God bless you brother! I’m a Roman Catholic deacon and also struggle with depression. Many don’t understand that you can be a person of deep faith and still struggle with emotional and mental health issues. So many have the same difficulties but are afraid to say anything. Thank you for addressing this publicly. I try to do the same so others will not feel alone. You bring others hope and that is what is most needed in the world. You’re doing God’s work.
I have a friend who suffers with depression and one day when we were talking about it I said 'it's a pity that you don't have a broken arm or leg instead of depression', he said 'what do you mean'? I said 'well with a broken arm or leg people can see what you are suffering from, but they can't see what's going on in your head'. When I worked as a Compere I worked with many very famous people and many of them suffered with depression. On the face of it they had everything, fame, money, fans and yet off stage they were not happy people. I sometimes think that life is all about balance, when you have a 'gift' be it in music, art, entertaining people it seems that in some way you have to pay for it. I wish you well my friend.
Jonathan, Your courage is an inspiration. If more of us shared as you have, the world would transform overnight. Thank you for your gift of your truth!
I’m in tears at the breakfast table as I reflect on Jon’s video and the testimony of you all. Same story, but different patterns and experiences with depression, for me. My heart is broken for you my brothers and sisters, both in the body of Christ and in the body of musicians. I want to thank you all for sharing! It helps so much to know that we are not alone in this journey. Peace to you all.
Jonothan...I just sent an introduction comment then discovered this video. It is profoundly moving for me because I also had many years being challenged by anxiety and depression. Thank God, in my retirement years I've been able to find peace in this life. I am a Christian for many years, and I discovered that God had never forsaken me. I had stayed away seeking answers in many wrong places, but there was no answer except in Lord Jesus Christ. I feel like God guided me to your videos. The music opened the door, but your sharing about your brush with depression and your relationship with our Lord was why I came to your site. The music is wonderful, and God is life, purpose, and peace. Thank you so much.
Hi Jonathan. Am a huge fan. Fellow Singaporean and have lived with depression for 2 decades. Your playing lifts me up each time. Inspires and entertains. Just want to thank you. It's a constant struggle with the panic attacks still. But just knowing we're never really alone makes each step, each breath, each day easier.
From being being a very chilled strong guy as I am, about 15 years ago I went through a series of full on panic attacks, you can’t control them, your whole body shakes, you are helpless, it’s a feeling very hard to explain for anyone to who has not had one. Well my friend, I was fortunate to get a referral from my boss , who also suffered from panic attacks and advised me to read a book published by a Doctor who not only explains in detail how this happens, but ways to beat it. There were several methods and two of the ones he suggested actually worked for me, I have not had a panic attack since. I’m sorry but I cannot remember the name of the book, perhaps google it and hopefully it will show up. I think I suffered the panic attacks over two years. I hope you find a cure soon, keep searching for away, don’t give up.
Praise God! Thank you for sharing your story, Jonathan. I've struggled with painful chronic illness and difficult family issues for 17 years now and it's pushed me to places I not only can't describe to people but would be afraid to tell them. Not unlike yourself, it's also made me much more aware of the reality of depression in those around me. Love the Lord your God with all your heart, mind, and soul, and love your neighbor as yourself. LOVE! But not just any "love" but the love that is defined and modeled by God. Appreciate'ya, Jonathan. Blessings from Texas.
Depression is NO joke my friend, I'm thankful you were very honest. Not feeling like waking up another day... Feeling like life isn't worth living, yeah those are real phenomenons. Falling deeper and deeper into a pit you yourself are digging, wondering if God will ever hear your prayers from down there... but God is sooo faithful, and truly that's the only reason why I play guitar, really.. I wouldn't even be alive without God's mercy... I wouldn't, but God's faithfulness has never failed us and will never fail. God bless you kindly sir, God richly bless you.
A year ago I went through a break up. It was very difficult during the holidays. I fell into a depression and didnt have anyone to talk too. Im a worship guitarist and i didnt want to play anymore. I didnt want to do anything with God. I was mad at God. None of my Christian friends knew what i was going thru. Thank God i got thru it. But yes, lets be mindful of others. A hug would have meant so much to me. Here's a hug for those who need it. Nobody should go thru this alone. Thanks Jon for sharing. God Bless!
26 years now. I lost most everyone, my career. Child. No one to tell. So I wake up everyday and try to be kind and try to see beauty and try to just hold on. I think about gratitude, and one thing I am grateful for is to see a new video once in awhile by a talented player and generous person like you. Things like that make me smile and remember to keep getting up. I hope you can keep finding peace and contentment. Thanks for sharing your experience Jonathan.
I'm pretty much over it my dear brother...I'm so sorry to hear of your loss...May you find joy and relief in this world..But I also pray that you find all these and more in God. Have a blessed Christmas Jason 🤓✌
Thanks Jonathan, I appreciate it. I am trying. I really mean it, things like your videos and other people acting good to each help a lot. Helps to battle the symptoms of it, which try to convince you that there’s no hope. Like ammunition. I am glad you are feeling well. And hey, you don’t have to apologize for your faith or belief in Jesus. There’s nothing wrong with saying that it was part of what helped you find your way out of your time of struggle with it. You rock man, looking forward to seeing what you cover in your next video. Have fun!
I've seen many videos, but this one talked to me. I felt like you were actually talking to me. I retired 4 years ago. Seems like that is when my depression hit me the strongest. Mom passing away a year before, for sure didn't help. My depression still exists, but not as strong. I know I still have it because my dream was to build a recording studio and enjoy making music in my retirement. I love playing guitar (over 100). I have everything to start my studio. Yet I do not have the energy to even start. I even promised myself as a new years resolution to have it completed. It's December and I haven't even started. I don't even play as much guitar like I used to. My kids are grown up so I'm basically alone until my spouse comes home from work. Then I find it so hard to go shopping or go eat, much less to be social. Of course, this doesn't help my mild or strong depression. All I know is that i find it's still present. NEVER to the point of suicide, mind you. I still love life. But I'm not enjoying it to the fullest. I have at times had bouts of crying by myself. I do believe in God. I pray every night for my family. I just hope I find that happy place before I die. Thank you for letting me know we are not alone.
Dear brother ...you are not alone....never alone. Try taking up a sport? cycling with a group? or heck! join a band!! You just have to pick yourself up and just grind it. And if you lack the strength, ask God for strength! God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Psalm 46:1
@@JonIsJustTooLoud ...I was in a band in my college days in Los Angeles. That is the reason I decided to just try to make music on my own. Too many attitudes, conflicts of schedules, and my seriousness of making music was always a priority that my fellow band members only saw as a mere pastime. Hence, my dream of my own little studio. I've had a few people recommend taking up sports or volunteering somewhere. I'm limited to much physical movement due very painful back problems. THAT also contributes to my bouts of depression. If I could pray for a miracle to heal my back I would. But I try to deal with it as much as I can. I thank you brother for your thoughts. I enjoy your style of playing because you play it with feeling. Your notes talk way more than any shredder can.
More than often when people retire from work, their quality of life diminishes. So my friend this is the key. If you loved your work, you need to get back into it, not necessarily the same thing, but an avenue that will give you purpose, something that you will enjoy, something you can give, something you can take. When you find your way it will give you the inspiration to work on your music. Don’t be afraid to cry, it is a natural way to release any negativity in your life. You may not get help directly from God, but you are sure to receive it channeled through him, even through this text I’m writing to you. Have faith my friend and you will improve your life and maybe one day you will for fill your dreams, but keep them real. Bless you.
Jonathan, at the end of the day......Please remember how much joy your videos..... ( playing) brings to your viewers ( FANS ). You play with to much heart. Save a little bit for yourself !!!!! I'd say. GOD bless you ..... But he already has !!!!! Emanuel , my friend !!!!!
Been there, done that....found Jesus Christ and all got better. Thank you Jonathan for coming out. Means a lot to all of us. May God Bless you. Shalom.
oh boy, iam not alone!!! depression, panik attacks and 2-3 traumatas plus some ptsd. went nuts got to a hospital for 8 weeks and learned to deal with it...... pills after pills....i discovered my old love guitars! i started building them again, playing them (i suck) but each time i build a guitar or finish a guitar and see the happy smile on the players face....maaan that is so rewarding! that is what keeps me from "going nutz" guitars music and people like YOU, YOU allways get a smile on my face THANK YOU for beeing YOU, much much LOVE from berlin! you have a brother here man! oh btw the neck is finished :D after xmas i will start on the body......maybe i will see that guitar in one of your videos! i send you pics from the neck (maple and smoked eucalypthus) plus dark rosewood fretboard with stainless jumbos
@Unfreundlich dude I think building a guitar is much harder and even more of an art form, than playing the thing is. Respect to you, liebe Grüße übrigens wenn‘s um die therapeutischen Vorteile von Musikinstrumenten geht, finde ich die Bassgitarre äußerst therapeutisch einfach zum Entspannen
Im a lonely guitarist, and recently found your videos. Iwould like to hear your testimony. Thank you for all your posted videos. Please stay strong and continue to feed us your music and sharing the words. I like to stick around and continue to grow together with you, dear bro Jonathan! Blesses Xmas!
Hello Joathan ,you are a person with a lot of sensitivity and I can also feel it in your music, I appreciate you a lot, you are someone of good, continue as you are, God bless you , ( excuse me for my bad English ....) Friendly
Jonathan, thank you SO much for sharing. I suffered for years, and my family suffered with me. While I am a rock-solid Christian, it seemed that no amount of prayer was helping me at all. I went through numerous medications and none of them worked. I came to accept that I would likely live out the rest of my days in the pit. I was never suicidal, but I didn't have any hope. Finally, my doctor talked me into some testing and I found the right meds. I AM BACK!! My point is that depression needs to be treated like any other illness. Medication may be necessary. Let yourself get well.
I'm glad you are all better these days!! I thank God! ✌🤓 Like I've stated..I'm all good. Just wanted to let people know about depression and how we can help without judging. And also for those who are going thru with it , to know that there's help available. Thank you for caring! ✌♥
Thank you for this Jonathan. I’m actually going to the psychiatrist tomorrow because of chronic depression I’ve dealt with for decades. One thing I think the church needs to improve upon; sometimes there are physiological and serious emotional things we deal with and we get sad. We get depressed. And we need help. I’ve prayed for the longest time for it to be removed but it hasn’t been removed. Sometimes we need outside help. God bless you brother. You are showing Jesus to this world. Thank you. Eric Phoenix, Arizona
Hi Eric! May you find comfort in HIS love..I pray that you will get over this rut by His grace. Remember that God will also work thru doctors..May God bless you with a great doctor. Take care buddy...God bless! 🤓✌
The Church, I think is slowly getting better about how to deal with depression, but it is still learning. As the members of the Church continue to share, like Jon has, I hope and pray we figure out how to help more and judge less. Thanks for sharing, Eric.
Youre a hero my companion. A light in dark days. I do understand what you've felt or feel. There are many of us, ripped out a rich live, working all th time and success on every front. Since my failed suizide last year, after 14 years of depression, i'm living dead. I'm very glad that you find a way out and opend up your inners, to tell there's a way out. Maybe not for everyone, but for most! Now i know, why i'm so impressed by you - not only your talent, excellent playing, also your personality. You are a special Person and i can't wait to enjoy your next Video. Please, don't give up, the world would be much darker without you. Live long and prosper 🖖
Having only found your channel a few months ago, enjoying your guitar reviews, marveling at your tasteful playing and just generally appreciative of your calm demeanor and sincerity, It was easy to hit like and subscribe. After watching all the great content - I dig deeper into the person behind it all and I find it to be a true inspiration. Everything you've said here hits home with me. As I've just mentioned to you on another platform about my recent events with my wife and her cancer diagnosis, I'm hurting in ways I've never felt before. I'm an ex military guy, faulty of too much pride and have had my struggles with faith for so long, I've battled depression and, like you, thought I could dig my own way out of it. Thank you so much for this inspiring message. Long after you posted it.. it is still helping people like me. I feel like I'm getting the benefit if knowing you and seeing you through all these videos yet you only know me by a tag name or avatar, but I want you to know how much I appreciate you brother. I feel like this message was the very thing God needed me to see right now! Thank you so much Jonathan. In God, in life and in music! -Sean
I’m touched by your message Sean.. I’m just honored and so glad that God has ministered to you thru my video. I’m just glad to know you have drawn near to the Almighty. He will lift you out of the darkness. He will be your deliverer.. it would be good to reach out and talk to a help group. We all need love Sean.. allow yourself to be loved❤️. God bless you brother.. stay well✌️❤️
Thank you for sharing your story. Going thru a stay in the valley here myself. Getting off of a couple of antidepressants that really just made it worse. I'm very much a believer in the Lord and was encouraged that He gave you relief and can help me too.
Thank you Jonathan for taking the time to speak out and share your thoughts, feelings, and story. The Joy of the Lord is your strength! It warms my heart to hear you share. I have highly valued your guitar analysis and playing ability, but now I also admire you for sharing your faith and struggles to overcome. May God richly bless you and your family.!
Thank you Jon. Perfect timing. For some reason the holiday season is always incredibly difficult for me. I’ve fough depression most of my life and I’m 73. I attempted suicide in 1972 because this life was too hard and lonely. I’ve been through 3 divorces because I’m no good at relationships partially because of depression. I’m on 4 meds now to ease it a little, but nat so much this time of year. I’ve been through counseling several times. I know some things that will help like exercise, playing my guitar, praying, etc. . Depression keeps me from doing any of that. Your description of being in a hole is right on! This isn’t helping right now so I’ll see you later. Time for a nap. The best thing for my depression has been my dog. He knows when I’m really down and helps me get through it. Thanks for your music and for sharing your life with us. Thanks for sharing your love of Jesus with us. You are my friend in absentia. God bless.
I totally get you brother...just remember to call out to Jesus when you feel it coming. He will not leave you nor forsake you. Playing guitars and going out for walks with your dog does help...talk to Jesus while you're out walking....I do that when I'm out cycling..take care brother and Godbless!✌♥
Hey Jon, I think your a great dude, with a lot to share don’t think nobody hears or sees you because they do. Especially god, he understands why some of us get down. But you get back up, and never give up. It’s all worth it, and thanks for sharing this, helps me beat my depression
Johnathan, you are truly a good man putting it out there ( very personal stuff) so that others can find help. I am a Jehovah's Witness who loves the guitar and has some battles with depression. in the end we are all human and subject to our weaknesses. Continue in telling everyone that love (for one another and god) can ultimately concour all of this worlds problems! thank you, once again!
Hi Jonathan, please do not feel worthless - go easy on yourself. You are a true inspiration to guitarists worldwide - this is one of the reasons why God has put you here on Earth. I have two very close friends that battle depression on a daily basis and I still love them unconditionally. Some days they are good and others, not so. They've even contemplated suicide - but none the less, still carry on. All I can do is be there for them when they need me. What you are going through is REAL and you are not alone! Please find comfort in the fact that at the very least, there is a whole guitar community out there that cares for you immensely. Take good care of yourself brother & may GOD bless you always!!!
Thank you Russell!! That's so loving and kind of you. This was what happened to me years ago. I shared this because O thought it would help people who went thru the same stuff as I did. I pray and wish your good friends will get better . Thank you for being a friend to them.✌♥. God bless
You are brave, generous, and a wonderful example of how we should live life. Thank you for your humility and for opening your heart. God bless you too!
Hi Jonathan. What an amazing post! You are an amazing guitarist and an amazing man. I can relate so much with your words. I went into depression in the late 90's and at a time when my life was going great ... 2 great children and a great job. My cause was genetics and a chemical imbalance. I admire your relationship with God. For me my depression was brought under control with medication, but we are all different. Do not apologise for being emotional. Be proud that you are not afraid to show your emotions so publicly. Yours is a wonderful message that I hope will make many of our fellow guitarists (and others) feel not so alone when the black dog is nipping at their heels, no matter how they may choose to treat and BEAT IT. Often it is said that it is the most creative people in this world (artists, musisicians etc) who are the most vulnerable to depression. You hit the nail right on the head with how depression affects us. Thankyou again ... if I could click the like button 100 times I would ..lol..
There is no stigma with being honest about your inner self and those inner struggles that challenge you.. depression comes to everyone at some point in their life...I myself have been there....Your strength is your ability to talk about it and for that I congratulate you...I was fortunate in having a loving partner and she supported me the whole way. Thank You Jonathan for sharing this with us...Hopefully it will inspire someone out there who is experiencing depression to share themselves with others...God Bless you my friend.
Thank you. God bless you and your family. I have watched videos for about a year, but never noticed this video. I suffer from mild depression and ADHD. Prayer is the key. I have too remind myself that my family needs me. I try not to compare my life to others and just try to be the best me I can be. The ADHD can cause lack of focus and long list of unfinished projects, under achievement, and goals never obtained. (i.e. I've been "learning" to play guitar since high school 13 yrs old. I'm 56 and still... I have books, videos...but make little progress and never finish. Same in my career and other things.) As a matter of self awareness and self help, I use my under acheivement to teach my kids and others how not to be. That is one way that I turn a negative into a positive. I share these coping skills that work for me with others. My career is in IT, but I also work with parents and teachers to recognize the behavior traits of children that are at risk of depression, vulnerable to abuse, and suicide. They become vulnerable and develop low self esteem and high behavior because of ADD, abuse, bullying, poverty, etc.
It is hard Kent...I have a son who's autistic and I thank God for HIS favors upon that boy...He's 21 by the way. There were many a times when I seek help from men..but help just wont come. God really came thru for me...again and again. And I'm sure HE has and will help you. Take good care Kent. God Bless✌️
God bless you, Jonathan! Thank you for your testimony, I 'd like to hear more about how you found God. I've had my fights with depression as well, due to losing a person very dear to me, then due to physical illness and not knowing what was happening to me. So yes, dark thoughts, lack of sleep, panic attacks - I can relate to all of these. Medication helped, but also getting down on my kness and talking to God and reading the Bible (especially during the panic attacks). The books of Job and the Pslams became very dear to me. God is good! May the love of the Lord rest upon you and your family. PS: brilliant playing, as usual
I’m watching this again….thank you Jon. Your sharing of personal struggles in order to help others is commendable…Paradise won’t be without music, you on the guitar, I’ll gladly play bass with you brother…love your channel and your values…I love how you shared that you don’t have a religion, you have Jesus….AMEN brother!
Thank you for sharing Jon. I (and I think a lot of folks did) had a bit of depression during the COVID pandemic. During the worst part if I thought it would never get better. I knew a few people who died or were hospitalized and that really bummed me out. But as you say, God never abandons us. He has a plan for us for a future and a hope.
Thanks Jonathan. Your testimony is an inspiration of how God can bring peace through Jesus Christ. I would love to hear your testimony. As a believer living in the US, it's awesome seeing how God is working on the other side of the world. Relationship, not religion...AMEN! May God continue to bless your family, and your playing. Your music is incredible! Thanks so much.
Oh Jonathan I’ve been there a few times and it was hell. I lived the fast life as a musician and it caught up with me. I stopped playing for a goo 10 years. Now I’m okay at 64 but what a tough lesson. I came to Christ to and that changed my life. I do find it hard getting older tho lol. Getting older isn’t for whimps. We have to carry our cross. I wish you the best. This was good to hear.
I’m glad to hear that brother!! You are right.. getting older is not easy. I pray peace, joy and protection upon you my brother.. May the Lord be your constant companion each day ✌️❤️
It takes courage to discuss this in a world where some people would use this against you, the human condition, your humanity shines through you Jon. Recovery can be a long process so do not be to hard on yourself time can be the greatest healer of all.👍😊
We need to speak openly about our mental health challenges because it is more common than realized. We’re not all professional counselors but we are all able to pause and listen as a sacrificial offering to someone who is hurting. We don’t have to “cure” that person but we can listen and encourage. It will us to make a difference in our lonely modern world.
Thank you for sharing. I too spent many years dealing with depression. I now help others come out of the same darkness. I call it coaching for lack of a better term. Only if you have experienced it can you understand. Again thank you so much for sharing. By the way your music is very life affirming filled with hope. Rest in the love of God and keep being Jonathan.
I would like to hear your testimony. As for depression, it is SO hard to see someone who has it an your standing there holding out your hand, and they keep slapping it away.......all you have to do is hold it out one more time than they slap it away. Treat it seriously, because it IS serious. God Bless you Jonathan for your bravery, this message WILL touch people!
Stay strong and focus on the positives bro. And to the douches who dislike it takes strength to expose one's vulnerabilities. if his revelation can help someone then its a good thing. A lot of people have depression in one form or another maybe you too.
Thank you Roy...and no I would not want the guys who dislike the video to have depression. People have different views. I just hope this video will encourage others who are suffering from it. God bless ! 🤓✌
@@JonIsJustTooLoud I wouldn't wish it on anyone. Everybody goes through depression in some form without realizing it and knowing help is just round the corner if you ask for it. The problem is recognizing it and having the strength to ask that's why it's good you came out with this video.
Hi Jonathan , thank you for that brave and generous video, you are truly blessed in many ways , you have your beautiful wife and family , you have a strong faith and you have a real gift for making beautiful music , even the three chord tricksters like me who watch your regular videos can see your music takes you to another place , it's also plain to see from the comments here from your online fans and friends the admiration , support and warmth towards you. All these will keep you strong .
Jonathan, bless you brother. I've been there as well. It was the Word of God that put my heart at rest as well. I was struggling, just as you were, I wasn't sure I wanted to go on. The doctor prescribed something for me, and I only took the medication once, and was determined that I wouldn't go down that road. Then God moved me to pick up His Word, and right then and there within minutes, He led me out of depression, filled me with hope again. I didn't realize how much pressure I had taken upon myself, how much I felt like everything in this life depended on me. Well Jesus took me to Matthew 6:25-34. "Do Not Worry"... He diagnosed my problem, gave me the answer and solution, and I never looked back. The depression lifted and I had my life back, all because of Christ and His Word. My Doctor asked me on the next visit how the medication was working. I told him I didn't use it. He looked puzzled and asked how I was handling the depression. I told him I wasn't having the problem any longer. He asked how... so I told him. He was a bit surprised, but accepting of what I told him. I know, like you, my situation was "my situation" and not exactly like what others may be experiencing. But, my solution was to trust Jesus completely. Thank you for sharing this with us all. God is great and good! Anyone who is wrestling with depression, take Jonathan's advice and reach out. You are loved... more than you can ever know. Jesus is the great healer of the human soul. You've nothing to lose and everything to gain by giving Him a chance to show you. Not religion, not church, not any of that. But the person of God's only Son, Jesus Christ. Call on Him, trust Him.
In 2015 I was hit by a car. It was a very hard hit. I had many questions. The one that was asked alot was why God did this happen to me. My friends helped me. But what really helped was the verse you quoted. You know this was the verse I held onto. I was an ok guitarist but not now. Yeah I have nerve damage I can't fret with my left hand but that won't stop me I can fret with my right. I have given all to God my life, my playing every thing was given to God. I might never play well again. But my all powerful, all wonderful God has plans for me. For his plans are not to hurt you but to br with you. God bless you for sharing this, this was a powerful brave thing May God bless you.
God can’t be held responsible for physical dilemma things on earth, he would not want to control it either - God is spirit. You were unfortunate, that is very tough for anyone to go through. Forgive and be grateful for what you have. I hope you find other things in your life to truly enjoy, seek and you will find. Be true to yourself, be yourself.
Dennis not at all up set about this, for the 8 months of rehab was able to share about our wonderful God. Thankful for not getting hooked on painkillers. Was given a big old script for them. To this day I share with others about this. It went from why God to why not me . Ii learned from this that many would turn away from God I embraced God even more. This was a great adventure for me.
11:06 Yes, this is an issue for many and I'm quite empathetic as well with people suffering with this type of 'loneliness'. Thanks for sharing - beautiful video
you bring so much feeling and emotion to your playing, it comes really from deep down your soul, it sound also very spititual, it's comparable with Larry Carlton his playing, it comes from the same place, so feel well brother because this playing is real and beautiful and a healer ! the thoughts and feelings of anxciety, depression we can only ask help from God, he will turn it around 🙏
BEEN THERE MY FRIEND....!!! Thank YOU for This Sensitive Story. a year for me!!! Was crazy.....over religion and a woman!!! Awesome Triumph Thanks To The Heavenly!!!!!
Thank you so much Jon for your testimony! Such a blessing. The relationship is what kept me going when I had my depression issues too. Praise the Lord for his saving power. Love your guitar playing as well. So blessed to watch you play. I wish you could teach me honestly. Anyway, blessings to you my friend! Pastor H.
Amen brother , Phillipians 4: 6 & 7 / Fellow musician 52 years of playing, now in church! Also had to take Klonopin for 23 years...….and I just bought an HB SC Custom..... ;-)
I have loved your guitar videos (especially the G&L ones) for a long time. This video came up on my feed 18 months after you posted. Thank you for speaking so openly about your mental health and its impact on your daily life. Your story and words and resonated with me in a way I was not expecting. I think this may be true for many other people too. Thank you again Jonathon
Johnathan your depression video was a great inspiration to me. Thank you for sharing your love for God. He is an amazing God! And speaking of amazing, I am in total awe of your playing skills and how soulful you are. Keep making your videos!
Thanks for having the courage to discuss a difficult and very personal subject. At the end of the day, we're all human and sharing your strength and experience might very well be something someone needs to hear today.
I could feel your emotion your empathy your love and your bravery. You are a good man Jonathan, I love you as a person, you have a kind heart and have great wisdom from your life journey. God bless you and your family in all that you do. Oh and I love the tone on the tele you were playing, it really suites your style of playing too.
Jonathan. I am a new person on your channel. I am a a closet guitar player. This video has helped me realize I am not alone .depression is a wide spread malady. The music, and friends , and family are the bottom line in our lives thank you I care deeply thank you agaian.
I also went through the type of depression you are talking about. Didn't understand it but got through by God's Grace, Thank you for stepping up and sharing, people across the world need to hear of Faith and Trust in our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Thanks again. Enjoying your music.
Thanks for sharing your story and battle with depression. Ed Welch’s book “Looking up from the Stubborn Darkness” has been a big help for me and many others as I have looked to the light of the gospel to work through and understand times of darkness.
Even been myself new to this channel, your testimony has touched me. This is an amazing proof about God love and your human quality, courage and love for your neighbor. God bless you too.
Brother, it's so nice to see the comments because it gives us hope that there ARE some wonderful people out there, and that certainly is heart warming... and your opening up to us viewers is even more heart warming...a sensitive soul you are... I too have had, and still have some very, very intense years that I can not go into detail here at this moment... The mountain I have been trying to climb (life) is ever so, so steep and seems impossible to say the least, I have the hardest climb up ahead and I am hoping that I CAN climb it and get over this hump in life, so I can live the rest of my these years happily and peacefully... In today's society people DO look at you in a strange way when one speaks of religion, and personal beliefs. What's really scary is the new world order and their agenda to destroy the family, and ideals of love, and believers of God so as to make the population weaker and not have the strength that true love, God, and family togetherness actually gives us all!! Now, I not only respect you as a musician, but as a person... THE almighty God has spoken to you, and through you... I am NOT afraid to say that I got teary eyed when watching this episode.
Just remember you are not alone....although we may not be with you in person we are there in spirit right by your side...Stay strong..and hopefully your journey will be a good one...take care My Friend.
Amen buddy. We all have struggles with stuff. I know all about Anxiety and Depression!! Not a good thing 😢😢 Thanks for sharing. God bless you ❤️🙏💯. Keep being that "LIGHTHOUSE". I'm sure you know what im saying. 😊😊👍👋💯🎸🙏🙏. ( Been sober for 33 years and counting. Got Baptized, Seen visions of Heaven, visited by Spiritual Guide, Heard God's voice, felt his power etc etc etc. I've been Blessed too Thanks to Jesus Christ. ❤️🙏💯). He Transformed my life too. Stay Reverant in the Lord Keep your eye on the Sparrow 🙏💯
Jon thank you for sharing! Been described for a bit, but just found this video. That took some courage friend. Thank you. God has helped me with depression also, in the US when you become disabled the Government makes you fight to get your disability checks started... its so silly. So for 4 years i brought in no money for the family. Luckily we have no kids, but 3 dogs.... they like to eat too!! But God was Always by our side, he never wavered!! Im doing well now, plus my pastor xame up to me 1 day and says " you look like you play bass.... i said no nope... he said " No you LOOK like you PLAY BASS"..... So now i play bass on our praise and Worship team... lol. Jammin for Jesus as i like to say!!! Love your videos!! Keep'em comin, thank you from a fan in Alabama USA !!
Thank you Jonathan for your testimony. I am sure that your message has blessed someone today. I am an old rock and roll musician and play every day when possible and love your channel. Your reviews and good nature have blessed me in so many ways and I thank you so very much. I do not attend church but I am a Jesus freak that loves the Lord so much! Peace my brother from the foothills of Mt. Rainier in Washington State...USA.
Thank you for sharing your bout with depression. I draw strength from your sharing. I find your sharing most authentic and your demonstration of compassion for people who are suffering. Would love to hear your testimony on how God has directed your life. Hope you can find the time to share your testimony. God bless you!
Hard to comment on a subject I know nothing about, although like you, I have no religion, but have personal beliefs that have set me free from the worldly indoctrinations (raised a Catholic) that were ingrained from a very early age. And as time passes and new technologies and discoveries have uncovered a world of knowledge formerly unknown, those early precepts have given way to personal growth and a determination that would have been very helpful to a younger me. In my mind, whatever makes this life fulfilling and makes us whole, that's what we should concentrate on. Whether it's religion or music or a deep seated spirituality, whatever gets us to the next level of understanding, do that. Thank you for the courage to speak on this very personal subject and for being supportive of those that may be experiencing the same things in their life. Keep up the good fight!
I been battling since I can remember the problem I have is that I contain it inside, I do the same thing I escape to my room, I picked up the guitar 2 years ago ,the guitar is my theraphy, but the other problem I hide it very well, going back to my room it's a safe zone you can controll it, medical help is fine but medication I believe is not for me, prayer helps, learning the guitar keeps my mind off of things, i found a great quote from the book of Psalms King David wrote "I will fear no evil for you are with me" Pslam 23.4 I do have a religion I remember my Parish Priest said God is always with you , Jonathan I understand where you coming from , I know I need to talk more but there is fear that I will just break down , it's a battle my friend, I am glad I found your channel, you are true honest soul, I thank you for being open , but I agree Christ will never leave us if we are open to Him in our life , God Bless you Johanthan ; Brian
God will never leave you nor forsake you dear brother...Cry out to Him when it get too hard. Remember God is love...and He loves you! Keep strong! God bless you Brian ❤
@@JonIsJustTooLoud Thank you Jonathan it's a battle but we will win we have the best defence on our side :) Again Merry Christmas to you and your family God Bless :)

These two things are saving my life..This was a very emotional video.. Thank you sir.. I love you brother Jonathan
Sorry fo being late. Thanks Jonathan, for sharing part of your life story. Yes, Man is weak, and many forget about that. Most importantly, Thank God for Guitar!!! Glad to have found your channel.
Your music is an inspiration, your videos are an inspiration, but nothing compares to your courage. You are brave for sharing this piece of your life. Thanks so much!
Hi Johnathan, thanks a lot for sharing your experience of such an intimate matter. Fortunately I haven't had such problem in my life, but I've loved (and lived with) a girl that have passed some troubled times in her life, to me not too far from being depressed. Our story comes to an end a long time ago, but the bound between us never broke up. This person was for me maybe the most important person for making me become the person who now I am. To her maybe it can be the same... Infact we constantly refer to each other when we feel the need for some words of wisdom with a simple phone call (as now we live far apart). I' ve listened with lot of attention to the wonderful things you said, and really appreciate the part about reaching for people who need help. Mind all of you, people with depression never show their problems. Detecting depression is a lot about being able to read some minimal signs... And as you perfectly explain, those people are not "weird"... Maybe they are just more sensitive. But in my little experience, they can give a lot of love to all of us. Again thanks for the marvelous post. I've always appreciated your guitar playing, now I know the beautiful human being that you are. Thanks a lot Luca from Italy
Grazie Luca mio fratello..I thank you for your encouragement..And yes it's hard to spot someone who has depression. But if we pay attention to the ones closest to us, we will be able to spot it. Most times we dont even have to say anything..and we must definitely not judge them. They are our friends who are in need. Most times, all they need is a friend nearby..one who would sit and keep them company. ♥✌
Well done Jonathan, maybe the hardest video you have had to make but you said it all. If you make one of us reach out and help a soul who is lost in their own dark world then your job is done! Your guitar playing shines bright for us all but your compassion shines even brighter! God Bless my friend. :-)
Thank you for sharing something which is deeply personal and a very raw subject. I went through it with my partner some years ago, she went down the road of taking overdoses on prescribed medication. It was a very dark and hard time, for both of us. Stay safe Jonathan and once again, thank you.
No one's alone, but feels so, and if everybody knew that word distracts us from our essences of a lovely GOD's Creature s people rushed to church and thanks GOD, for everything and clames for HELP!!! And finally, i understand wy yopu play the way you do, because of a soul expression of gratitude. Thank you and GOD Bless you.
So often I have went through similar emotional turmoil and you feel like no one could ever understand. Thank you for having the courage to share your experience. People can argue theology but no one can argue your experience. So many are hurting and feel so all alone. Thank you for reaching out and letting us know that there are those who understand.People who are injured and experiencing physical pain are not judged for having pain, but for some reason hurting on the inside is seen as being weak and pathetic, but it is not true. We all hurt and we all need each other. Thank you for sharing so much! You are such a blessing! Keep shinning brother!
I've suffered off and on with depression most of my life. More so it seems, lately. Coronavirus, or old age, I don't know. It just seems like everywhere you look there is so much treachery, and evil. Not much love or honesty. I lost my religion a long time ago. It's not that I don't want to believe, I do. I just can't. I used to believe there was this equalizing force in the universe that balanced all the bad with good that eventually won out at some point. But, evil seems to have won the battle for people's souls. I've decided that I choose goodness over evil and let it go at that. There are still a few good people out there, like you. Thank you! Take care and God bless you if He's still listening.
Dear brother.. trust me He is❤️ Don’t let men dictate what your relationship with God should be. It’s a personal thing and that’s why religion is not the answer. Jesus is✌️❤️
Hi Jonathan. Thanxxxx for sharing. I think a lot of sensible persons (and musicians) do have once in a lifetime these problems...Each person (must)should find it's way....for me its music, nature and the love from my friends. In my opinion its very important to speak over depression! I wish you all the best. Thanks for your openness🍀
Its brother.. the problem of that they are unwilling to share because they don’t think society and friends will accept them.. I think for our part, we should watch out for those around us who are in need.. ❤️✌️
I found your channel one week ago and subscribed soon after. I find your guitar reviews therapeutic experiences, honest and interesting. Also your playing make me want to buy all the guitars you test :). I quess we are from same generation (I'm 52) and although we go different path (I'm atheist) I find it always great when people find things that give them balance and calmness in life. I find you very beautiful human being, never forget that. Love, peace & thank you!
Hi Timo!! Thank you and welcome to the channel!! I was once an atheist and that’s probably why friends were so surprised that I became a Jesus believer haha. Anyways.. have a great weekend✌️❤️
Very uniquely moving and inspiring testimony, Jonathan. I can certainly relate to your struggles so, more power to you for sharing openly and helping others. One thing I'll say I know for sure is- you have God given tone, brother! ✌🏼😎
God bless you, brother. I stumbled across your channel looking at reviews for Harley Benton guitars. I've been going through a hard season of loss, and I am so happy to hear from you about your faith. Thank you for the encouragement.
thanks Jonathan for this message............what would life be wihtout Gods Love and guitarplaying..........thats what its all about..God bless you Jonathan..
I think we, people of arts, live closer to our feelings than others. We live them more intensely, in part because we feed on them to then express them in our arts. We crave on feelings, and that has good and bad points. My friend David, with whom I played in my first years as musician, took his life a couple years ago. He was tormented by his own perception of his talent. He thought he wasn't good enough and he many times refused to do the things that gave him life, because he was afraid of not being as good as he wanted to be. Go out, talk to people, enjoy life. Live. There's not a single way to do it, and we won't know until we are done. Cheers and thanks, Jon.
Great courage, kind friend.......Thank you for all you do and for creating such beautiful music for all to enjoy. Great talent, great personality......You ROCK, Jonathan!!!! I have issues as well.....and this past Monday I had to say goodbye to an angel of a 4-legged friend......feeling very somber as of late. Your video helped me feel a lot better. Thank you!!!
I'm so sorry to hear that!! My dog Cody just went for a removal of 2 small tumors on his gums..I'm praying that all will be well. Will wait for the good report from the biopsy. You take care brother! "HUG" Godbless!
@@JonIsJustTooLoud Thank you for the kind words. I used to be an animal specialist at my local shelter until I suffered too long with compassion fatigue.......it destroyed me to have to walk away from those animals. Cody will be in my healing thoughts. Keep an eye out for me asking how it went. Huge HUGS to you, kind friend!!!
May God deliver you from this pain Francis...May He grant you peace and protection. Thank you for sharing...God Bless you 🤓✌
I have a friend who suffers with depression and one day when we were talking about it I said 'it's a pity that you don't have a broken arm or leg instead of depression', he said 'what do you mean'? I said 'well with a broken arm or leg people can see what you are suffering from, but they can't see what's going on in your head'. When I worked as a Compere I worked with many very famous people and many of them suffered with depression. On the face of it they had everything, fame, money, fans and yet off stage they were not happy people.
I sometimes think that life is all about balance, when you have a 'gift' be it in music, art, entertaining people it seems that in some way you have to pay for it. I wish you well my friend.
You , my brother is spot on. You need balance in your life. God bless you Ron✌️🤓
Jonathan, Your courage is an inspiration. If more of us shared as you have, the world would transform overnight. Thank you for your gift of your truth!
Thank you for your encouragement🤓✌
I’m in tears at the breakfast table as I reflect on Jon’s video and the testimony of you all. Same story, but different patterns and experiences with depression, for me. My heart is broken for you my brothers and sisters, both in the body of Christ and in the body of musicians. I want to thank you all for sharing! It helps so much to know that we are not alone in this journey. Peace to you all.
God bless you Jon... God is Love✌️❤️
Thanks Jonathan, for making yourself vulnerable and sharing such a deep and personal part of yourself.
I just needed to share 🤓✌
Thank you! Being obedient to God is the most important thing we can do. To God be the glory.

God bless you Jim.. I’m glad that you are able to find peace in our Saviour✌️❤️
Thank you for sharing brother...May God bless you 🤓✌
From being being a very chilled strong guy as I am, about 15 years ago I went through a series of full on panic attacks, you can’t control them, your whole body shakes, you are helpless, it’s a feeling very hard to explain for anyone to who has not had one.
“I will never leave you nor forsake you.” Amen!
✌️❤️
Ransom Baggins thank you for sharing brother.. and Amen to that! God is 💓 Godbless you
Depression is NO joke my friend, I'm thankful you were very honest.
And may He continue to watch over you brother...God Bless you 🤓✌
A year ago I went through a break up. God Bless!
I’m Glad you got thru it.. take care brother ✌️🤓❤️
You make the world a better place
**hug** thank you Jonathan
Thank you Peter!! Have a blessed Christmas✌️❤️
Psalm 46:1
Take care brother and God bless! ✌🤓

...I was in a band in my college days in Los Angeles.
@@oldschoolfunkster1 thank you brother...YOu hang in there! Will be praying for you :)

YOu're welcome Frank...take care✌♥
Thank you.

The Church, I think is slowly getting better about how to deal with depression, but it is still learning. As the members of the Church continue to share, like Jon has, I hope and pray we figure out how to help more and judge less. Thanks for sharing, Eric.

Thanks again, Jon. Have a Merry Christmas.
Hey Jon, I think your a great dude, with a lot to share don’t think nobody hears or sees you because they do. Especially god, he understands why some of us get down. But you get back up, and never give up. It’s all worth it, and thanks for sharing this, helps me beat my depression
I'm glad brother..May God keep you close to His heart 🤓✌
Johnathan, you are truly a good man putting it out there ( very personal stuff) so that others can find help. I am a Jehovah's Witness who loves the guitar and has some battles with depression. in the end we are all human and subject to our weaknesses. Continue in telling everyone that love (for one another and god) can ultimately concour all of this worlds problems! thank you, once again!
My pleasure and honor Joseph.. I hope you are doing fine these days. May God bless you with peace and protection ✌️❤️
God bless!!! ✌🤓
Thank you Geoff did your encouraging words. I’m glad to know you are over it as well.. God bless✌️🤓❤️
Thank you for telling me God loves me...It means a lot to me...
God bless you Asher.. take care ✌️❤️
Thank you David. Godbless you❤️
Nothing to Apologise For Jonathan ....Thank You
God Bless✌️
And thank you for sharing ♥
Thank you for sharing. May God continue to watch over you and cover you with His protection. And yes.. His word is life! ❤️
Godbless you dear brother✌️❤️
Thank you for sharing Jon. I (and I think a lot of folks did) had a bit of depression during the COVID pandemic. During the worst part if I thought it would never get better. I knew a few people who died or were hospitalized and that really bummed me out. But as you say, God never abandons us. He has a plan for us for a future and a hope.
Amen.. He is love✌️❤️
Thank you for your encouragement David! Have a blessed Christmas!🤓✌
Recovery can be a long process so do not be to hard on yourself time can be the greatest healer of all.👍😊
Thank you Alastair ✌️❤️
Thank you brother J - how amazing to wake up today and see you witnessing to me,
Godbless!
We need to speak openly about our mental health challenges because it is more common than realized. We’re not all professional counselors but we are all able to pause and listen as a sacrificial offering to someone who is hurting. We don’t have to “cure” that person but we can listen and encourage. It will us to make a difference in our lonely modern world.
yes...all we need to do is to be a friend...empathy...not sympathy or pity ✌🤓
Thank you for sharing. I too spent many years dealing with depression. I now help others come out of the same darkness. I call it coaching for lack of a better term. Only if you have experienced it can you understand. Again thank you so much for sharing. By the way your music is very life affirming filled with hope. Rest in the love of God and keep being Jonathan.
Thank you for sharing. May you lead many out of darkness. God bless you✌️🤓
I would like to hear your testimony.
Smurf431 thank you.. have a blessed Christmas✌️🤓
Roy Chan thank you Roy for being so encouraging ❤️
Hi Jonathan , thank you for that brave and generous video, you are truly blessed in many ways , you have your beautiful wife and family , you have a strong faith and you have a real gift for making beautiful music , even the three chord tricksters like me who watch your regular videos can see your music takes you to another place , it's also plain to see from the comments here from your online fans and friends the admiration , support and warmth towards you. All these will keep you strong .
Thank you James! I thank God for the community here..such a blessing to me! ❤
JB57 well said and shared dear brother!! We all need Jesus especially now. God bless you✌️❤️
In 2015 I was hit by a car. God bless you for sharing this, this was a powerful brave thing
May God bless you.
Thank you for sharing Dwight! God bless you 🤓✌
God can’t be held responsible for physical dilemma things on earth, he would not want to control it either - God is spirit.
Dwight Wild you are a champion Dwight! May God drew you closer each day❤️

I have loved your guitar videos (especially the G&L ones) for a long time. This video came up on my feed 18 months after you posted. God bless you tooJorge✌️❤️
Thank you for your sharing and encouragement my Spanish brother. May God watch over you and protect you 🤓✌
this community is awesome !
Just remember you are not alone....although we may not be with you in person we are there in spirit right by your side...Stay strong..and hopefully your journey will be a good one...take care My Friend.

God has you in His sights brother! Godbless ✌️❤️
@@JonIsJustTooLoud Amen!! Now if God will grant me a 10th of your talent, I'll be a talented man!!🤗😀
Thank you Jonathan for your testimony.
God bless you dear brother!!!❤️
Thank you for sharing your bout with depression. I draw strength from your sharing. I find your sharing most authentic and your demonstration of compassion for people who are suffering. Would love to hear your testimony on how God has directed your life. Hope you can find the time to share your testimony. God bless you!
Yes..I'm planning to..✌🤓
Hard to comment on a subject I know nothing about, although like you, I have no religion, but have personal beliefs that have set me free from the worldly indoctrinations (raised a Catholic) that were ingrained from a very early age.
Thank you.. have a great Christmas!!✌️🤓

Thank you Julio! ✌🤓
Thanks a lot
Luca from Italy
Grazie Luca mio fratello..I thank you for your encouragement..And yes it's hard to spot someone who has depression. But if we pay attention to the ones closest to us, we will be able to spot it. Most times we dont even have to say anything..and we must definitely not judge them. They are our friends who are in need. Most times, all they need is a friend nearby..one who would sit and keep them company. ♥✌
Thank you Jonathan. Thank you thank you thank you. Just sent this to a friend. I look forward to your videos every week. God bless you
Awesome!! I sure hope it helps.. 🤓✌
Well done Jonathan, maybe the hardest video you have had to make but you said it all. If you make one of us reach out and help a soul who is lost in their own dark world then your job is done! Your guitar playing shines bright for us all but your compassion shines even brighter! God Bless my friend. :-)
Roddy Robertson thank you Roddy for your encouraging words! Have a blessed Christmas✌️🤓❤️
Thank you for sharing something which is deeply personal and a very raw subject. I went through it with my partner some years ago, she went down the road of taking overdoses on prescribed medication. It was a very dark and hard time, for both of us. Stay safe Jonathan and once again, thank you.
You take care Stephen ✌️❤️
No one's alone, but feels so, and if everybody knew that word distracts us from our essences of a lovely GOD's Creature s people rushed to church and thanks GOD, for everything and clames for HELP!!!
And finally, i understand wy yopu play the way you do, because of a soul expression of gratitude. Thank you and GOD Bless you.
God bless you too✌️❤️
So often I have went through similar emotional turmoil and you feel like no one could ever understand.
Thank you for sharing brother..and also for your encouragement. God is love 🤓✌
You're an amazing musician! Love is the answer to a lot of problems!
Yes it is! 1st Corinthian 13 ✌️❤️

@@JonIsJustTooLoud You're welcome Jonathan.
Depression is real, and is more prevalent with artists. I think we have a wider range of emotions, and the lows are lower, but the highs are higher.
Yes I observe that too...but it hits normal people too and just as hard...✌
I found your channel one week ago and subscribed soon after. I find your guitar reviews therapeutic experiences, honest and interesting. Also your playing make me want to buy all the guitars you test :). I quess we are from same generation (I'm 52) and although we go different path (I'm atheist) I find it always great when people find things that give them balance and calmness in life. I find you very beautiful human being, never forget that. Love, peace & thank you!

I always watch and enjoy your videos, but I have never commented. How could I not to this brave, touching, kind sharing of your story. Bless you.
God bless you brother! 🤓✌
I’m so sorry for your loss brother. I was blessed to have great friends to help me. God bless you✌️🤓
Great courage, kind friend.......Thank you for all you do and for creating such beautiful music for all to enjoy.
Huge HUGS to you, kind friend!!!
drummer4hire12 God bless you brother ❤️
