I don't understand the haters on here. If you don't like it, move on. This is one mans opinion of Peloton. I can appreciate that people have found alternatives to Peloton that work for them and share them here for others, but why the hate?
Great review, I've e had mine for 8 months and love it. My wife just purchased the treadmill and it will be here next week. Quality products but not cheap. Cheers dude!
We actually just cancelled Orangetheory and went with Peloton because it’s a 1/3 the cost of OTF membership for us every month and the whole 30 day trial thing was hard to pass up. We’re excited to try it out!
I'm sure Orange Theory is great for some people but for use the time we save by having the Peloton at home is a big selling point. Ultimately it's about finding what works for you.
I had an OTF membership before moving and then started using the Peloton digital app. The only thing I struggled with at first was not being fully immersed into the class setting. I'm excited to get my bike this week!
Nice! I have the $600 Sunny and I use it with the Peloton digital app. I have the Wahoo cadence meter and heart rate strap. We have the bike in front of a turbo fan. I get amazing workouts and love this combination. I have figured out the total turns and divided it up so I know how to relate it to the instructor’s call. It works so well for us both! I highly recommend the $600 Sunny.
Sounds like you found a great combination that works for you! Honestly that’s all that matters when it comes to working out. When we were using the bike we bought from Amazon we would do the same thing when the resistance knob of the bike. If I had a little bit of resistance on the bike I considered that 25 resistance. I full turn of the knob was 10 more. That worked out pretty well for us.
Did you get your bike and is it everything you thought it would be? I am thinking about buy one. I am current using the digital app ding what Chris did before he bought his Peloton bike.
@@jesushatesyoutoo Yes, I got it, and I am about 45 rides in. The timing was perfect. Right before the sh#t hit the fan with the virus. The bike has helped keep me sane during the shelter in place order, and I am glad I got it!
There delivering them at no cost now. I am debating on buying one . Not sure if I want to spend 39 a month when my gym membership is only 10.00 a month. And there are places like the YMCA where the membership is 20 a month and they offer free classes like a spin class.
I just like the Peloton videos while exercise on my Schwinn 430 which I got in craigslist for 225.00. I do a 1/2 hour every morning and these videos help alot. On any exercise equipment, commitment is key. Like anything in life, if you are committed you will succeed
$2000 does seem expensive, but given that cellphones are easily about $1000 and they get dropped, cracked, and made obsolete easily, it's kind of tough to complain 🤷🏼♂️
That’s a good point! We’ve had our peloton bike for 2 years and are easily going to be getting at least another year of use out of it. I’ll probably have been thru 3 cellphones in the time I’ll have the peloton.
Mike Wilson that’s a horrible comparison bc first of all there on constant promotions to get the newest iPhone at a substantial discount. Also an iPhone will be with you at all times. My iPhone is synced with my car and is my gps, alarm, weather, communication and emails. Heck, my phone is literally my access to the entire world. Compare that to an overpriced bike that you may use a couple of hours a week, maybe.
I like robin. She’s one of my favorites! Emma is probably the instructor I workout with the most because I like the music she plays. I also do Hannah low impact rides on my recovery days.
Nice ordinary person review. I've seen technical reviews, and elite athlete reviews. I am leaning towards the Keiser m3i but the connected aspect is attractive. I need to look at what can be done on an iPad. I do have gyms at the office. One gym for cardio and weights (barbells, dumbbells, machines), and the other is a classroom with TRX and a lot of other things. I prefer running (outside, indoor track, treadmill), but the weather is often not cooperative (freezing rain today), and mixing in cycling at home would be a nice addition.
iPad is not the same. My gym has the Keiser bikes, but not having the metrics and the Leaderboard makes a big difference. It's so much better on the Peloton itself.
Hey Chris, as far as weight loss, endurance gains etc, what has been your experience? I ask because I've gotten pretty out of shape in the last 3 years. I used to run 4 times a week, 3miles a day, I would occasionally cycle and everything was good. Life happened though, and now Im looking to get back into my old routine of exercising on the daily. You seem pretty fit to begin with but did you seen weight loss, clothes fitting better, pants weren't as snug type of results with the Peloton?
Honestly my diet is terrible. I like unhealthy food too much. I was gaining weight and not working out because of long 12 hr days at work that left me exhausted. That’s why I wanted a Peloton so I could workout at home before work. Getting a ride in before work really helped me feel better and have more energy. I lost about 8 lbs but that’s with a TERRIBLE diet of fast food and a decent amount of wine each week. I have made drastic changes this year with intermittent fast and plan on making a video about how the peloton and fasting work together.
I’d be surprised if they release a significantly upgraded bike. So far the bike has received only upgrades to the electronics (new processor). Right now I’ve only read there are rumors of a cheaper treadmill and a new rower.
Please see my separate comment with detailed thoughts. In general, spin bikes are extremely low maintenance and last a very long time. Any spin bike works with the Peloton Digital app on your device.
I don’t think I would of stayed with the digital app setup. We love the Peloton bike and really like being apart of the community. I don’t know if I would feel like I was getting the full experience without the bike.
Electrifying Chris thank you! We decided to just order the Peloton. Arriving on October 10th. I’m excited to get started! We are having to keep it on our covered patio for about 1 year. Going to get the outdoor weather covers.
The Peloton digital iOS and Android is pretty awesome. Tons of bodyweight, home cardio, and outdoor running classes. There is a 90 day trial right now.
The Peloton is made for a certain demographic with somewhat disposal income. At least they have the app available for people that can't afford groceries. Hope you're doing better now!
Do you think you could lose 10 lbs by using this alone, without changing diet? (Still healthy eating, but not making huge drastic cuts) Say you ride consistently 3 days per week, plus working out with weights in the gym. I’m at 202 right now, would like to be at 190.
Honestly losing weight is primarily about diet. Working out has very little to do with it. Riding the peloton like all cardio has many other health benefits but it’s pretty hard to loose weight by working out and not changing your diet.
If you do another video, please record how noisy the bike is when it's in use. Also interesting to know whether it would be easy to move into different rooms, or requires two people to even lift it
I need a few days but I’ll definitely do videos on both subjects. I need to think of some creative ways to compare the bike to familiar sounds to show how noisy it is.
If you just want to get started and no worry about shopping for shoes and a floor pad then buying that package makes sense. You don’t save much by buying your own stuff thru Amazon. I just bought the bike do I could buy nicer stuff.
Hi Bob! If you were interested in the extras (shoes, mat, weights) then the current holiday offer is a no brainer! If you order, let me know and I can give you a referral code :)
It’s definitely not cheap but I honestly feel like you get what you pay for. There is a ton of content both live and on demand with an excellent group of instructors and a very active community.
If Peloton was to go bust, your internet happens to be down, or maybe you just stop subscribing to the Peloton classes, how much functionality does the bike and touchscreen retain? Or would it basically become a dumb bike, with a completely unusable screen attached?
The bike has a “manual” mode where it still functions without a subscription. There are no classes to take just a blank screen that shows how fast your pedaling and what the resistance is at.
I think around 10 lbs. I’ve also done a TERRIBLE job with my diet. I literally changed nothing until recently. For me, changing what I eat and how much has a much bigger effect. I’ve been doing the peloton bike, lifting weights, and interment fasting and getting really good results. I’’m averaging 4 lbs a month since I started.
No disrespect, and I understand the appeal, but the Peloton Bike is ridiculously overpriced. It’s a spin bike....with a screen. Plus, you’re locked into their platform. The Peloton Digital app is $13/mo, vs $40/mo with their bike! Same catalog of classes, including live classes. In my research, the best option is either the Schwinn IC4, or the Bowflex C6. Note these are the same exact bike, except for branding and $100 cost difference. The Schwinn retails for $799. These bikes are great for Peloton because they communicate cadence to the app on your device, and their resistance is indexed 0-100, identical to Peloton, and is shown on the console directly below the tablet holder. Cadence and resistance are the two variables Peloton instructors use to guide the desired output, and the experience is excellent on these bikes. Also, since you’re not locked into the Peloton platform, you can run other apps, including Zwift with these bikes. When comparing first year costs you get the following: Peloton Bike - $2245 for the Bike, plus $480 ($40*12) for the subscription = $2725. With the IC4, $799 for the bike, plus $156 ($13*12) for the Peloton Digital subscription = $955. Serious savings. As well, the Schwinn / Bowflex bikes are better quality than the Peloton Bike, and I’ve ridden the Peloton on several occasions.
Clawdawg that’s my exact set up. Actually, I bought the Schwinn IC3 and use the Peloton app. My bike shows the cadence and I can figure out the resistance. A much better deal. And I only paid $500 for mine.
Andre Washington Great! I actually paid $580 for the IC4, but even at $800 I would recommend it over the IC3 for the zero maintenance magnetic resistance, the fact that it’s indexed 0-100, identical to PB, and the value shows on the console. Seamless experience, with no guesswork.
Clawdawg I still don’t know how important it is to have the resistance on the screen. When I’m in a peloton ride I am usually ahead of the instructor in calorie burn, which tells me I am correctly getting the resistance and then some. My cadence is exactly what the instructors tell us.
Clawdawg don’t forget to add another 400$ if you want to get you and your partner cycling shoes for the peloton (which is required for use). It’s such a beautiful piece of equipment but I feel I’m paying for the name and the 32” screen. What are the differences in the ic3 and the ic4. These are the choices my wife and I have narrowed it down to. I feel if I can get out of this for under 1000$, we could use the savings for a solid treadmill or even a couple traditional bikes for when the weather doesn’t suck, heck we could even have a little money left over for a small vacation. I guess our main reasoning behind our thought process is that the peloton although looks cool is just too dang expensive. This bike would have to offer a whole lot more for the price tag, and honestly I just don’t see that.
@@rileycrain5784 After using the Peloton Bike several times and now owning the IC4, I can confirm both Schwinns are better built than the PB. With PB, you're paying 3x the price of the IC4 for a screen, one that is locked into the Peloton platform, plus you're paying another $26/mo to use it. If your plan is to use the Peloton Digital app, as I stated in the opening comment in this thread, the IC4 is the best option, with its bluetooth connectivity and 0-100 resistance readout (identical to Peloton Bike). For this purpose, its use is seamless, with heart rate and cadence shown on screen in the Peloton Digital app, and resistance showed directly below on the console. The IC4 also has magnetic resistance, vs felt pad, which is much smoother in operation and a no-wear maintenance item. You can see the comparison page here: www.schwinnfitness.com/schwinn-indoor-cycling-bikes. As with all things Peloton, their shoes are ridiculously overpriced. They are taking advantage of individuals who have no experience in the cycling community. You can get a comparable pair of shoes for less than $100. Here's an example of what the iOS app looks like when connected with the IC4 (note that Bowflex C6 is same bike....same parent company): ruclips.net/video/eg4ADJAztrk/видео.html And, here's a good review of the Bowflex/Schwinn IC4, with loads of useful comments and using the Peloton Digital app: dataguy.me/2019/11/review-bowflex-c6-indoor-exercise-bike/
I have not received money from Peloton or anyone associated with Peloton. The videos I’ve made are because we love our bike and I like talking about it. If we didn’t like it then my videos would of been about how terrible it is. In my videos I mention plenty of things I wish were better (rotating screen, longer warranty, etc). My review was positive because I like it.
So, are you saying that you also have a gym membership do to treadmill workouts or do you also own a treadmill? My gym membership is $100/mo (includes unlimited group training classes) and I get to interact with real people that motivate me and not just have someone yelling at me on a screen. Also, a 20 minute bike ride a day is not a sufficient workout if you really want to lose weight and get in shape. It's better than nothing but you're going to need to make major changes in your diet to get any weight loss (which is why the commercial didn't show it as a weight loss mechanism). Doing basically the same workout everyday is not a great exercise program. You're right that the warranty should have been longer minimum two years and really as long as whatever the finance period is.
My diet is the biggest problem I have. I really like food and wine. If going to gym and doing in person group classes works for you then awesome! That’s all that honestly matters.
It’s more than just a TV. It’s a android tablet with a touchscreen. There are numerous live classes and thousands of on demand classes. There also sensors that measure the speed you speed and how hard the resistance is. There is quite a bit going on with this bike.
How do you have rusty screws on an indoor bike... I have street bikes that don't have rusty screw .. I have a 10 yr old car with no rusty screws..lol and a pedal broke...lol. Influencers..lol y'all's days are numbered
Because I sweet all over the bike. Why are you criticizing someone for giving their opinion on something? Especially when they are pointing out something they don’t like.
@@electricchris not criticizing you... I'm criticizing peloton for using cheap materials. I did a search after watching your vid and it seem a lot of people are complaining about rusty parts... Parts not affected by sweat.... Plus since when does sweat rust screws.. that's just in heard of..
I'm a cyclist. I looked at the Peloton, the cost is just too high. I would rather spend my $2,000 on a quality road bike. I have a trainer that I can connect my bike too, it's a smart trainer. I use a program called Zwift. $14.00 per month, and I can ride hundreds of miles with more than 2,000 cyclist from all across the world. And when the weather is great, I just disconnect my bike from the trainer and I ride outdoors. If you like the Peloton, that's great... But it's over priced and you can do better.
@@MrArjay123 I honestly don't care what you think,... so there is that. If you can show me where the Peloton has an advantage over a real bike hooked up with a quality trainer like Wahoo, and using a program like Zwift... go for it. But I'll save you the trouble... you'll not be able to. If you want to spend all that money on the Peloton, which limits you... it's your money.
Totally different target audience. Cycling and spinning are not the same groove. Peloton is aimed towards people who would rather spend their day at Soulcycle rather than a cyclist who rides on a smart trainer to make their outdoor riding better. If you are rocking out 2x a week at a spin class, this bike make sense for you. If you are wanting to supplement your cycling, a smart trainer makes more sense.

Here's an example of what the iOS app looks like when connected with the IC4 (note that Bowflex C6 is same bike....same parent company): ruclips.net/video/eg4ADJAztrk/видео.html
And, here's a good review of the Bowflex/Schwinn IC4, with loads of useful comments and using the Peloton Digital app: dataguy.me/2019/11/review-bowflex-c6-indoor-exercise-bike/
Chris, this doesn't sound like an impartial review. Have you been compensated, directly or indirectly, by Peloton or associated firms?
Can you clarify if Pelaton is paying you for this review?
Peloton is not. I have no affiliation with peloton. This is my own opinion.
A stationary bike gets in the way in a few years as people grow in their lives. The world already went through this. Thats why there are gyms.
By the time this bike gets in my way i’ll have wore it out. I’ve had it since November 2017 and still love it.
So how much does peloton pay you to say how great it is?
They don’t pay me anything. I just really like my bike.
just a sales pitch
So you didn’t answer the big question, how much weight did you lose?????
$3000 in Canada
The adverts do my head in it's just a bike with a TV on
It’s more than just a TV. It’s a android tablet with a touchscreen. There are numerous live classes and thousands of on demand classes. There also sensors that measure the speed you speed and how hard the resistance is. There is quite a bit going on with this bike.
Thank you. To boot, it’s not a great spin bike. Will provide my own thoughts in a separate comment.
Those Peloton bikes are way overpriced. People are getting ripped off buying those things.
I’m pretty happy with mine. I don’t feel ripped off. It’s expensive but offers a lot!
In my town you would be run over in two seconds. Best of luck to you.
@@kevinroa2919 which is why I'm on zwift more often. I've been riding for years.
Robert H lmao you sound like a paid ad
An now ur broke
whopaul never broke...lol. It’s called having a job.
YOU WILL SAVE THOUSAND RIGHT FROM THE START WITH PLANET FITNESS.. PLUS HUNDERS EACH YEAR AFTER.
whopaul I’m a Planet Fitness member, and I’m watching this video because PF isn’t close to enough.
Have you heard anything about a generation 3 Peloton coming
I haven’t. If would be nice if they refreshed the bike the same time they announce the cheaper treadmill and row machine.
