This update really encapsulates the attitudes of the competitive smash community at the time. Wanting Brawl to be their idea of what Melee is so much and losing sight of balancing the game.
And tbh I very much dislike the idea of trying to make every character Melee Fox. The other top tiers in Melee are all so unique and distinct and trying to fit every character into a very specific mold doesn’t work well as we see here.
I don't think they mean making every character Melee Fox as in how he functions, but rather his power level. I can kinda get behind that philosophy if taken to the extreme like with Brawl-.
Fun fact: Mewtwo's tail was much larger in all versions of PM than its Vanilla Smash versions. Not the hitbox, just the length of it

Man this is a throwback. I know this is the most iconic version of the game. But I always remember shortly before this when Wizzrobe first showed up when he was like 15-16 and was absolutely bodying everyone with Sonic. Honestly I really liked the "everyone is broken" aspect of it. This was when I was playing smash the most and I remember everyone irl just feeling sad that most of the characters got nerfed in 3.5
You could say pit flew too close to the sun in this update
I really hate the “everybody is like melee fox” rhetoric that gets pushed. Like actually playing these characters and enjoying them let you see how unique everybody played but as soon as somebody see projectile speed and combo game they say “melee fox”

A different brawl modder actually does have the files for Shin, anothen blue is his name, I believe. If I remember correctly, in a comment on one of his Shin Godzilla videos, he said he was going to finish it. The original creator has been completely inactive for several years now.

@@Churd_ No, iirc it was someone named "pepperoncino", but they were only on discord. No youtube, no twitter, only on discord. Blue has the files because he was friends with pepper, but nobody's heard anything from pepper in literal years, which is why blue is planning on finishing it now.
Project M is what I always think of when the FGC repeats that mantra of “always buff never nerf”. Making every character busted is NOT how you balance a game. Characters are more interesting when they’re designed with strengths and weaknesses. Project M is exactly the kind of nonsense that fans would make instead of real game devs. It’s like an over the top Super Mario Maker level.
Thank god the later updates have sorta undone this stuff
Yeah. I like to play Link in Melee. Personally I think the PAL versions of the top tier characters are much better but I also appreciate that they nerfed Link's upb. When you play against the top tiers in Slippi and they're down a few stocks they often start spamming their most busted moves because that's what they rely on to win. The game itself is really fun but the brokenness of some of the characters really ruins the game.
Okay but for 3.0 Mewtwo, he is called the WORLD'S STRONGEST POKÉMON. If there's any character that deserves to be a top tier in Smash, Mewtwo is absolutely one of them.
Back when I played 3.0 over custom servers on the wii and tournaments here and there for a bit, I played Mewtwo alongside some other characters like Falco, Game & Watch, and Bowser (Bowser was my actual main he was sooo fun!). Good times!

I wish Nintendo didn’t hate its modding community, and that it put better games out. Project M was out for years before we even had speculation of Sm4sh and it still resulted in being what we would rather play as fans at a certain point regardless of the version. I wasn’t as savvy with the versions per Wii I could run so my older brother had 3.5 with knuckles and Isaac by the time everything was said and done, and I kept the 3.0v because I loved how “unlocked” and “viable” the rest of the roster was. Needless to say, Project M will forever be better than its successors by far, in a sense of the PmDev’s saying, “THIS is what you meant Nintendo. THIS is how we’d like to play the game”
RIP PIT! 3.5 nerfed my boy so hard. Thankfully P+ brought him back tho. Love the videos Honest, you are the man when it comes to PM/smash content

This made me miss my modded wii. Me and the homies used to spar so much in Project M; especially before the release of Ultimate. Crazy times. The game felt amazing though. The speed of the game; the combos. Maan.
I know some people miss this version, but trust me, it would have gotten old seeing everyone spam their broken b moves as their neutral.

I'll never forget waiting til midnight to play as the new skins as well as Mewtwo and Roy, just for it to be delayed by an hour or so. Was still so worth it though

The M in Project M stands for Metaknight this is supposed to signify how BUSTED Metaknight 6:24 6:24 was back in brawl. And, how every character becomes busted like Metaknight in their own unique way. Ergo this is why project M has the M.
That range looks absurd. Mewtwo must have been someone's favorite on the design team when they buffed him because WOWWWWWWWWW Starting to look like Sephiroth over there.

Why is four stocks used in competitive play for PM? Shouldn't be three stocks like in Brawl?
They have more stocks because the mod is very fast paced and having only 3 stock would make the games very short
@@porpoisequeen4775 Normally in Brawl-based games I usually see three stocks instead of four. I wonder why four-stock wasn't the standard in most competitive Brawl matches back then...
The game is closer to Melee, they use 4 Stocks.
Because Brawl was typically far slower and campier than Melee, which meant the pace of the game would come to a crawl with 4 stocks, often leading to time outs. @@NewGabeOrder
@@NewGabeOrder brawl tended to be slow for a lot of reasons so less stocks still left the games at a good length. Smash 64 had crazy hitstun so 0-deaths were super common so they used 5 stocks, melee was fast but harder to just touch of death so they did 4.
Brawl just didn't have the combo game the others had so they had to adjust that way

@@emperortoho yeah after playing some ultimate for a couple miniutes, he does have somethings to watch out for, like his smash attacks and down air.
