Its that "stuck in the 1970s" everything about these that makes them compelling. I've seen some people try making them look modern inside and if you ask me, that defeats the entire point. They sell new RVs for that lol. I've got a 1977 Chieftain that was VERY original and I was very careful to select the upholstery and had to learn a lot of esoteric skills to keep it that way. But it was SOOOOOO worth it. It turns every head it goes by and I get a LOT of questions, which is fun and i love to talk about it.
Just my thoughts, you and I both know how rare and special this rig is. I wouldn't change a thing about the interior. Just leave it all original, refurbish what is worn out, but don't change a thing. Part of the fun in these old motorhomes is learning to enjoy the amenities and quirks of decades gone by.
Yea I agree there’s a lot of old Winnebagos on RUclips that people have just destroyed by renovating the inside of them I mean I’m not against putting new carpet in it and maybe some backsplash in the kitchen or a new refrigerator but some people go way 2 far
Those old 70s refrigerators runoff of pneumonia now I don’t know much about pneumonia but I know that probably can’t be the best thing for your health lol
Oh man I'm absolutely in love with interior! It's got a lot of similarities to my old Titan. But damn other than maybe getting the seats done I wouldn't change a single thing about it!
My uncle has a 1971 Winnie similar to this. Just has the single door. The rear has a large bed that runs side to side with a bunk above. The dinette folds into a bed. There’s also a bunk above the forward seats. No central vac. Lots of closet space. The bathroom has a sink and mirror on the left. Toilet snd shower head are on the right. Has the same oven/stove. Refrigerator has been replaced, but in the same place. Lots of Yahtzee has been played inside.
I recently acquired a 1977 Winnebago with the Dodge 440 already taken out. The interior is very original, and came with a boatload of paperwork. I'm personally looking to restore to exactly the way it was built- can't stand modern junk and the layout works very well for me anyway. I hadn't a clue i liked these things until i had one of my own, so i'm doing all the video research to get the lowdown on what exactly i'm getting myself into with this project. Oh yeah, like i said the 440 had been taken out, and normally I am a Cadillac enthusiast so i'm going to put Cadillac 472 drivetrain in. Same engine as my '69 Fleetwood Brougham and i love the way it drives. Plenty of torque for this application. Thanks for the tour, very educational!
I’ve got a 1970 grand lodge, used to have 413, but as of 10 years ago has a built 440. Interior is all original, shag carpet and all baby!😎 should be a pretty cool rig for the car shows!
so funny i recently acquired a 71 27 ft winny and the fridge though it looks shot -works perfectly ! as do 1 of the2 roof acs and i have that vacuum set up ina closet next to my bath room in the back though i have no clue where to begin on that ,didnt see any hoses anywhere so cant win them all i guess ?
I also own a retro RV, an Apache hard side popup from 1976, also very rare, and I do want to keep it original, I also would like to modify it to make it better though, I thought about carefully removing pieces of it and storing them, I kind of have the mind set that an item is only valuable to people who pay money, remodeling it might be a better fit as it will make it more desirable in the future. Its like my vintage cadillac, I didn't buy it to stay pristine, I bought it to drive the crap out of it.
Yup! They can be found pretty cheap! My first one I paid 500 bucks for it, but that was 15+ years ago. This one was a little more, but being a two door model, I was willing to pay more.
Excellent tour. Dreaded question, I'm sure, but what's the gas mileage on that rig? ~8mpg? Somewhat related: How does your family use it? Long trips? Local? Just thinking of the practicality aspect. It's definitely cool; no doubt about that.
8mpg would be on a good day, with the wind on it's back, heading downhill. ;). 6 to 7mpg, but that is with pulling a car behind it. It does help that it has a 35 gallon gas tank in the front and a 45 gallon tank in the back. We do both short and long trips with it. I would say it's far from practical! But then I would guess most 50 year old classic vehicles are not.
Is there anyway to get hold of you,I have 1967 Winnebago,i really need information on these beauty's, everyone tell me get rid of it,it only has 40'000mil,and it's nice inside please let me know how we can be friends
