      then later klara says he didn't do anything because she wanted him to be his teacher again, and it doesn't matter if klara never lied before, if she's lying and they believe it they'd be letting a pedophile off the hook. not to mention how affected the mother was by it, and the father was only willing to believe klara after months of thinking and watching lucas going through it

    As someone who was falsely accused of sexual harassment by a high school peer who I barely knew at 14, I have to say that his performance is extremely accurate and relatable from what I had to go through back then.

    • @alexanderdahoola8188
      @alexanderdahoola8188 4 года назад +12

      @Ar D Also, were you accused of sexual harassment by mistake or did someone do it intentionally because say they were upset that as a teacher you didn't give them good grades? Was the accusation accidental or intentional?

    • @alexanderdahoola8188
      @alexanderdahoola8188 4 года назад +11

      @ Well? Wouldn't you say in THIS film it is at least SOMEWHAT that? I mean, the girl herself didn't actually say he did anything to her, and certainly not intentionally in order to get him into all sorts of troubles portrayed in the movie, but the teacher and that psychologist, who interviewed her with leading questions and just got her to say "yes" to all, took it to be true without further investigation and questioning and the whole town bought into it and thus we all saw what happens.
      By accidental accusation I also meant something along the lines of how a person, most likely a child, uttered a few words for whatever reasons and pointed a finger at the "responsible party" and people easily believed it and doomed it to be true. Like, maybe someone who accused them did not MEAN it or mean to get the person in trouble, and there was a MISUNDERSTANDING of sorts, but it still lead to suspicions and troubles, or maybe, someone accused the WRONG person but that hardly describes accidental accusation.

    • @alexanderdahoola8188
      @alexanderdahoola8188 4 года назад +7

      Even if most false accusations, however few compared to ACTUAL abuse or even in GENERAL, probably happen NOT by accident indeed and are planned and INTENTIONAL. In the 1967 movie "Les risques du metier" ("Risks of the Profession"), the young girls actually accused the teacher there of sexual misconduct against them INTENTIONALLY, not "by accident" like say inappropriately uttering a few words because someone said it and they heard it etc and have authorities believe it and point fingers at the accused party like in this movie, but it was actually a PLANNED act, and watch the movie to find out why they did it etc.

    • @alexanderdahoola8188
      @alexanderdahoola8188 4 года назад +16

      @ The thing is though, and if you watch the film closely you would notice and realize this too, the reason she said those things was not because she actually intended to accuse him of molesting her like that, rather, she was upset of her rejection of him and said she didn't like him and then repeated that stuff about the "rod that stands up" based on what her brother's friend has shown her on that Ipad of his (it was sort of like saying words to insult or to cuss someone, but with that other connotation attached to it) and the head of school has misconstrued it to mean that and the other male psychologist has basically used an incorrect "leading questions" technique, and with the girl only being six years old who has no idea and knowledge of such things, one would be rather 'incorrect' to say the accusation in this case was "100% intentional".
      Especially as later when she started to notice what it was that happened as a result, with Lucas being rejected and attacked and all, she kept saying how he didn't do anything bad to her but the adults were convinced that "no - it did happen" and that "she was just trying to block the traumatic memory of the event".
      Its like, imagine a slightly different scenario, if I said, as a joke, that someone was trying to kill me and someone heard me and as a result shot that person, but I had NO intention whatsoever of having that person suffer for ANY reasons, selfish or otherwise, but they thought I was right and they killed that individual, was my "accusation" intentional or accidental?

    • @alexanderdahoola8188
      @alexanderdahoola8188 3 года назад +5

      @ Also, whilst opinions on the young child's "guilt" are highly divided, as evident in forums' comments sections all over the internet, most intelligent people, and rightly so, believe the child was not exactly "guilty" and "to blame for what happened" even if she did utter those words and as a result, a chain of events was set and Lucas had to suffer from mob mentality-oriented vigilante "justice" in his town.
      Yet adults were really determined and wanted for it to be true at all costs that they didn't even doubt or investigate further and even when the girl said that he didn't actually do anything bad and made it up, nobody believed her.
      And then loads of other kids kept telling same story etc etc etc.

      Dukes Videos
      No, it's not related to The Hunt in any way, except for the somewhat similar subject matter. Basically, Atonement is a really good film (based on an even better book) that's from the perspective of a 13-year old girl who made a false accusation against someone, and you see how that affects her for the rest of her life as she gets older and begins to truly understand what actually happened - the guilt, the remorse, the need to atone (hence the title), etc. (I'm being intentionally vague here, because it's best to know as little as possible before seeing it.)
      It's got Keira Knightley, Saoirse Ronan, James McAvoy & Benedict Cumberbatch in it, so it's well-acted too.

    I just wanted to point out that even I, an amateur in child psychology, know that you are not supposed to imply an answer and nudge children in the assumed direction. When the counselor or whatever he was was asking Klara questions, he clearly handled it quite poorly. Klara clearly hated to be called a liar so she just went along with whatever he was saying. I really hope this is not how things work in the real world. Great movie though, illogicality aside.

This kind of nudging is quite popular in the US (and no doubt other places as well obviously) to get all kinds of answers out of people of all ages. This kind of thing really happened at a day care business in California ( 20 yrs. ago) with the entire school staff accused of child abuse.All were found innocent after a lengthy investigation.But they suffered horribly. Dude, it didn't just happen in California, it happened eeeeeeverywhere in the U.S. and even elsewhere in the Anglosphere. The witch hunt came to my little Florida hometown and put my brother and my friends' pre-school teacher in jail. He was accused of flying around the room on a broomstick while molesting children with crucifixes in a basemen beneath the school (Florida buildings have no basements). He was accused of flying kids out to Mexico during the school day (from Florida) to have the children molested by Mexican soldiers, then flown back before parents came to pick their kids up. Children were encouraged by "psychologists" to let their imaginations run free and create all manner of absurd accusations. When I hear myself recount the accusations, it sounds completely bizarre and unbelievable. And not only that, I remember sitting on the porch with my friend as he recounted the various things the psychologists encouraged him to say--- and what's crazier is that he even began to believe it, until he grew up and realized it was all non-sense.
      My brother's teacher would be exonerated and released from jail... after a 20 year sentence he didn't deserve. Thankfully, my own parents saw it for what it was, and refused to let anyone talk to my brother about it for fear that they would plant these thoughts in his head.
      I'm someone who is really great with kids, but that incident forever convinced me that I should never work with kids.

    I disagree with many people in this comment section. Klara knew perfectly well that she was lying. She was not inocent at all. She was angry at Lucas because he refused the gift that she had made for him. She wanted to tell a lie to cause him problems in some way or another. I remember when I was a little girl. I have good feelings, I was innocent in the fact that I didn’t know many things about the world but I had bad feelings too, and certainly I was not morally perfect or angelic.I lied many times to my parents, I wanted to seek revenge for the most silly things.

    This was an excellent film. The acting is just insanely on point. You actually feel this mans pain but you feel the little girls guilt about how one fib has snowballed into something that he cannot stop.
    You even know that her father doubts that it’s true and the mother ( who is Mads real life wife) is played brilliantly.
    This performance is in his top five.
    Actually it’s difficult for me to think of many male actors that can be so incredibly vulnerable,thoughtful and raw with themselves as he has been. I also notice that he just takes projects that he finds highly interesting.Some are low scale independent and others are of a bigger budget. Regardless... I discovered him after watching the first of the Pusher Trilogy.He was flawless and also added a very human depth to a kind of slimy character. He is superb in the second,which we see who he really is and why he became that way. We actually root for him as he has a heart and protective nature towards his son. It’s the only one that ends with a feeling that he has a much better soul then the others in his life. We also see that he wants a better life for this baby son of his.
    Every two years we go to watch all three of the Pusher Trio at the University of Saskatchewan theatre in Saskatoon. We all agree that the second is the best and most developed in terms of character .

    "This is what happens when people jump to conclusions. Lives get ruined."
    That's what happens when people lie. The girls can't be really blamed for all this because she does not understand what she did. But for example when the mother actually convinces her girl that it did happen. Now what would happen if a mother did that in a custody battle out of spite and just because she's evil; convince her kids that their father hurt them and abused them and it was so terrible that they just can't remember? Everyone including his family would grow up hating him and for nothing. That shit happens.

    I watched the movie in 2013 and rewatched it again in 2024. This time due to me adulting, it hit me way harder. The performance of Mads Mikkelsen is terrific. The story is so deprived of useless melodrama, the lack of music in the background, everything about it was absolutely brilliant. I cannot stop thinking about it and how unfair some situations may be, destroying one's life. I wanted to put myself in the shoes of Lucas and just scream and scream how it's all a bull*hit.
    The atmosphere the movie portrays is so hopeless for everyone. For Lucas, for his best friend, for the principle of the kindergarden, for the little kid who was so small that it didnt had the dictionary to put its thoughts in actual words...
    And lastly I might say I've watch most of Mad's movies, but this role.. This role is the top of his career so far. At least for me.

    This story touched all of our hearts because it is very realistic and may happen to anyone,
    it all started with the HEART gift and the refused kisses, Lucas was so kind with kids and one of these kids(Klara) loved him and she made a gift and gave him a kiss,, he didn't accept it , and advice her to give the kisses to her parents and the gift for a friend, she didn't take it well, and felt anger and that what makes her lie.
    Lucas treated unjust because of many accumulated mistakes
    - the child (Klara)
    -the Investigation of The nursery
    -Klara's parents dealt
    -the society
    after the matter got bigger than what Klara thought, she couldn't expose her Lying, she didn't wants to be called liar, the Investigation of The nursery made her think she is in a bad situation and the only way out is keep Lying.. Even though she said the truth, they did not accept it because it's not the truth they want to hear, so they put pressure on her by not letting her leave the room without speaking of their assumption. I'm sure the issue would be over before it started if they give the kid an ensure that whatever she said she won't be in trouble, her parents didn't take the unstable tell story seriously, they focused on the bad part and ignored the other good part, If the child say something they don't want to believe they will simply say "she is just a kid" but that kid will suddenly become a grown if he spoke of what they want to hear
    and the society trying to punish twice for the same mistake even before they sure about it

    I think we didn't see the whole story in this movie, the kid must have seen such a scene somewhere else, maybe from a video accidentally from his brother's room, we saw the kid did see a picture from her brother, that was the beginning of her imagination to create such story, but that picture wasn't enough for her to make such story, the adults handled it very poorly by pushing the story to the kid. and the kid's imagination took the rest. this movie is a lesson on how to interrogate a kid in the wrong way.
    And yes kids at such ages usually don't lie, they learn it later. but this kid was an exception, we saw how she had a wild imagination and loss of memory at the beginning of the movie.
    This movie broke my heart. one of those movies that leave you with anger after finishing watching the movie.

    I always wondered what Jurgen Klopp had been up to before he joined Dortmund - and now I know!
    On a serious note though, how sad was this story? And how much of a spine did his sons godfather have whilst the rest of the town went mental at Lukas?

    When cases like this happens, even when proven innocent, there will still be those who no longer believe you. Because unlike in movies where the audience can see and know what actually happened, in real life that is not possible and no one will know for sure what actually happened because often times, evidence, testimonies and investigations can and have always been manipulation so there will be people who lean on to the final outcomes and those that believe the result was biased. The person's life sadly will never be normal again.

    The Sad thing is that we can do nothing about it. This movie can be used by rapists as a cover, This movie can also be used to show people what it feels like to be falsely accused.
    The only thing that we can do is to not jump at conclusions too quickly. Klara tells that she lied multiple times but her parents didn't want to change their perspective.

      I think this is the whole point. The movie is telling people to be smart. Don't believe everything on the media. Don't believe one side story too quick before another side story comes out.

      The problem is when people start to think they can never rock the boat.
      Whether that’s against the accused or the alleged victim.

      Exactly because children are angel and everything that comes out of their mouth are god speaking through them.

      Yes because if a child says that they were sexually molested, then we shouldn’t take their words seriously and assumed that they are all liars. That’s not the best message to send to children.

    Excellent movie! Very thought and heart provoking! Thought provoking because I wouldn't know how to react if I had a kid say their teacher or another adult touched them inappropriately, and I wouldn't know if it was a lie or not; I mean how could you tell? I hope I wouldn't jump to conclusions, and that I would investigate a little before I react, but it would be hard not to be angry. When you come upon that information, you would immediately want to hurt the person for doing that to your child. It was heart provoking because I felt bad for the guy because his whole life was ruined from a lie. All of the actors did a great job. Amazing film!

    Having faced false accusations of s.xual abuse on my own 4yo son by my ex-wife, and having suffered harsh consequences, I don't think I'd be able to watch that movie. Yet, thank you Thomas Vinterberg for this movie ❤

      Ankit Saiyan innocence can also mean ignorance but ignorance is not the same as innocence.The fact that wrong was done without intent does not excuse that wrong has been done or reverse the damage already dealt.
