This shot is so beautiful. The wide angle lens is perfect. How on earth can a decrepit setting look so glamorous? The cinematography in this films is 11/10. Thank you for posting
Grew up in this area. This scene gives me chills. THe music and the cinematography perfectly encapsulates the boring dystopia that is this area of Michigan.
I grew up in Toledo and had family in Detroit. This part definitely captured the feeling of driving around in late autumn/winter, how everything looks so decrepit and grey. Gives me the shivers just thinking about it. 😬
Same. I think Detroit should be preserved as a decrepit city, sorta like a museum a cautionary tale of how America can devolve. Then start charging big bucks from tourists who visit lol
I grew up around Columbus, but I had to go to Detroit a lot for work. Moved out to the Rockies a few years ago, so seeing this does bring me back. I miss Ohio, but man, Detroit was always just a crumbling sewer of a city.
I have dreams like this all the time, where i get lost in an unknow city and its gets late at night, and the bus never comes. I remember clearly the first time i saw this movie, i went in the cinema on a saturday night not knowing anything about the movie, one of the greatest cinema experiences ever for me.
I grew up in the 70s and 80s and the best way to capture the feeling of those times is to disconnect from the online noise of the internet and simply listen to the music you enjoy. I find that coming from a time where phone calls were made from home and the internet was something that was part of your swim trunks, I miss that feeling of being dissconnected. I enjoy simply shutting down my internet and phone and limiting myself to a few choice albums for awhile really takes me back to a time that lacked all of the myriad choices that create brain static and unhappiness.
Great scene indeed. The wide angle fixed camera sets the atmosphere up and that soundtrack is amazing....channels the spirit of John Carpenter perfectly.
This movie is one of my favourites. A masterpiece about paranoia and confrontation with the unknown. Maika Monroe is really unique, one of the best actresses!
The score in this scene (and the whole film) is just incredible...it's simultaneously nostalgic and modern. It's so good, I listen to it when I read certain kinds of books.
This movie was filmed in my home town, this is an incredibly accurate Depiction of 8 mile road. Looks like they filmed the driving scene in winter, and in the house scene is clearly summer months. This gives this scene a weird feeling because the seasons change.
Time is deliberately murky throughout the whole film. For instance, in the opening scene the woman drives a modern car, but during the sex scene you see a new-looking car from the 70s. Characters swim in the pool one day and wear jackets with an autumn backdrop the next. It contributes to a dreamlike feeling
@@DadaistTheater It is especially enigmatic that she talks about her dreams of meeting a guy with a nice car after she met the guy with the nice car and got the brakes beaten off. I think about this movie often, even she isn't in reality so her friends and sister tell her they'll take her to get therapy because they don't believe her. Her mom is a phantom with her back turned to all of them.
To be honest this scene moved me more than the demons did. Detroit will always be my home. It was greatest city and one day will be the GREATEST U.S city again. Detroit FUTURE FOREVER.
Such an awesome scene. Poor old Detroit really looks to be in major urban decay. I know the whole city won't be like that but f*ck me it's a real shame what's happened there
Nah, Detroit is doing far better than most cities. It gets dogged on for the recession but that was 40 years ago, other places should be so lucky to get the head start on recovery it got. I wanted to move there but property prices are sky high.
This movie needs a two or three movie sequel an a prequel. A prequel on where this curse came from and how it can spread and a sequel this curse can just keep going on for ever it seems. Great movie 8.5 out of 10
One of the greatest and well made horror films of the ‘10s, even of the whole millennium! It’s not only wonderfully shot, cleverly written, well acted, expertly scored!!, competently edited, but many horror films try to recapture the essence of ‘80s horror, with all those elements, and may accomplish a few traits, but this, as far as ‘80s throwbacks, may be the best one made!
The haunting imagery of Detroit's urban decay accounts for about 25% of this scenes darkly evocative power --- the other roughly 75% is due to the music --- if you don't believe that, just watch it with the sound off. Taken together however, this is one heck of a moody and quietly disturbing scene and the one that stuck most in memory after seeing it.
God damn what a movie, even if it is the most back-handed compliment to my city (like Lost River). Bug F to the Repilicans who killed the tax cedit that made it possible.
this movie was so boring and slow, but man it had some nice atmospheres, i love this scene in particular because, for some reason i can't explain, i'm fascinated by abandoned places
This film holds such a special place in my heart.
It's strange for me, because I feel I didn't like it but I still have it on my computer. I love this scene and watch it every time I can.
@@nilber24 this scene has a lot of weight to it. Music makes it that much better.
whole movie wasnt that great, decent but not masterpiece. however this scene alone is amazing, both soundtrack and declining city view is so dope
It’s a very real movie, combining a thrilling supernatural element to what is a real issue among all people.
the music and atmosphere so make this movie!

This evokes nostalgia and sadness for me, I wonder if others feel the same.

The music does it for me. It reminds me of the car rides I used to go on with my mom and dad when I was a kid. We would go to different cities alot.
JESUS i loved this scene, the music made it even greater
Being a fan of Disasterpeace from the MySpace days to making an original score to such an astonishingly good horror movie was a trip.

This scene is a mood
For some reason I feel so alive during this scene.
yea i feel like my wet hairs are wriggling in the cool summer breeze
actually i feel more alive when i'm in wild, natural and or decrepit environments. Too perfect and clean places make me feel sick
Gosh i wish i was grown in the 80s or 70s man just the music, car and theme take me back to a place ive never even been

great scene!
I wish this guy was doing the soundtrack for blade runner 2049.
Only cinema and a work of fiction can make such a decrepit area look glamorous. Loved this scene from the movie.
Absolutely amazing scene. Thanks
