Spending time with my Japanese Family in rural Nara🇯🇵 Driving 1000km from our remote island

We're away for a couple of weeks visiting our family in Nara prefecture on the Japanese mainland.We decided to drive this time,a journey of around 1000 kilometers with a ferry ride in the beginning from our remote countryside island to the Southern port and city of Kagoshima,home to the still very active Sakurajima volcano!
After enjoying a few days at my Wife Yumi's family home,we headed up to her Grandparents house in the mountainous area of Yoshino in Southern Nara.It's a place we always enjoy spending some time at whenever we're up this way.
We visited our family gravesite as we're actually here during Obon in Japan.
It's not an official national holiday but many people take some time off to return to their home areas during Obon.
And often participate in ceremonies which commemorate and remember deceased ancestors whose spirits are believed to temporarily return to this world in order to visit their relatives during this time.
We also visited a delightful Shrine in the area where you can collect fresh water and spend time around a sacred thousand year old tree.
A great couple of days with family in a different countryside setting.

Great video. Thank you for sharing. Curious to know cost of living for a family in Japanese countryside with children. Have you made any similar video? Seems around 3 million yen per year income is comfortable?

No problem,glad you enjoyed!…Cost of living is a little cheaper in the countryside.Difficult to give you a number depending on your circumstances but I’d say your estimates are pretty accurate😊
