I noticed that estimated arrival time was 1337, pretty leet :)
I am surprised to see that Leaf 62kwh is still more efficient than many of the newest EVs playing in the same league (price/range) despite being based on a 10 years old technology... IMHO some EVs manufacturers should be a little bit embarrassed for that.
It ain’t your grandma’s Leaf. It’s the latest version.
@@jeffbransky7966 Despite being a 2021 model year car, the chassis and ev technology is still the same Nissan launched in 2010 and developed years before 2010... Basically is the same car with a nice restyling. The only big difference (leaving exterior and interior design apart that does not affect efficiency) is the battery capacity and the engine which is now more powerful but thirstier... There is a lot information about this on the Internet.
@@fsb6406 That is completely wrong. xD They have change more or less everything over the years. even suspention and wheels. even the motor whent from induction to permanent magnets, making it kinda thirstier yes, but also with a ton more torque in high demand.
Can't wait for you to test the new Nissan Ariya. The only report we can trust.
12:12: BKK Danmarksplass have two 200A CHAdeMO charging stations. There are 20 DC stalls in total at that location.
38kWh Ioniq also uses PTC only when preheating. It's completely silent with radiator fan off. Heats real quick, though.
Leaf is still an excellent car. It has a reputation to get over, more due to the lack of support from Nissan. Leafs are incredibly reliable cars, superbly refined and smooth cars. I enjoy my mom's 2012 so much. Going back my Model 3 shows how loud and noisy the Model 3 is compared to the Leaf. Model 3 is a performance beast but it still has a long way to go in refinements and build. Good job @bjorn as always. #musenmusen
Just put the same tiny tires and the non-performance sloppy suspension from the leaf on the model 3 and be suprised how it also can be silent.
Totally agree with you. I bought a 24kWh Leaf for very little money, cheap as chips to run and 100% reliability after 3 years. Tesla? Forget it. Any repairs or problems, my neighbour's Tesla 3 has to be transported to a Tesla centre 150 km away!
Your videos are awesome. Your voice is extremely soothing.
Using PTC does make sense. Heat pump in colder environments does more work to gather heat energy because it is less of heat energy around. Therefore while standing still it is the least efficient way of using heatpump because radiator doesn't get as much ventilation as it would while moving.
Another thing is that a compreressor wears off while doing near 1:1 efficiency cpmpared with PTC.
And the third thing is that if a car has to dehumidify, it needs to chill intake air radiator and then warm the air up with a PTC.
I really loved the Leaf when I tried it, but I've had an issue with the driver's seat: it doesn't go as low as a fossil car, and the driving position wasn't comfortable.
I'm 6'4 (~197cm) and weigh around 120kg.
I settled for an ID.3 tech finally.
eNiro was spacios headroom wise, as well as the eSoul, RAV4 is a no-go due to the height of the roof, and c-hr was too crammed.
Thanks Bjorn!😊
Our eldest son is similar size and weight, he couldn't fit comfortably in the driver seat, too. One reason we didn't get an e+ Leaf. I liked driving the 40kWh Leaf, but only until it rapidgated :)
Hello Ph K,
I had the same problem two weeks ago when i was testing the leaf. i am 1,93 m tall and the mirror inside the car is too low mounted or the seat is not going down wide enough; you could read it in my test article, but its in german, so you maybe only can check the graphics :D
autofilou.at/2021-nissan-leaf-e-tekna-62-kwh-test-review/
It's a Japanese car after all. I think such dimensions were just inconceivable for Japanese engineers :D
197cm is close to 6'6
@@autofilou you know that you can lift the whole mirror construction right? I am 1.91 and this solved the problem
"The Canadians would be wearing t-shirts" LOL!
So on the fence about the leaf. Feels abit last gen. But allround it seems solid about everything. Got 1 week to decide before a great loan interest campaign ends.
We had this a year ago with wintersport vacation driving in germany. One big line with ev’s waiting to charge.. with crying kids in the back seat. The trip was already super long. And than much more extra time for charging. at that moment i was happy I didn’t have to do that.
The thermometer in the botton left of the screen is Schwarz Rot Gold. I like that. Ja!
Nice video, as always. :)
Good car, well done Nissan 👌
I was waiting for this.
That is the "new Leaf" with updated equipment. Can you do a review? (new camera in the mirror, etc). Thanks
Can't wait for - 21 test.
FYI, Ishavsveien in the North has 100kW chademo on most sites. ( The ones they built themselves).
As a Canadian, yes -1 is nothing, even in -10 or -15 I just wear a hoodie.
no u dont
I think it runs the ptc because it is faster. Heatpumps in General is not that efficient when it is really cold, thats one of the reasons to why you have an Electric hearing element as well in for example air-water heat pumps for your home. The pump i the can keep upp the heat somewhat but running the ptc when connected to the charger gives the heatpump a easier time and saves some wear.
Geilo test love it more than 1000km challenge
You are fair to the Leaf - so many dismiss it because they do not understand the limitations and how to live with them. There are 7 "100kW" CHAdeMO chargers near me (SF Bay) but only 200A x 500V, so Leaf+ gets about 77kW max on them, so disappointing but a result of Nissan's financial situation.
72 kW is max on Leaf.
Hi Björn, the Leaf used to be able of Vehicle to Grid functionality. Is this still so with the 62kWh Version. There are reports on YT about using it. Maybe you can get some information abot this topic, would be enough for a seperate video perhaps.
Thanks for your informativ and entertainig work.
Karl
I’m glad I’m not in the car with you after eating that burrito 😂
I wouldn't let you in my car anyway.
Great content as always 😁 I wouldn’t blame you for not letting me in your car 🤪
In Hong Kong this happens everyday, usually we have 3+ cars waiting for 1 50kw CCS. Now with the model 3 it’s even worse, gas price in Hong Kong is just too high.
Peugeot e-2008, the french Etron.
Interesting video and quite surprising data regarding PTC - heat pump use. May it start preheating with PTC and then gradually change to heat pump regardless of the fact of starting the car?. This could make sense to use the faster PTC heat first and then, as the heat pump reaches steady conditions, change to the more efficient heating mode. Are you sure the change betweet PTC and heat pump is triggered by starting the car and not by time?. I don't have one of these, so just wondering the reason behind that behaviour. Please, keep doing this great work!
Hei Bjørn, You should try charging at REMA 1000 Gol, they have 4 or 5 Delta chargers from BKK its pretty new, opened last fall. Great video as always 😀
Why?
I think it would have been nice to see some alternative charging locations apart from the regular ones, that you frequently uses.
Is this the Leaf that was provided for the NAF test?
Yes, it is.
The heatpump pulls from the main battery even when its plugged in, when the battery is at or close to 100% state of charge the battery cant receive much current, so when you preheat in winter your state of charge will go down due to the heater pulling more current then what the battery is able to recive, this is the case for most electric cars :)
Smart ForTwo test if you can my friend!
Leaf could be even more efficient, if the warm tubes of heating pump would be insulated in the engine compartment.
Björn, after a drive with heating on, open the hood and make a look inside with the infrared camera. Then you will see a lot of tubes are very hot. Nissan skimped on insulation.
Easy to do yourself. Was less than 2€ in materials. However savings are small. 100-150W only it seems.
@@douglasalanthompson 2 miles is already optimistic, you would be having to average about 12 miles/kWh to get close to 4 miles saved, Which is not a realistic value even in summer. (for a 40kWh car, 62 might get to a bit over 3)
Is it a 2020 Model? Can the steering wheel be adjusted in and out / up and down? Would love to see, how much it can be adjusted. Are you allowed to go out? How is it with the lockdown in Oslo?
Thanks for the video. I know there are different standards for the recharge plug. Is it a problem with the Leaf ?
Bjørn do you know the effect of charging a battery 30 min before driving in the cold when car stayed outside overnight without charging ? I figured a trick with my bmw i3, to plug it in 30 min before I drive to get the battery to start charging a while before driving and that seems to give me better range as battery somewhat heats up a bit while charging for those 30 min. It would be interesting doing this test in the cold with different cars and how they behave driving in the cold with 30 min charging before driving.
Das ist nicht Coldgate. Das ist Ladegeschwindigkeitbegrenzung! 😁
@14:27, the early Leaf had a smaller battery which uses air cooling. The newer 62kwh battery has a liquid cooling system with better temperature management. Maybe the BMS kicks in so as to not over heat the already warm battery during charging.
Are you sure that the 62kwh leaf has liquid cooling?
The 62 kWh doesnt have liquid cooling. It will overheat in the summer on long trips. (Rapidgating)
Incorrect. None of the Leaf ever had any active cooling. The only exception is e-NV200.
Dealership even told me that nv200 doesn't have any battery cooling but I doubt their knowledge or there are two versions
I'll take Bjorn's advice, not Nissan dealers.
My leaf dosen't blow hot air when the car is "on" but not in the mode where you can drive. It's weird. But now I guess it has to be an A/C or PTC issue.
Probably a/c needs a glass refill
How does the prices of EV's compare to Fossil fuel vehicles in Norway and how much of the price is subsidized if at all? Just curious. In my country there is hardly any EV's and government has no incentives, in fact they tax them quite heavily since they are all imports so the cheapest Nissan Leave compares in price to between a Toyota RAV 4 and a Fortuner. Even a Prius falls in this price range.
Norway has 100% tax on petrol/diesel cars, slightly reduced for Hybrids. EV’s at present avoid this tax and also have reduced yearly ownership tax. Thus the popularity of EV’s in Norway! Of course the government will adjust in time as they potentially lose billions of tax revenues....
Is the leaf worth €365.00 per month? I can have it private lease for that price. But i also heard not great things about it. Bad charging time.. much lower range than factory said. Air cooled battery.
Improvement for Geilo/going-to-the-hytta test: actually going to the Hytta!
500m climb at the end, driving on shiiiitty roads, in 20cm snow/sludge, mistaking skisporet for the road, hiding the car tags in shame, charge from photovoltaic, heating up the cabin to 30° and enjoy some hytteKos!

Conclusion: LEAF for Winter, Model 3 for Summer ;-)
Model 3 works great for winter too. What are you talking about?
@@bjornnyland no cold gate? no power restriction? :D
Could you repeat this test in an eNV200 24kwh in this cold weather condition
Efficiency is a key metric on an EV, and many of the new models fall down compared to Nissan, Hyundai/Kia and Tesla.
When follows the test of the ford mustang electric
Is it arrived in Europe? For now I see only American RUclips channel speaking of it

Lol canadians in Tshirts...its the same weather here so light windbreaker works
@Wilson Lam usually I would agree...tmrw major snowfall of 20cm
Is the reason for having no 200A Chademo plugs because they cost much more to install than 200A CCS plugs?
@@douglasalanthompson There are more 125amp ones than 200amp in the US.
Prehating with a heatpump is annoying if the car is parked outside your bedroom window. I'd prefer (a thirstier) PTC heater than a noisy heatpump outside my house in the morning
if you can hear that from your window then i think you should fix your house first. will also help save money on your bills.
Still no active cooling on the Leaf is beyond belief! One of the reasons I decided against getting one. Fixing that on the Ariya I understand, but why has it taken them so long?
they had no money for it. but now they do. with there new merger they are all sharing the same platform. so out comes the Ariya.
the thing people don't get, like it or not, the leaf it designed to work without active BMS, they even said so. Upsides, in colder climates, it's not an issue if u do under 800 km roadtrips often, which Japan is. The car is made for niece people who live in the case, and as Björn says, the 62 kwh works, if u live in a colder climate. If u don't, don't buy one it's that simple.
Can you test the EQC with 19" wheels? :-) It's becoming more popular as Mercedes actually delivers the vehicles :-)
7:20 I love his humor lmaoooo
@11:15, and the winner is Tesla -model 3, again.
Very different outside air temps though.
Look at row 2. Very similar winter conditions. Model 3 is in a completely different league.
Hallo Björn wie geht's?
Did you increase the bitrate or something? The video looks so clear, or does it come from the new camera?
New camera.
7:28 LMAO this guy is jokes
I thought that this Leaf has a cooling fan. Is this correct?
No

Don't have some normal good italian food?
You have to do the Geilo-test with e-soul 64 kwh battery, you never completed the test :-)
No need to. e-Niro is almost the same car.

Orange juice and a burrito??😳
Hello tesla, go to your supercharger, OK.
I'm waiting for an electric car where they'll mount food heater so you can eat something warm while charging. Hmm in EVs microwave should be in standard :D
the Honda E from a rental service björn tested had a microwave oven in the trunk (put there by the rental service). Can't remember the name of the rental service, unfortunately.
Classic - putting mexicans in your mouth :D
BTW - nice haircut Bjorn! :)
So this car is useless with Chadamo
Yo what's up 😁
Have you tried the Renault Zoe ZE50?
Yes, check out my channel.
@5:04, What? A Norwegian church? I thought they all went bankrupt.
Norwegian burrito? Made with salmon?
I wanted to see that burrito...
Next time
Seems the nav can’t spell ‘circle k’ as well, haha
Leaf would be totally fine car if it moved to CCS and actie cooling.
~ 51kWh available :-/ same scam as other leafs, only 83% of rated capacity. E-niro 64 has ~30% more energy and more energy efficient
