can pay Justin. Wait we drafted Harrison on a Rookie Deal. Wait we drafted a few other guys so in business 111 which I teach by the way. You pay for Talent Fields is known. I also don’t think Caleb is Alien. Norte Dame ? Washington ? Crying on mommy?Man up take that loss. Did you see the Bulls go well Jordan doesn’t have a jumper yet. Let’s trade him ? Nope. Why. ? Poles please do not do the dumb move.

As far as talent Caleb is a step down from Fields. Caleb may have a better career but if you can unlock the potential of Justin Fields it is not even close the guy can do it all, just often times he sucks.

The point about slow-playing is probably at least somewhat valid, but honestly Waldron has been great last couple years whereas Kliff's claims to fame are scoring a lot of points at TTU (where he literally had Patrick Mahomes vs Big 12 defenses) and then knowing Sean McVay/Lincoln Riley. Dude is massively overrated cause he's young, white, and good looking

No way the Bears are drafting Williams. That would be a complete disaster.
