We tackled assembling the bike as a family project. ruclips.net/user/postUgkxzg0clhbtRf2gGxPkVETFKJJKGqdsorQu The package is heavy, but I have 2 teen boys that were able to move it. The written instructions were great- we didn't need to watch the videos, but it was good knowing that the option was there if we needed it. After we were able to get it set up, the boys each rode 3 miles and I rode 8 and the bike stayed quiet. The display is easy to reset, and you can put it on whichever setting you are using (time, distance, calories, etc). I will say that my butt is a little sore from the seat, but that could be because I haven't rode in a while. While it is comfortable for me, it was not comfortable with the seat position for my friend (could not move the seat back far enough and he slightly looked like a kid riding a tricycle that he had outgrown). He also said that the seat hurt his manly parts. We are going to look for a different seat that will be compatible with this bike for him.I did purchase the Wahoo Cadence sensor and strapped it to the crank of one of the pedals. This will sync with my Apple Watch, iPhone and will import data in to my Health app. Wahoo does have other sensors available other than cadence. I can also keep either my phone or my iPad on the display and they both feel pretty secure.
Madhavi Patel Yes they do. I just removed them from my IC4. It was delivered two days ago and both myself (5’11) and wife (5’2) complained of our knees hitting the water bottle holders. We have ours in the garage with my work bench less than a foot away. For now we’ll keep the water bottle on the workbench.
I have the Schwinn IC4. I LOVE it. I use the Peloton App with it for my workouts. I don’t regret buying the bike or paying for the Peloton subscription.
Don't get a felt friction resistance pad! They are glued on and will fail immediately or much quicker. Just read the reviews on Amazon and consider sales on other bikes like echelon.
Sadly people that have it (at least people I know) do not know about WATT workout. Spinning by itself do not give the results you want. But if you base your cycle workout on WATT you will get those results you want.
Thanks for this video! After watching it, I followed your advice and got a stationary spin bike and accessories. I also discovered someone named Kaileigh Cohen. She is enthusiastic and her videos are free on RUclips.
Great video!!! Hope I’ll find a follow up video so I can keep nerding out on all the possible solutions you provided. Love the old mtb shoes. I had the same pair second hand they finally fell apart after about 20 years of abuse 😮. They were a different color pallet probably your colors are much stronger.
I also went Schwinn. But the upgraded to the Power SC Schwinn which includes 4iiii cadence and the upgrade Echelon Power Console (no battery required). This one does not have the magnet on the wheel however, it's completely silent, unlike what you mention in the video. Although the Echelon does not work with the Ant++ feature for Apple Products; it just means my iWatch/iPhone doesn't track the mileage from the bike. I did not like the IC version as I wanted a smooth spin. It was a personal preference. It works well with the Peloton app, and other apps. The warranty and quality of workmanship/materials is eons better than the peloton. But I paid for it. Total Cost $3500 for the bike and set up. Technology will change, but the spin bike will still be working 10 years from now. :). Thanks for the review!
Really helpful video! If you have the Schwinn IC4 do you still need those extra accessories? My understanding is that the Schwinn IC4 has a cadence sensor which can be detected by the Peloton app but a separate heart rate monitor is needed. Can you confirm?
No need for anything extra if you have an IC4. The bike comes with a heart rate monitor band (just pair it with your ipad/iphone rather than the bike itself). And the IC4 has a cadence sensor built in that pairs with the app as well
Thanks very good video and good tips. I am amazed that Peloton classes is not focused on power and watts. Cadence and heart rate are not measure of improvements in cycling. I have been spinning for 20 yrs and the use of power is critical for improvement. Cadence is totally useless because you can peddle fast without any weight on the wheels, it wont do anything to your health.
Thanks, great video. I was about to order Peleton but love the diversity and quality of this bike, after checking both Schween IC4 and Bowflex C6 that has minor improvements from IC4 I went with Bowflex C6. Can't wait to start riding. Cheers.
Sebo It’s awesome to see someone else has decided to try the C6. I am currently waiting on mine to arrive. Peloton prices is what made my decision for Bowflex. Please keep us updated on your experience.
Thank you for this informative video! Why do we need a heartrate monitor if most bikes come with one? Are the ones on bikes less accurate? I'm looking for a solution to use with Zwift.
if the bike you buy comes with a heart rate monitor (e.g. IC4), no need to buy another one. As long as it's bluetooth, it should work with most apps on Apple, Android etc.
Great video..trying to get my wife to exercise more but she hates my airdyne echo bike, who does not right? So with this bike I can get all the peloton workouts and classes for $12 a month?? Also you mentioned the peloton app has other workouts like strengh and conditioning, yoga, lifting etc, etc.. so these other workouts are not biking workouts right, they are just different workouts you can access in case you don't feel like biking? Do the strengh and conditioning workouts or other workouts include any weights, barbells, kettlebells etc, etc? Sorry for all the questions. Thank u
You haven’t mentioned the fact that you are not able to be part of a live class this way, only on demand. To me it wasn’t important when I did this setup 2 years ago, but might be helpful to mention. Otherwise very good video
It does look alright, but doesn't a Peloton automatically adjust the resistance for you as you go up & down hills, rather than you having to manually make adjustments?
What do you think of the XIAOMI Yesoul S3 for the DIY Paleton? As i can get it for 430 EUR but im not sure xD Product name:Yesoul Smart shinning bike Resistance system:Magnetron resistance system Resistance mode:Magneric resistance Program:Weight Loss, Fitness Scope of application:Office, family Height limit:150~188cm Rated maximum load: 120kg Flywheel weight: 7.5kg Max Support: 280lb Product Weight: 31kg Package Weight: 36kg Product Size:(Length)1000*(Width)510*(Height)1250(mm)
We only have to use it for around 4 - 5 minutes. I saw the scientific doc on tv years ago. The heart/body gets sufficient benefits from using it for 5 minutes compared to 20 minutes, same thing. Of course, you have to be in fairly good shape already to pedal at 60 - 80% strength for 30 seconds intervals. Then with added dumbbell workout, voilà, you're in ship shape.
Great video. I went with the Schwinn IC4 and it's a dead easy sync. No extras required. Thank you for all of this great info. Really helped make my decision. Saving over 1000$ on the bike and then the 20$ extra a month on the app. I'm great without the leaderboard. A couple of questions: I can't find Scenic Rides except for bout 8 at the bottom of the featured page, as "most popular scenic rides". Are there more to chose from elsewhere? We also find that the resistance doesn't correspond exactly. Like 25 feels challenging and 40 near impossible. Have you figured out how they correspond? I was thinking the IC4 resistance is about 15 more than the Peloton (i.e., when they say do 35, I might do 20...). Thoughts?
we find, in general, subtract about 10 on resistance for the IC4 over what they call out on the app. But really, it's just a suggestion so adjust accordingly to the intensity of workout you want personally. As for the scenic rides, sadly I think Peloton has removed them from the app.
Thanks for the great video. I just purchased the bike last week and I love it. How did you sync the heart rate to the iPad? It works on my phone with the Apple Watch but not on my iPad.
Thanks for the info just got a boflex C6 it comes with a heart monitor I have an iPad I will get the peloton app . But do I need to buy a Cadence Sensor??
Hey! Really enjoyed this video! When will you be doing a review of your Schwinn IC4? I appreciate finding reviews from fellow Canadians, as they're a bit harder to find. Looking forward to more reviews of your workout apps and equipment :)
Thank you for amazing video! Looking for a indoor bike for 2 months now - Doing spinning for 10 years ( GoodLife) - now with COVI don’t feel very comfortable to go to classes- I will love your review for the Schwann IC4 bike- Thank you guys well done
Hello. You mentioned the noise level but due to the background music was unable to really get a grasp for it. I just received mine and I’m trying to compare. Mines doing a subtle quiet purring at the flywheel.
Question - how does the Peloton app show your speed if you haven't attached a speed sensor? I saw that you attached a cadence sensor, but that is different as it doesn't take distance into account.
Hey, so do i get it right, i only need a Spinning bike and the Cadence Sensor basicly to use the Paleton App? Simply connect the Cadence Sensor and the Paleton App will be able to use it? Is a Heart Rate Monitor nessesary? Would be great to se the setup process with the Cadence Sensor
Awesome review! We’re thinking of getting a Nordictrack Studio cycle and i stumble upon your video and started looking at Schwinn. How do you like it? Did you make the review yet? Ill definitely watch it. Btw, any thoughts on Nordictrack Studio Cycle? Thanks!
I watched your video and it was very informative but I do have a couple questions. If I'm not really interested in my heart rate and Cadence do I need the wahoo attachment. I don't have any kind of Apple device but I understand I can download the app on a Windows 10 PC. Is that correct? And also if I'm just interested in riding along On the trails and scenic routes on the Peloton app what extra attachments do I need. Do I need the wahoo? And how do I sync up my PC to my bike. It's not a Peloton Bike by the way thank you
Hi! I just purchased the Bowflex that is the same as this bike. Can you please tell me which cleats you bought for the shoes, in order to clip-in :) thanks!!

Amazon has them in stock right now and showing only 12 left. It also has the 5 payment plan option directly from your choice of payment. I wasn’t planning to buy this soon but since the payment option spread over 5 months popped up I jumped on it!
Don’t buy a cadence sensor, you need a power meter, get favero assioma pedals they will measure both cadence and power and link to the peloton app. You can’t train properly without power you will DEFINITELY cheat otherwise. Then you can use ZWIFT too, which IMO is better than peloton classes
@@2006mrderrickh I did some reading and all I read was that there wasnt a way to do it. But that was the only thing I think you cant get doing it the DIY way. If you have a facebook, there is a FB peloton group with a ton of info! I actually ended up getting an elliptical.
you gauge your resistance level based on perceived resistance 0 to 10. so turn your dial to the point you don't feel any brake resistance. thats level 1, mark the dial with a small piece of tape at the 12 oclock position.. Now continue to pedal and turn your resistance dial cw, to the point you would consider to be the hardest level you could maintain pedaling. This is level 10 if it took 1 complete rotation great then 6 0clock would be level 5. if it took two rotations then 1 complete rotation (back at 12 o'clock) would be your level 5. Use the dial as a clock face you'll figure it out
Schinn IC4 $899 new (before tax), Apple Ipad $900 (most likely more), heartrate monitor $30, Mat $25, Holder $20, and then shoes etc it's already over $2000 USD! Echelon ex5s $1700 USD (tax in and free delivery) brand new with 21 inch monitor included!
Excellent video. Very informative, not too wordy, covered all important topics and answered most common questions. Very helpful information. Great technical quality video.
I ordered an IC4 in part based on this vid. I have an Airpad Pro 12.9 and I’m concerned if it will be secure on the IC4. It looks to me like that’s the tablet you use in this vid, but I’m uncertain. Do you mind confirming the size of the iPad you used in this vid?
I went to the Garmin IQ app store and downloaded a SpinTracker app from a really nice, responsive developer in Netherlands. Our bike is not nearly as nice as the Schwinn, as far as any electronics, but the Garmin speed and cadence monitors (about $50) connects to the watch via SpinTracker app, and then available via the Garmin Connect app, Strava, etc.
We tackled assembling the bike as a family project. ruclips.net/user/postUgkxzg0clhbtRf2gGxPkVETFKJJKGqdsorQu The package is heavy, but I have 2 teen boys that were able to move it. Bought my IC4 a month ago. Really love the purchase. The Peloton classes are excellent! One of the best investments I've made this year.
Do your knees hit the water bottles when standing on the bike?

Could you do the same thing with a basic bike trainer?
what size tablet is that?
Does the leaderboard work with this setup?
You can only access the leaderboard if you have Peloton branded equipment.
You can access the leader board if you sign up with the app
I like the name of your channel! my husband and I were DINK for 5 years before we had our son.
What do I do if my bike doesn’t have a computer. Mine doesn’t show resistance level
you gauge your resistance level based on perceived resistance 0 to 10. so turn your dial to the point you don't feel any brake resistance. thats level 1, mark the dial with a small piece of tape at the 12 oclock position.. Use the dial as a clock face you'll figure it out
Nice! Very frugal myself so this is super cool.
Awesome video!! Would love to see an in-depth review of that beautiful spin bike.
Hi great informative video what is the bike in the video please
The bike is a Schwinn IC4. Great bike!
How are you measuring resistance? You can't get a true measure of kw output without that, can you? Genuinely asking.
can someone recommend a dumbbell rack/holder?
I always wondered how to heartbeat is placed. I dislike placing it on my chest, I think it makes me focus on breathing restriction.
Use a wrist one.
Excellent video. Very informative, not too wordy, covered all important topics and answered most common questions. Very helpful information. Great technical quality video.
Terrible comment. Superfluous, and offers no real value. Very much a waste of time. Poor grammar.
Your iPad Pro will fit perfectly. I have the same bike and iPad.
How are you liking the bike so far?
I have a garmin watch will it work for the heart rate? Or only apple watches?
I went to the Garmin IQ app store and downloaded a SpinTracker app from a really nice, responsive developer in Netherlands. Our bike is not nearly as nice as the Schwinn, as far as any electronics, but the Garmin speed and cadence monitors (about $50) connects to the watch via SpinTracker app, and then available via the Garmin Connect app, Strava, etc.
Thank you so much for this video! It's a reasonable alternative to the peloton bike, especially costwise, obviously.
Can you also do a NordicTrack S22i hack with the IFIT app?
