Maybe the commissioner will need to step in.
@@kenxclout Drake is the guy. He’s not gonna start this year but the league should fear this kid in the next few years when the team has a competent o-line.
We already accepted this is a 2-3 year rebuild. Sit Maye out a year, get your high draft picks and move towards greatness. The alternative is Mac Jones 2.0 which we JUST came out of. Not sure how people could forget so fast
You guys just give away how ignorant you are. People that know what they're watching can evaluate just by their play. You do know that all these guys were scouted for years playing against college kids? You guys are so clueless.
This is an easy choice for a first time head coach (or any HC really). The team has no weapons and no O Line. Play the vet. If he does badly bring the rookie in after 4/5 games, if he gets injured because of the above issues, bring in the rookie. Under no circumstances should Maye be the wk1 starter. You’re asking for trouble by doing that. The team is bad anyway and is probably a 5/6 win team at best. You’re playing for nothing, don’t risk having you rookie qb destroyed physically and mentally in his rookie season
I'm not concerned about Drake not being ready, I'm concerned about the offensive line not being ready. Drake is gonna get killed behind that line if he's the starter.
Did I miss something? Did they name him QB1? 🤔 He's the backup for God's sake and he Will have to play regardless if Brissett or Milton gets hurt just like any other backup. They're so worried the Patriots have a good QB they trying their best to devalue him before he even starts. Worry about the rookies that are actually named QB1.
They absolutely should not play him at all. He's faced backups all preseason and you're gonna put him in against the Bengals defense in week 1, which isn't spectacular, but it is far from the worst defense in the league with a rebuilding o-line. He's gonna get demolished and he's gonna start rushing his motion, and his internal clock is gonna get screwed up, and its gonna start with rushed throws, and then its gonna develop into him thinking he has to make throws into coverage because he's afraid of losing yards to a sack, and then you're gonna have a nervous wreck leading the team that isn't going to win anything anyway. Just let him sit for a year and go get an o-line and start him next year.
Drake Maye ain't nowhere near ready.. put him out there vs a top tier defense like Baltimore Pittsburgh or my Raiders if you want to, gonna take years off his life

Maybe the Pats should start the season with Joe Milton at QB until they can upgrade the o-line. He's nearly the size of an o-lineman, and he's got a cannon for an arm.
I don't see them putting Milton ahead of Maye as that will create mass confusion. He would be more interesting than Brissett, but I don't see it happening. Kraft and his braintrust have completely messed this thing up by not spending any money to upgrade the O line. Kraft has more cap space than anyone, he's just too cheap. That family needs to be run out of town. Can someone plant something on him and create a scandal. He will destroy Maye.
He's got a cannon all right. Unfortunately, the cannon would misfire all the time and the ball would end up in the defenders hands more often than Patriot hands.
He does, but his media shills are silent. Inexcusable he sat on all that money and didn't do anything to fix their biggest issue. Now we have to wait on letting Maye play. Kraft stepped in 3 years ago after they missed the playoffs and has been meddling ever since while remaining incredibly cheap. Mac Jones was his pick and then he wanted Mac to get every chance to succeed forcing 3 years of it on us. Kraft is the devil.
@@BaronVonMunchReally? He was cheap? Belichick made all the signings. They spent the most money out of anyone in free agency in Macs rookie year, and all it got was 10-7 and the worst playoff loss since the Bears in Super Bowl 20. Why don't you be fair then? If you want to blame Kraft, fine. But that means you have to give him equal credit when things went right, which was a lot of the time in 18 years from 2000-2018. My god. I'm ashamed to call you a Patriots fan. It's like a kid who gets a sports car for his birthday, then throws a tantrum when he doesn't get a yacht for Christmas. Rich, I like your dress shirt and I appreciate the swag you exude by rolling your cuffs and undoing your top button but you can take it another level by unbuttoning another button and showing that luscious chest hair.
Drake Maye supporter here, he'll be the best QB in this years draft class when it's all said &done but the Patriots can't start Maye this season. Drake Maye is the future for the Pats not right now, that roster is among the worst I've seen in decades. This terrible O-line could forever damage Maye physically &mentally, it could turn him into David Carr, Sam Darnold, Justin Fields or even Josh Rosen. I've said from jump Drake Maye could play in every game this season, he just doesn't have to be the starter; give him a few goaline packages. Maye can play the entire 4th or even the whole second half, everyone know this team is terrible &the #1 priority should be to ensure Drake Maye gets better every week &is put in a position to flourish &be great
Quick way to lose the locker room and make everyone especially the defense disinterested if you swap qbs every game like that, what if maye has 2 tds in the second half of a game and wins, what are you gonna sit him for the start of next game, will just make the fire burn more. I would start maye, he’s proven himself and looks ready.
@@DMKFACTOR I'm sure you didn't watch them. Mac Jones had the worst year any qb could ever have. He absolutely sucks. The O line wasn't great, but was miles better than what we've seen in preseason. The new "braintrust" brought in no one good for the O line and is not just moving guys around seeing who can play what position. The new gm keeps telling us that these guys can all play 4 different positions and they're fine, yet they keep moving them every week. He also drafted a guard and announced he could be the next left tackle. Now Drake Maye is already light years beyond Mac Jones and looks very promising. The problem is the O line has been so bad that no one knows if any qb will survive. This O line has been a complete clown show this camp. The previous 2 years they just weren't too good with an incredibly horrible qb behind them. It could be off the charts how bad this O line is because we don't know if anyone there has a clue anymore.
I guess this was before Belichick's take on it. You learn almost nothing in preseason games when it comes to QB. What happens in practice is much more informative. If Mayo is saying Drake may start then he must be seeing something during practice.
Probably, and Kraft should go to prison for it for not spending a penny in the offseason to make it better. They've actually made it far worse. All the backup centers can't even snap the ball and they commit a penalty on every other play. Sometimes they don't block defenders and often they run into each other. One guy lines up too far back 4-5 times a game. Been a complete even competing against backup defenses. I'm concerned for whoever the qb is on opening day. I think maybe they'll just have to run on every play and maybe just mix in a couple of screens. We have to realize that the line was put together by a rookie gm and being coached by a rookie head coach with a defensive background and a rookie offensive coordinator. This is Kraft's master plan.
Look, the Patriots are my least favorite team ever. Since 1985. But mark the words - they will regret the games when they start Jacoby Brissett. This is a young man's game. Get 'em good or get 'em gone. This coaching staff does not have the time to emulate the Packers.
Face it, you can't evaluate players. Others can evaluate them playing against college kids. I know, hard for you to imagine. Don't worry, just wave your pom poms every week for your favorite team. The NFL doesn't mind, your money is as good as everyone else's.
The Pats are going to be terrible this year no matter who plays QB. Drake is the best and also the future. I would sit him and let Brisset and even Zappe play. Next year they will receive another top 3 pick and will have a boat load of money. Invest in the offensive line along with some weapons and then start Drake. Then and only then they will be competitive for a playoff position.
Will Kraft ever spend money? He should have spent this year to shore up the O line. Instead it is far worse and he has a ton of cap space. He should be getting skewered for this, but he has too many shill friends in the media.
He wasn't playing 3rd and 4th stringers. That's how I know you didn't watch. He had to step into the 1st quarter against Washington and 2nd or 1st in the other 2. No team has 3rd or 4th stringers playing in the 1st or 2nd quarter.
Drop Brissett and let Zappe play punching bag for a month. Red shirt Drake. He’s the long game. Let’s not screw this up. Maye will win SBs in the future for us. Zappe is dog meat. Feed him to the wolves.
I hope to hell he won't be the turnover machine that Allen is. Allen will only frustrate his faithful followers until the very end. I just can't ever root for a loser. Been burned in the past, just not worth it.
Yeah, he was good vs 3rd stringers with the DC calling a vanilla defense like all teams in preseason games. Throw him in Week 1 with a bottom 5 Oline is a great idea. He’ll be seeing ghosts like Sam Darnold with the Jets by the end of the yr, maybe injured. Dumb AF if they do cuz they’re yrs away from any sort of playoff run.
Go ahead and say it, Rich - Drake Maye was the only White guy on the field last night and the coach is trying desperately to squeeze Joe Milton in somehow. Milton was horrible. So was his offensive line. But you can’t be 6’-5” and get your passes slapped back at you at the line by third string defenders. And his passes were all over the place and threw the receivers. What Mayo is trying to do is obvious. Which is OK, but just think who Tom Brady had for an offensive line during the Super Bowl run: Matt Light, Dan Coppen, Logan Mankins, Gronkowski, Stephen Neal, David Andrews… Franchise your franchise, Coach Mayo. Stop screwing around with the wallpaper.
So sad to see huge men that play offensive line are nothing more than soft failures and should go sell insurance, seems like Trent Brown syndrome!!! Pathetic excuse!!!!
The Patriots need to embrace being bad for at least a year. This isn't the time to start Drake Maye. He's 21, he has all the tools to be a franchise QB. The Patriots need an O-Line and a franchise WR. I think Polk and Baker would be great 2nd and 3rd options, but they need someone who is a matchup problem. Aiyuk would have been that, but they still need an O-Line. Sit Drake Maye, put him in during the games we're getting blown out so he can get his reps, but we need some franchise players out of college, and that gets easier the more we lose.
I've been watching Rich since ESPN. This guy has sustained excellence for decades, day in and day out!

Looks like the offense on this team will be a complete mess this year. I just hope the qbs don't get seriously injured. Maybe the commissioner will need to step in.
yes, he looked good against 3rd stringers
He looked good against the eagles starters last weekend too buddy.
@@ADVERTUREEagles defense is trash 🤣
Yeah when his line was historically bad. That alone rachets up the difficulty lol
Brissett played the same 2nd stringers last night and a week ago against the Eagles. Maye outplayed Brisset in both cases.
That's a tough schedule for pats may be only Jac Seattle rams cardinals are more winnable
He looked good against the worst team in the NFL and their second string
You guys just give away how ignorant you are. People that know what they're watching can evaluate just by their play. You do know that all these guys were scouted for years playing against college kids? You guys are so clueless.
Drake Maye will have a better rookie season compared to Josh Allen’s
With that O line, I wouldn't bet on it.
Run wildcat with Maye and Milton. lol
You cannot put the kid behind that line against starting NFL D lines.
If he plays he could become another Andrew Luck. Be careful with the kid, please.
I'm not concerned about Drake not being ready, I'm concerned about the offensive line not being ready. Drake is gonna get killed behind that line if he's the starter.
lol laminated so you don't spill coffee on it.
My absolute horror watching a young Patriots QB flourish…..
I mean, Mac jones looked good his rookie year and look how that turned out
you a Jets fan?
If the Jets knocked out the starting quarterback…I would be concerned. If Maye said on to Cincinnati my head would explode 🤯
Play him against terrible defense for practice until this o line is good
O line.
This is going to be worst than last year.
Drake Maye ain't nowhere near ready.. put him out there vs a top tier defense like Baltimore Pittsburgh or my Raiders if you want to, gonna take years off his life
No one is scared of your Raiders. That's hilarious.
@BaronVonMunch from the sound of it, you sound like a Pats fan.. least we didn't pick in the top 3 which says how bad yall really were but you're gonna talk trash.... As if
@@MRHEEL-ys2rqraiders are in the same boat with a bridge qb in a tough division.
@@tonytheg6612 and I understand that. We had a chance to get CJ Stroud, only for our HC(McDumbass) to overrule the GM. Amd people wonder why he sucks as a HC
KJ Hendry might be the next Mo Lewis?! OMG 🫰
With 50 million in cap space how the hell didn't they sign a left tackle? Kraft deserves alot of criticism.
How spoiled and ungrateful could you possibly be?
Rich, I like your dress shirt and I appreciate the swag you exude by rolling your cuffs and undoing your top button but you can take it another level by unbuttoning another button and showing that luscious chest hair.
If there's not a playoff slot at stake, sit the kid.
Pats Offense might be worse than the Panthers last year.
Is that even possible?
@@TheOsfaniayes it’s still a defensive head coach the pats have.
They only averaged 13.8 points last season, can’t see it getting much worse!
Someone Doesn’t get football
0-17!!!
I guess this was before Belichick's take on it. You learn almost nothing in preseason games when it comes to QB. What happens in practice is much more informative. If Mayo is saying Drake may start then he must be seeing something during practice.
Patriots offensive line could be the worst professional offensive line ever ..
I hate that Drake Maye reminds me of Philip Rivers and that he plays for Patriots.
Whoever the starting QB for the Pats is going to be, they are going to die on the field unless some miracle happens with that OLine.
Definitely would of been a flag if mahomes got hit like brissett did just throwing that out there
ESPN is going bankrupt. That’s my theory.
It’s preseason. Simmer down.
This pre season hype is such nonsense. Most guys on the defense will be bagging groceries in a couple weeks
He looked good against 3rd and 4th string running man and cover 3 and cover 1 defense? 🤔 my son had those coverages down in 3rd grade tackle football
He wasn't playing 3rd and 4th stringers. That's how I know you didn't watch. He had to step into the 1st quarter against Washington and 2nd or 1st in the other 2. No team has 3rd or 4th stringers playing in the 1st or 2nd quarter.
@@siegmund87 you weren’t watching the game 43 players on Washington sideline not dressed! You tell me who he was playing against then?
Drake Maye is HIM!
Drop Brissett and let Zappe play punching bag for a month. Red shirt Drake. He’s the long game. Let’s not screw this up. Maye will win SBs in the future for us. Zappe is dog meat. Feed him to the wolves.
So why can't Brissett be the punching bag?
Ok, the bar is set! He should be just like Josh Allen. Anything less is a FAIL
I hope to hell he won't be the turnover machine that Allen is. Allen will only frustrate his faithful followers until the very end. I just can't ever root for a loser. Been burned in the past, just not worth it.
That kid is going to die behind that oline.
Can't wait to watch the Skins this year without the bumbling, incompetent, lost, coaching of Ron "The Fraud GM" Rivera and staff.
Jerod talks to much.He needs to learn not to b so honest about what he feels
This is hilarious. Drake Maye "development" on a horrible, horrible team? LOL it matters...why?
Yeah, he was good vs 3rd stringers with the DC calling a vanilla defense like all teams in preseason games. Throw him in Week 1 with a bottom 5 Oline is a great idea. He’ll be seeing ghosts like Sam Darnold with the Jets by the end of the yr, maybe injured. Dumb AF if they do cuz they’re yrs away from any sort of playoff run.
Oh boy. Nobody is playing 3rd stringers in the 1st quarter. Would think this is obvious.
Will see how a dei hire goes again. ✍️
lol
I dont know -- I saw 2 throws from the kid only Mahomie could do -- Got a loud NO-WAY from me !!! Did not watch the whole came, channel hop n !!!
Which is OK, but just think who Tom Brady had for an offensive line during the Super Bowl run: Matt Light, Dan Coppen, Logan Mankins, Gronkowski, Stephen Neal, David Andrews…
Franchise your franchise, Coach Mayo. Stop screwing around with the wallpaper.
Quarterbacks get passes batted down all the time. Milton isn't the first one it happened to.
@@siegmund87
He’s missing his lanes. Quarterbacks don’t have their passes slapped back by third string defenders. Wise up!
If won't matter if they start him or not. Maye is another Sam Howell.
Kendrick is better
Looking at the Patriots schedule they will not win a single game this year. Just a really bad team.
Falcons… womp womp
They'll win at most 3 or 4 due to mistakes made by other teams. Imo
We’ll just have to Celebrate 28-3 all year. Trophy Shining
I don't know who the co-host/ producer is but FFS let the bit die. So annoying to listen to. Plus he LOVES to talk over Rich. Get your own show buddy.
So sad to see huge men that play offensive line are nothing more than soft failures and should go sell insurance, seems like Trent Brown syndrome!!! Pathetic excuse!!!!
Trent Brown was great compared to these guys. This line looks ten times worse than last year's.
1-16.....Robert Kraft will never see another SB win
He is old so maybe we won't have to wait that long. Now if we can just get the spoiled brat kid of his to sell the team.
@@BaronVonMunch What?! You must not be from New England.....we love the Krafts and his sons aren't spoiled....
The patriots' jerrod mayo experiment will be worse than the redskins' richie petibone clusterfuck in 1993
"Jerod" will be fine
