My sweet grandmother, Doris "Dolly" Graves, also known as "The Tire Lady" based on this memorable appearance on Family Feud in 1980, went home to Heaven this morning to reunite with my Grandaddy Graves. Regarding her Family Feud appearance, she had never seen Family Feud until the family got invited to audition. My mom wasn't even sure she would want to participate. Grandmother also wasn't initially going to be the "Head of the Family" but upon meeting her, the show insisted she was the one they wanted at the helm. Good decision on their part.

1:00 and rewatching my favorites folder. This comment is the best bedtime story I've had in a long time.
This is my grandmother, and she is 89 almost 90 and is still living. This episode is from 1980. She often sees herself on the Game Show Network, and loves it.
So she was 52 when she was on this episode of Family Feud.

This episode aired on Buzzr. The board, for those who are interested, was:
1. Car/Tires (39)
2. Appliances (13)
3. Shoes (10)
4. Clothing (9)
5. Batteries (5)
6. Light Bulbs (5)
There were two strikes on the board when Richard came to Dolly (the fifth player also named an appliance and failed to come up with an answer that made the survey), and she failed to reveal another answer, so the other family was able to steal the bank by giving the #6 answer (light bulbs).
Despite this moment, Dolly's family came back and won the game with $474. They even won an additional $5,000 in Fast Money.

Even if her glasses didn't work, wouldn't she have heard the other members of her family give those answers already? Did she not understand the concept of the game and think that the answers up on the board were categories she could use, or was she simply starting to go senile? Maybe there's just no logical explanation for it.
@Mikez4 Dawson was born in Gosport, England and he did not come to the USA until he was an adult.

normally, Richard wasn't as patient and was full of rude-but-entertaining, remarks! And if you play it back, at the beginning, you'll see he is just a tad bit rude when he says appliances are up on the board! Nonetheless... hilarious!

I liked this show, but as a kid I used to get annoyed that Richard Dawson kissed the women. I used to think, "That's gross, I don't ever want to be on this show, he'll try to kiss me." Of course, little kids tend to think that way, lol.
