Great video guys. I'm a 25 year auto tech, and what I've learned is that I still have alot to learn. I've had my 78 maxi in custom resto form for 14 years. It was my daily for 3. The gearing and clutch engagement was never right for intersections or pulling steep hills. I finally got in there to see what was what and found first gear clutch material disintegrated. Also found puck material crumbled. Not to mention second gear clutch spring was sprung! I ordered the first gear treat clutch and malossi springs, and a used second gear clutch. Haven't received shipment yet, and I'm glad cause y'all got some great pointers on this one! Thanks! I'm down here in Maryland. I hope to check out your shop one day!
When I replaced the pucks on my most recent ZA, the old pucks EXPLODED into a crumbled mess when I took that assembly apart. It was quite the surprise lol.
Yeah; it's a good feeling when find the crumbled pucks because it means that your replacement efforts and costs are "worth it." We tend to find that they are either there and look fine OR are absolutely obliterated, very little in between . We had hoped we'd come across a crumbled set for the sake of the video; but ya get what ya get with mopeds, lol.
@@DetroitMopedWorks I just collected almost 100% of the factory Puch tools and have piles of these motors lying around to be rebuilt maybe this is the year
Very helpful video. I managed to take off the first gear, clutch cover, and first clutch no problem. When it came to the second clutch it didn’t seem to want to move so I didn’t mess with it. Is it tied into the ignition side? I noticed you guys have everything removed from the other side in this video. Do you have to remove everything from the starter/electrical side in order to pull out the rest of the transmission?
My 70t first gear is missing one tooth and I can’t find one in stock anywhere. Am I safe to run with one missing tooth? It happened removing the gear the wrong way.
What are your thoughts on Treats 2nd gear locking tools? I flipped 2nd and haven't had any issues, but just found out about this and MA has some threads of people saying you should absolutely use the tool... Did I f up? lmao
I'm not disagreeing with you, but the vertical shots are ideal for Facebook and Instagram mobile users and that's primarily where our viewers are right now. If we can make RUclips a successful venture worth our time, I'll be able to convince Alex to maybe rerecord these (*hint hint, like, share and subscribe*) - Becky, DMW Admin

Thank you for the za explanations. Much appreciated
Glad it was helpful! This is probably our most requested video.

If you film another video vertically I’m going to consider it a crime against humanity
