Update: The reason I do not recommend updated the XU10 OS to AmberELEC is it kills the Dreamcast custom emulator and you will lose that amazing performance. If you don't need Dreamcast then go ahead - simply download the RG351V file. here coar.ee/XU10/ - unzip it, backup the system files and replace with the ones here. I WOULDN'T though. Performance is everything.
I am very interested on XU10 devicem but, Is that the only downside? what are the coins of AmberELEC if it is installed? does it increase the perfomance in other emulators? and how do I update the original XU10 OS?
Great voice and super well made videos, feels very natural and no doubt that you will grow without competitions BUT with that said my favorite game to replay is Goemon Mystical Ninja just because it was such a weird experience for me to play it as a kid, never finished it tho.
biggest win for r36s is the fact it use ArkOS 🎉 it can automatically save state your game when you exit the game and auto load said save state when you start that game later time I can press r3 + power in game to auto save state and safely shutdown my device, later when I press power to turn on my device it will take directly to that game save state I use above auto save state each time I play my r36s support for video preview and screensaver which I can play them randomly by pressing select button, while in video mode I can press select or right d-pad to play next random video and press start to play displayed game, great for discoverability
Was so close to buying an r36s. Only reason I didn't was all the games I wanted to play run fine on my hacked froggy (FF VI on SNES, my favorite, runs just fine running the latest multicore hack). Definitely going to upgrade to the next tier at some point though.
I just ordered the R36s after seeing it being sold on facebook called something else and for over £100 so did some research and found out about the R35s. Saw it was only £33. So I bought one. But I didn't know about the other one being better performance. So hope I don't regret my purchase. I tried getting emulation station running on my steamdeck but struggled and couldn't be bothered to source all the roms myself. And any builds i downloaded didn't seem to boot into when i tried on my steamdeck. So hopefully this is a great alternative.
Great video! My R36s has that same crackling/interference when I have my WiFi dongle plugged. Luckily it's not too annoying as I only plug it in to scrape case art or do an update. As far as my favourite game to emulate it has to be Wipeout 2097, i dip into the others from the franchise but 2097 is that nostalgia vibe for me!
great vid, very in depth for such a small creator (been here since your first video :D some of the best content out there) my fav game for emulation is pokemon red/blue just because of its replay value
I have had them both. The XU-10 performs significantly better than the R36S. N64, Dreamcast and PSP is another world. Unplayable on the R36S and smooth/alright on the XU-10.
Well i bought the R36S and tbh it's only a companion device to my rog ally and Steamdeck as couldn't be bothered to set up emulation on those. I will see how bad it is. it was £30 so. who cares.
My little brother bought an R36S! Was really good, using a phone through otg to give it access to the Internet to update everything was the key to make some weird things of the old version of the os go away and update the cores of the emulators! And I say was, because he spilled water all over it, so, now is fried 😅
The XU10 just feels so much better in hand than the R36S, everything from the button quality to the plastics and the overall finish. It is easy to fix the XU10 firmware, and once that is done, the XU10 is really great. Also, the R36S battery indicator annoys me when playing at night. I have the transparent black and the transparent purple R36S consoles. They annoy me at night. I will keep both, my R36S is in my desk at work, but the XU10 is on par with Anbernic devices as far as build quality.
I am new in the Handheld world and I was looking for some tips . I love the way you describe, test and recommand. Thank you. my favorite game was mario 64. it was great
Very informative video. Never owned any handhelds, recently started looking into it. So far, R36S and ArkOS seems like the winner to me. The buttons do seem like a problem but I can maybe look over it for the price. Did the ergonomics of R36S seem really overbearing? Does it ever become more like a hindrance instead of an annoyance?
Good question: the form factor is a little uncomfortable for larger hands but the flip side is the ease of being able to throw them in a pocket. Very handy
You can easily mod the buttons to make them feel better, that's what I did and it's a night and day difference. You just cut the plastic connecting the buttons together.
Not going to lie, i was considering the xu10 until the R36S showed up. For me, the XU10 on paper just looked a lot more gimmicky and toyish, which from where im located, the XU10 was more expensive so it became harder to consider once the R36S appeared on ali. All the points you showed though, do make me want to at least consider trying it. It might be the next device i try, if i can get it around the same price as the R36S.
Also, checking again, the XU10 actually sits around the $100 mark for me(looking for longer, i did manange to find cheaper, but lowest being 70 so far), where as the R36S still sits around $50-60. That's what really sold me on the R36S. *eddited.
This device have an issue with the state files that cause the games freezes randomly on the default OS can’t figure it out so at this moment is unplayable experience for me, I’m tired to play again and again expecting a crash on any time at this moment on psx emulator.
I'm currently enjoying the first Silent Hill on my R36S, and it is awesome ! Do you have any more information on how NOT to damage the battery of the r36s ? Thanks so much for the video !
Hi - you just have to charge using USB power to ensure you don't over charge it - any higher capacity charger bar the old school Iphone ones put out too much juice and can/have damaged my devices.
I wont be original, but my favourite is Super Mario World from SNES. In fact i remember it being the first game I played on my PS3 right after I modded it many years ago 😅
It doesnt have Rk3326s, there are photos of the motherboard and its a bogstandard 3326 and also memory is just DDR3. I cant post the link to the photo as there is apparently active protection against links
Actually XU10's CPU is RK3326S, which is newer and more powerful, and it comes with JELOS installed, not AmberELEC, since the end of 2023. Overall it will offer a considerably better experience than R36S
The actual chip isn't the S variant this is confirmed by openeing the device despite it stating it is the S variant on the box. Disappointing. The reason DC emulation is best on stock is because it uses a proprietary emulator rather than the Retroarch one as well
@@MarkiTechYt I've done that all day. At one point the display started working again, but it was very distorted looking. Then after restarting it the display stopped working again.
Can someone help me find a SUPER cheap budget handheld that can PLAY at least metal gear solid & possibly psp games/GameCube Ibeen homeless for over a year and have been deeply missing my PS4 ps vits and PS5 and all my other systems. awesome video. Subbed and liked. Techdweeb has a bit of a guide on his review of the XU10 that shows how to unlock all the features of the OS as it seems this is actually a lockeddown version of the amberelec software that runs the Anbernic RG351V. It does casue some issues with dreamcast though apparently if you hack it that way. My Favourite game to emulate is Sunset riders. Cowboy western game that i only managed to finally finish after many years due to the save state feature on emulators.
One reason I don't recommend upgrading to Amberelec which isn't mentioned until much later in Dweebs video is that it kills Dreamcast performance which is a big no no for me
@@MarkiTechYt Agreed wouldn't do it either. Clever move from the makers of the XU10 its like they basically took the R36S, cut down on software bloat and slightly overclocked it to provide better performance out the box.
