Glad i found you Jerm. I just bought a 4216 as i'm doing a kitchen draw reno and want to have dovetails. My dad was a fine cabinet maker in UK and would have chastised me for buying a jig, but time is precious. Have been a week doing (bad) test pieces and trying to figure out how to make fine adjustments to no avail. NOW I see it clearly !! Being an ex machinist I pretty much live with a Vernier Caliper in my hand, have a set of feelers at hand, and deal in thou's not mubble meters. The light bulb went on when you HALVED the protrusion !. Now Im going to whip through this winter project in jig time and have some time left for the boat. Thanks !!
Insert it between the brass thumb wheel and the gray locator bracket for the top plate. It also depends which side you put the feeler gauge on considering whether you are trying to open the joint or tighten it up.

That's great news! Glad to hear you're making progress. I wish I had the patience to do dovetails with a chisel and mallet or hand saw.

What determines how deep to make the cut? I can't grasp the concept of determining that depth.
