Hello Friends! This week we are making a very wearable mockup of the Pretty Housemaid Corset. I contacted Michelle from Clockwork Faerie late last year to make me a custom sized pattern to my measurements, and also purchased a private fitting session while I was at it. The pattern was $60 and the Fitting was $20 and it was worth every penny!
She has her own Tutorial up about how to make this corset, but here is also my experience making it! I do hope you enjoy!

I want a second. the fact that sewing a corset is not difficult. I am not a super experienced sewing expert, by any means, but I just made my first corset and I'm working on corset number two. It is not hard. I don't know why I had it in my head that this would be difficult. I'm using one of the black snail patterns and it is super easy. If you haven't tried it, try it

As a plus sized person I love this designer didn't just make the pattern bigger, but knew what to alter, so it was comfortable for people with a belly, not just standing but sitting and moving.

Michelle's one comment about needing belly room to prevent the riding up problem when sitting was completely eye-opening. Having just made my first corset I could not figure out why that was happening so thank you so much Michelle and Noelle for letting us have a peek at that fitting session!

Very very helpful. I’ve been on the fence doing the custom pattern but seeing you sew it up and the custom fitting session sold me. Ive made atleast 4 other corsets and I just can’t get them right and comfortable enough to wear at my sit down job. I need it more for slight back support due to chronic back issues. Thanks for sharing your fitting session as well. Super impressed the first pattern fit so well.

This is really nice. I especially like when you sit down and say that the corset don’t ‘go up’ (you know what I mean) and Michelle says “ it’s because of the extra belly room “.
Perfect. Now I know what’s wrong with my corsets. Thank you! ❤

I don't sew (would like to but I have my fingers in too many metaphorical pies already) but I have always loved the idea of corsets. My hyperfixation recently has been historical dress and so when I stumbled upon this video after seeing the exact pattern on etsy I was so happy! Couldn't stop smiling through the whole consultation section of this video as well - Michelle is so cool and sweet and I love her making this niche passion accessible! Thanks for putting this whole video together Noelle, I found it fascinating and hope one day I can use it to help inform my sewing adventures. As someone who isn't "regular" sized, seeing creators who are size inclusive is so, so affirming.

This felt really good to watch. Not only is that corset really cool and pretty (and I like the colour!) and I learned stuff while watching, I also feel really grateful for you talking positive about giving your belly room in a corset. I needed to hear that.
Today I'm trying to take it slow as I am having an low-energy week. Really hard to not overexcite myself and then crash. But now I have been sitting here just mending a skirt lining by hand for almost an hour and that felt good.

What a beautiful result, and such a great service Michelle is providing. I really hear you on not particularly wanting a ballgown, took me ages to get inspired to design mine for the Bath Ball, I would rather have dressed as a Victorian gent but didn’t have anything suitable, but that inspired me to make a bodice based on a tailcoat (also I gave myself the character of being the Madame of a Parisian house of pleasure) and was happy in the end! Finally I have viewed a current post so I can introduce myself to you and your historical dress/sewist hive family! I grew up in the SF Bay Area, on the bay side peninsula, Los Altos and Mountain View. I moved from CA in 1980 to Denver and since 1983 I live in Santa Fe, NM. I have been sewing since I was 5, and dressed my dolls in period dresses I created, so I suppose I was destined to become a costume designer from child hood. I have a BFA in Fashion Design and a trade school degree in Fashion design. At that time there was no degree for Clothing Historians.I have been in and out of the SCA since 1974, always seriously involved in the period dress aspect of it. In the past 7-8 years I have followed my Danish/Norwegian heritage and heavily thrown myself into pictorial embroidery of Viking Age artwork from various mediums and place them into and onto my period embroidered clothing. I also do period hoping and History Bounding & love to dress the part with my own creations, representing correctly as possible, of course! I do enjoy your process and the factual presentation of what it takes to do a proper kit, head to toe! Thank you for that, I mean it, from the bottom of my heart! Thanks to you I dug out my pattern drafting sloaper ,re-drafted it to my current shape, then designed some cottage core/Victorian inspired dresses. I have become inspired to design again largely due to You and Costuming Drama!Next is a corset! The one I made in 1976, well it just doesn't.

    2023 is a train wreck! 😂🤣😂
The corset is awesome. I accidentally lost a ton of weight and now am like right in line with vintage big 3 but I’m still going to her site to check it out. Sunday, I designed, printed and mocked up a knit blouse. Yesterday, I stitched together fabric I purchased from Backroomfinds (and cut out) in late September. I used a ‘60’s pattern from my Nana’s stash. It turned out awesome! Today, I went to work and had the worst class ever. 😂
It’s like a friggin rollercoaster ride up in here...oh it snowed to white out conditions while the kiddos were out on the playground...then it melted and refrozen to cause maximum hazard conditions.
    LIFE! 🌈🌈🦋🦋

I'm a better sewist because I watch your channel. Your binding method for the bottom, fold over and blind stitch in the ditch, is common for quilt bindings. Love that the mock-up is a keeper. 💚

@@Costuming_Drama bags are a great mini project - relative to the bigger quilt/costume projects that are marathon activities, bags can be completed in only 3-5 hours over a weekend. My first bag make was from Sara Lawson @ SewSweetness, called the Superbloom Tote. It was mostly beginner friendly, but since you already have the experience sewing through lots of layers, it will be old hat for you. Her how-tos are a must 😁

Get thee to a library! They have free audiobooks :) Then you can use audible for the books the library doesn’t have. I’ll recommend Julie Anne Lindsay and all her other pen names, especially Bree Baker, if you like cute, fluffy “it will end well” books.
Thanks for the corset cheerleading. I’m a bit intimidated by making a corset and doing cording, so that pep talk was really helpful!

I'm not that intimidated by sewing one, just trying to get one to fit me right. So I just need to get the measurements and get that pattern. That corset looks great on you and fits really well.

Depending on where you live, and what time of year, you may have 2 postal runs and they aren't done by the same person. Where I am, envelope mail/small packages that fit in the box are delivered between 10-11am but packages come between 7-9pm most of the year. Our daytime mail person is a guy in his 40s and our evening delivery is a team. But totally agree the postal system needs an overhaul to be kinder to everyone.
And I will not excuse your Cheshire cat pants because they're awesome. So is the color of the mock up... Such a pretty blurple. And watching you cross things off is always SO SATISFYING. It's like dopamine by proxy. Oh! A new narrator to check out. I didn't think anyone else was like me but I'm picky about narrators and will often choose books because of the narrator. I've been getting into cozy fantasy lately. Legends and Lattes has me so eager to read that I put down my knitting. 😱
Totally followed Clockwork Faerie! I think the only way I'll ever be able to have a comfortable corset is if I use a service like hers. Being plus sized with a very short waist means no "over the counter" pattern will ever fit right.

I think this corset is next on my corset list. First I want to fix up the one I've already made because it's a bit big (I had no idea how much I'd squish down in an actual corset when I patterned it out) and the side front bones are a bit long and encounter my thighs when I sit down lol. Right now I'm adding the trim and closures on my winter pj chemise and drawers, felling a tunic, and embroidering some wool mitts before I sew them up! I also still need to add the binding on the table runners I'm making for my mom

Wonderful pattern design and designer, so very helpful with the fitting and redoing the pattern again. What a brilliant service.
Looking forward to seeing the next one you make and which ones the designer brings out that are going to be custom fitted.
    Exciting times ahead.
Molly Harper has some very good books on audible, I enjoyed the 16 books in the Half-moon Hollow series. Her books are often in the sales that audible do.

At the moment I don't feel I can do that yet, because .... too many unfinished projects. 😅 I want to finish at least some, before starting a new project. I don't know why I can't finish sometimes. I've so missed watching your videos! you totally take the nerves out of everything that seems intimidating. I've recently gotten into a major Christmas event in our area, the Victorian Country Christmas Market (Puyallup, WA), so I need to make 3 days of Victorian wear (I'm going to cheat on the last day and wear 18th c. because shorter skirt for teardown). On top of making my own products, of course. I bought one of the regular ClockworkFairy patterns for the Pretty Housemaid, but now I'm beginning to think that the custom measurements one is the way to go. Thank you for doing this!

My experience with the front lacing stays from Redthreaded was great, so I'm looking forward to the straight lines on this nice corset. Honestly, I was intimidated by the cording but you made it look so easy! 😊 I'm excited to see what sort of ballgown you come up with. Hii, I loved watching this while working on my current project 😊 I impulsively bought fabric to make a wedding dress (no one's getting married though, I'm 20 xD) and I wanna make the top part of it a corset. I've never made one before and I just kind of made the pattern by draping it on myself, so I don't know how it's gonna turn out, but I've been loving watching all the corset content on RUclips while getting busy 😊
