Also, I don't have an up to date modern smart phone... so... it's a big mystery to me... how am I going to register either of these cameras. I tried to download the Insta360 android app to my phone the other day and it said... nope... not compatible.. Very similar to insta360. Just connect usb c to your pc. The qoocam will ask if you want to use u-disk transfer mode. Then the qoocam will act like a usb thumb drive. Copy all files to your hard drive. Then open the files in qoocam studio 2.0. In Studio you can auto track or keyframe movements, etc. then you export directly or to a queue. If you do a queue then you can render all on your queue automatically while you have lunch or dinner or something.

Could you please provide a seld shot sample video, preferrably one outdoor walking in a rather quiet environment and one indoor (since nobody showed indoor videos) in 8k360 pls? :)
As the qoocam 3 it looks like the ultra overexposes by at least 1 stop blowing out the highlights. One thing I really hate is that they have a maximum 150mbps data rate. They're pushing 25% more data on bitrate with 10-bit, but they have 25% less bitrate than the x4 8bit. They really need to create an optional software unlock for those of us with high quality memory cards to really be able to create better captures. And a triple woof on the rendering times. Qoocam studio processing footage from the 3 even a month ago would bring my PC to a halt on any other work because it would max out the threads without any way to tell it to only use say only 90% of system resources so I could at least browse the web while rendering without stuttering on my 32 thread 128GB ram rendering desktop.
@@360vroomers I don't think it's you. I ran into the same issue on the qoocam 3. To be fair though I have to lower the x3/x4 by 0.7 stops and gopro 11/12's by at least 0.5 stops in most situations. In fact with the x3/x4 in some situations like recording a show in a theater with bright stage and dark audience I have to lower the x3/x4 by 3 to 4 stops or just set it manual because it seems like 360 cameras tend to either average exposure across the full 360 or tries to expose based off of of any large dark areas leaving bright areas completely unusable due to extreme blow out. I've suggested to insta360 to allow selecting an exposure point in software, but it's so far fallen on deaf ears. The problems with the averaged auto exposure on 360 outside of theaters is that during times like sunset you end up getting tons of color banding in recovery or have your sky blown out. It could also be fixed with allowing custom log curves like gopro has through labs, but alas that is another request that has fallen on deaf ears. Hopefully more people will request it because I can't tell you how many times labs bitrate and log curves has helped save footage that would be bad/worse without the manually unlocked features. As a side note I really appreciate your work and please keep it up!

Yes it is possible but there would be very little benefit. You would need to use qoocam studio to stitch the ultra video into a 360 video then import that 360 video into insta360 studio for keyframing or Al tracking. @@MrMaryhinge thanks! The ultra is far more polished than the qoocam 8k. Moreover, they have been improving the ultra at a rapid pace. For example, the 2.8 version was made just a week after the 2.7 release. Having said that, kandao is a much smaller company than insta360. Although ultra is the most polished kandao camera I’ve tried, it still has minor bugs like the camera crashing (rarely). I still brought it with me to a trip to Japan and so far it has been my primary camera. But if you want 99.9999% no bugs (as opposed to 99.0% for example), I would wait maybe 6 months or a year.

@360vroomers Hm not even a bit? Since even slight clatter would also destroy the audio :/. I already ordered one some time ago. Furthermore I am not sure if it can hold so much more weight over its spec...
@@360vroomers Twice the weight is probably the biggest flaw, especially for motovlog, extreme sport and 3m selfie stick. Even with bigger and havier body, it can pack only a little better capability than an X4. I seriously doubt a max2 now. Hopefully it has at least 1/1.5 sensor.
On insta360 extended selfie stick v2, I recommend not using the last / thinnest segment. I also would not wave it with a lot of force such as bouncing while mounted on a car exterior.
Another solid review! I saw the comment about purple fringing. Would you be willing to share some of your DNG files so I could check them out and manipulate them on my own computer? I want to see how significant the issue really is.
Did I read somewhere that the Qoocam is twice the weight of the X4? LOL, what kind of mount can handle that extra weight with vibrations from cycling and other sports. Not to mention trying to hold something like that with a selfie stick 🥹.
The exact weight w battery is 336 grams. If you notice, my wrist was bent from the weight of carrying both the x4 and ultra. But by itself, it’s not bad even on a 5ft long selfie stick.
Thank you again for another detailed, objective and impartial video. Qoocam's product is physically much thicker. Won't this always make stitching imperfect and noticeable?
Thanks! The thickness isn’t a major factor. For example, one RS 1-inch 360 is thicker than the ultra. The more tricky issue is that the lenses are offset, which is harder to stitch. But with the new software, the stitching has looked pretty good. Just need to be more mindful of the stitch line and don’t put anything important close to the camera along the stitch line.
I was lucky. Just bought a new regular qoocam 3 for 200 euros from amazon. Planning to use it or vacation and nature walks. The quality is good enough and in the future if necessary I can use AI upscaling in it, but it seems to work just fine. Only problem with it is the stitching is not the best but I can live with it.
It still looks like the X4 edges out the Qoocam because of design and editing workflow. Its great to see some competition though. My prediction is that gopro will put out the Max2 that will be just as crisp as the qoocam 3 ultra, 10 bit, but it will be $499-$550. We shall see.
Thanks Eric. Yes it’s a question of image quality vs usability. Both are excellent cameras with no glaring weaknesses. As for max 2, I’m looking forward to it as well. I hope gopro spent their research money wisely.
Hi, great comparison thank you for your work. I heard that all 5.7k modes on qoocam 3 ultra utilise downsampling from 8k. Even the 60 fps mode. It would be really interesting to compare quality of this two cameras at 5.7k 60 fps.

The colors on the ultra look pretty off. Perhaps can be corrected but that seems like a lot of work. Also purple fringing is pretty bad. Perhaps the lens just isn't that great. Oh well I will see when mine arrives because I did order one in a lack of impulse control haha.
@@SpaklesDr congrats getting ultra. re ultra’s colors, i disagree. Imho they are more similar to the actual colors. Ditto re colors of grass and trees etc. And if you don’t like ultra’s colors, i have found them easier to adjust bec the video is 10bit (pls note i am not a colorist). Re fringing, qoocam studio has a defringing checkbox, which reduces it.
Why doesn't anyone say that the Qoocam Ultra are essentially without the HDR mode? It is there, but it only works with 10-bit color, and Quest 2, for example, does not support 10-bit, only 8-bit, and not only Quest 2. So for 360 video Qoocam Ultra there is no hdr mode
Actually that’s not true. The hdr video mode of X4 works through quad bayer sensor using subpixels with a darker exposure. The qoocam ultra also has this HDR mode. In addition, qoocam can shoot in 10bit HLG.
@@360vroomers I'm sorry, I didn't see the HDR in Qoocam Ultra settings, there is only Dynamic Range and it doesn't work if you don't switch to 10-bit color.

I've been watching 8K 360 videos in the Quest 3 shot with the X4 and 3 Ultra and what I have noticed that distant faces look completely distorted in the X4 videos. Also other distant objects like trees look over sharpened.
Feedback, I desperately want 10 bit Video, I have the X4, will buy another 360 camera but two things that have put me off, battery life, and the stitching still doesn’t look good enough. A secondary issue is the software, so close, but it’s just not quite, good enough to take my easily given money.
@@Coatsey007 I can understand. I think it really depends on how important image quality is for you. If it is very important, then you might overlook these foibles. Also, fyi ultra will be selling extra batteries, and a very slim charger case.

Thanks a lot for your review! :) I am a bit disappointed that you did not say a word (and did not tested it) about the internal fan, the spatial audio that is also stabilized etc.
In ordinary usage I couldn’t hear the fan. I only hear it on long recordings in quiet indoor environments. The Spatial Audio is very nice for 360 video but I don’t usually do 360 videos (I care more about reframed video). Even in reframed video, the sound will change depending on how you keyframe it.
@@360vroomers Thank you! :) So you don't hear it indor for short recordings, doing images etc? I am so sad...I was so hyped for this cam, the support promised to fix this before arrival, they released Stitching Software V2.8 but still the same issue it seems. PS: Your app doesn't work too... I am connected as described with the cam but no live feed even though I can watch the thumbnails of saved videos (but I can't play them) - Galaxy S21 Ultra. What a pity. ---- Besides that I can confirm that the fan is running for 13-16min without audible fan noise (fan always on but inaudible at lowest setting if more then 50cm away). After that it kicks in quite loud so all ambisonic recordings ruines but lavalier with noise cancelling should still work. Hope the recording time with silent fan can be increased some day (not by changing the temp limit, this us already crazy hot). But yeah...the thing I was scared most was no real issue. But not beeing able to record handheld while moving the camera converts it to a photo camera or stationary video camera only. And for that the quality is not good enough (even with your 0,5gb large dng files or AEB). --- For Reframing the disturbed image is annoying but not thaaat much of an deal I guess (?)... but for VR you get motion sick instantly.

Hi choppergirl. The Qoocam Studio software is similar to Insta360 Studio:
1. load the photos and videos.
2. If you want to reframe a video, click on the dropdown box and choose reframe.
3. In the reframe screen, you can click on AI Track to track any subject or...
4. Keyframe: drag the screen, scroll to zoom, and click the keyframe button to add a keyframe.
5. Just like Insta360 Studio, you'll find options on the right side for changing the stitching mode, or the stabilization mode.
6. When you're done adding keyframes, click export button on the bottom right. Choose your preferred export options and either add to queue or export directly.
@@360vroomers Someone needs to cover it, because all the Qoocam review videos seem to entirely leave the workflow in the Qoocam software... suspiciously... out.
Maybe it's expected you do this in your own video editor program, but my old video editor can't do that... so it'd have to be done in the camera software first.
Also, I don't have an up to date modern smart phone... so... it's a big mystery to me... how am I going to register either of these cameras. I tried to download the Insta360 android app to my phone the other day and it said... nope... not compatible.. Android 7 and 11 is too old, or your phones hardware specs... not up to our requirements.
So these things kind of need to be covered in a video right off the bat before a buyer... is going to buy because... the big question is always going to be for a buyer... can I even get this thing to work for me? With what I have for hardware.. and software.
Hello, what is the workflow to transfer the internal files from the Ultra3 to your computer using the usb c cable? thanks

I think maybe I’m not converting the rec2020 HLG properly to rec709. I will upload unedited samples so you can see for yourself.

Besides that I can confirm that the fan is running for 13-16min without audible fan noise (fan always on but inaudible at lowest setting if more then 50cm away). Yes there’s some fringing. There’s also a defringe option in the desktop app.
@@360vroomers good to know.
v Europe cena 669,- Euro + batéria 41,-euro... neviem , ak sa Kandao stránka správa , akoby všetko len skúšali - nie všetko funguje ako sa patrí... aj zľavový kód za "subscripe" NEFUNGUJE...
70% of the clip I was watching your face instead of camera bayot!!
I don’t understand what is camera bayot but thanks for watching!
very good video

Thanks Eugene!
Does not take much to dethrone the trash that instacrap put out. It was never good and tbh no one was on top as subpar products are just that. I have been thrashing on insta360 before it was cool and all the clowns were getting resell links and pushing instas x4. It was never good, it still sucks after the update, and the Qoocam was my anticipated camera. Sadly, like the X4 no one has provided pure raw 360 files which is what I use it for. I don't reframe, pointless for what I need it for. However, if the noise is removed and they fix their color science and that purple hue in the sky... And the jello effect in timelapse.. then it could be on top.
tekli videolarda çekim yapan cihazın adını belirtseydiniz keşke. boktan olmuş... bir şey anlamadım
if you know how to read, the names of the cameras were written on the bottom left and bottom right. 😂

it is too obvious you have been paid by qoocam.....so next time you make some comparison video like this...try hard not to be shown you are sold...ok???
Lol i wasn't paid by either company. If you watch the video, you can see that i pointed out x4's advantages.
xnoeccbux is just an X4 fanboy and it hurts his feelings that his camera doesn't stack up anymore 😂 He'll be even more sad when the GoPro Max 2 drops.
@xnoeccbux sorry, but that's really stupid comment.
@@thomza I’m very curious about GoPro’s next 360 camera. I hope they did their homework. It’s do or die for GoPro imho.
@@360vroomersGoPro would need to put a metric shittonne into their editing software in order to come close to Insta360. I'm mean insta360 has its faults, bit their free software is pretty fucking good.
