Thank you!! Funny enough I got the idea for this video because I put an outfit together which looked fantastic in my head but when I saw it on video I was horrified 🤣🤣🤣
Thank you for your response. Thank you for your experience and I love that you are also height challenged! It is so helpful that you took the time to show the difference in the color of the shoe. The butterscotch vs. the lighter tan! Amazing!
This was INCREDIBLY helpful!!!! Additional videos about ways to dress in a more flattering ways to disguise the lack of height would be most appreciated!
My favorite shoe in all of this is the slingback, flesh toned flat. To my eye, that looks perfect every time. You are just beautiful, Lori and your taste is impeccable!❤Kathleen
Hi Kathleen! Thank you so much! Those nude shoes just seem to go with everything and they are the easiest for me to pair with outfits. Hope you have a wonderful weekend!! ❤️❤️❤️
You know, you hit the nail right on the mark with this video. It made me think about the times I've worn pants with shoes that have the higher vamp and for some reason, it just didn't look right to me! I don't like it either when the hem of my pants gets caught in my shoe. I'm 5"2' and that bugs me. Personally, I find that if I wear a shoe that covers most of all of my foot, I like it better if there's a bigger gap of skin between my hem and the shoe. Showing a little more ankle, for me, really does the trick! I always like my outfit better when I style it that way. Thank you for putting words to something that bugs me too!
I agree with the posters who said it was quite helpful to actually see you wearing the shoes and showing them side by side. I can really see the comparisons between all the shoes that way and yes, there is a big difference in how they look. I saw your answer and I had to laugh as just this week I too put together an outfit that looked great in my head and hanging on the hangers but when I put it on it looked awful. Then I had to scramble and throw something together in a hurry. I really need to put together an emergency outfit for days when " but it looked great on paper" turn out to not be so in real life. Thanks for your video, I really enjoy your channel as a fellow 5 foot zero petite.
I can only wear flats so this was video perfect for me! I’m just 5’1” so I realize it can be tricky so when in doubt I’ll settle for a ballet flat or some semblance of a tennis shoe and try to color coordinate! So thank you!☺️
Could you please do a video on which styles of SNEAKERS us petite ladies should opt for, and which ones to avoid? You really have an eye for fashion, aesthetics and proportions! 😘
This is my first time seeing any of your videos. I'm so glad I came across this one in my feed. I have been trying to wear flats a little more than heels, when health issues challenge me. Your tips and showing side by side was very helpful! I will be searching for more of your videos!! Oh, and ladies...we are not vertically challenged! We are space efficient!😅
I enjoyed watching this and I’m not even short, in fact I’m tall😅. To be honest a lot of these principles apply to us too! Being tall isn’t all it’s cracked up to be to be honest😮. You looked lovely in all of these outfits Lori ❤ x
Thank you for some more great tips! I just purchased a new pair of flesh toned slingbacks! Still winter here in Nevada near Lake Tahoe but looking forward to wearing them!
These tips and ideas for shorter women and dressing is a great idea! I will check out more. Challenges are real as an older 5’4” high healed wearer from the old days finding more lower shoes that are stylish, and fit the widening/health older foot challenges that we have. 😑
Thank you Kim! Flesh tone shoes have become such a go-to for me. They make getting an outfit together so much easier! Thanks for watching and commenting! ❤️❤️
Didn’t realize the difference it makes wearing low vamp nude shoes. I try to coordinate my shoes with my outfit to look put together. Boy was I wrong! I do love slingbacks and pointy toed shoes. Now I realize why I’m attracted to those styles. Real eye opener when you compare the shoe style differences side by side. As always Lori, I learned something new today. Thank you!❣️
Thank you Linda, so kind as always. ❤️. There really are no wrong answers with shoes just mostly comes down to preference. I feel like nude shoes work with just about anything. Hope you have a wonderful weekend! 💕
Hello I like this video I am petite too 4"11, this video open my mind on what shoes to wear that help me look taller. Can I request if you can make a video all about formal dress , I am going to attend my niece wedding this coming september 2024, I dont know what to wear . the venue will be in a hotel.
In look #2 a classic black loafer w/ a low vamp would also work. Those newer loafers with wedge bottoms always seem to have a high vamp. Totally agree with you about ankle straps cutting off your leg esp. if you are petite. I am 5'2".
Thank you for the tips on the shoes. Finally, a video with petite styling tips where I actually learned something new! Never knew about the effect of the vamp of the shoe but it totally makes sense given the reasoning behind why all the other tips work, so thank you;) A tip I have for you to appear a bit taller and leaner would be to increase the rise of your pant. Especially the jeans you're wearing in the first example. You appear to have a longer torso and shorter legs like me. I find that when I wear a higher rise jean, rather than something like the one you're wearing, it reverses that effect, making my legs appear longer instead. Take a picture in the mirror of the jeans you're wearing in that first example and then another picture, in that same outfit but with a higher rise jean. You won't believe the difference and you'll probably end up throwing out all your other jeans in that rise, too. At least that's what I did;) Thanks again for the shoe tip!
US brand Naturalizer has a beige pointed toe slingback with a 1.5 inch heel this season. I bought them in black AND beige! They also offer it in a cap toe beige/black. So cute, and comfortable too. I wore them shopping all day yesterday. Loved them!
@LoriLundquist Yes, I purchased the Banks. I noticed that designer Veronica Beard has an identical style, but hers is $375. It pays to shop around! VB does have more color options, but I draw the line at around $200. 😘
I was wondering about women of color. What would you suggest for a flesh colored shoe? There are infinite numbers of skin tone. Maybe you could incorporate your advice for all of the women. I love your advice! It totally makes sense when you show us w/side by side pics. Thx! ❤
Hi! It’s a great question and the reason I referred to them as flesh toned. Because we all have a unique skin tone. I have noticed some brands offering a range of natural colored shoes which is fantastic for all of us. A lot of the neutral shoes I have are not the exact color of my skin, but rather in the color “family” which works. It’s not so much about matching your exact skin tone as it is about not creating a stark difference between your outfit and shoe color. I hope that makes sense? Thanks for bringing this up! ❤️
Thank you for your help. My problem is that I’m 5’4 at the border between short and regular but I have a longer torso and short legs. So I find myself going back and forth
I can't wear any of those type shoes as I have problems with 1 of my feet beeing so painful and was told to wear trainers so will they work in the same way in making my leg look longer as I'm quite short! Thank you, ❤
I’m also 5’ nothing…and not tiny! I’ve been updating my wardrobe after weight loss and a reduction, but I can see that my footwear needs an update as well!
So helpful, Lori! As a 5.1 gal, this makes all the sense in the world and the side by side visual really shows the difference a pair of shoes can make! I have flat AND wide feet but really skinny ankles, go figure! I'm a size 8 in shoe which makes it even trickier! I almost never wear black shoes unless I have on black pants/jeans b/c it just draws to much attention to my clown feet. lol. I think I will be buying those slingbacks. They're lovely and look great!. In what style jeans do you think loafers look best? New to your channel and happy to find you. :)
Hi Maria! Hahaha you are too funny! I will be honest with you, loafers for me are so tricky!! Personally (just my opinion) I like them best on me when my jeans are just slightly cropped. It drives me crazy when the bottom of my pant hem gets stuck in the top of the loafer. That being said, I see other people wearing them with straight leg jeans and relaxed style jeans and they look great!
And if you want to take the flattering elongation of the leg even further, choose a peep toe neutral flat. You’ll be amazed at the difference that also makes. Showing the toes elongates the leg☺️.
Hi Sue! I filmed this video in early spring when these types of shoes would be worn. For fall, I typically wear different styles of pants that accomodate and look better with boots etc that are more fitting for fall. It's an excellent question, and actually a good video topic!
Very helpful, thank you. Now for a new question that no one ever answers.... what if you wear a size 4 shoe? There are almost no choices that also accommodate a bunion.
Oh that is a tough one for sure!! Have you searched for that topic on RUclips? I wish I had an answer but I can imagine the difficulty! I will keep my eyes open for something that may help ❤️
There are some good shoemakers that make shoes in a European size 35, which is really more like a 4.5 US size. Of those, Naot is the best. (Israeli company, high quality and prices from $160 - $250). Munro shoes don't have a wide enough toe box, and Naturalizer only makes 5 styles in size 4 now (and also too narrow in the toe). On the other hand, for sneakers .... if hot pink, rainbow, lavender or lime green are your thing.... every sneaker company makes children's shoes. Just hard to find nude in a closed-toe child's shoe.
I’m 5’1” and I need shoes with an ankle strap as my feet slips off. So, how can I wear these shoes without being cut off? Can you make a video on this? Thx!!!
Agree on the examples about the shoes but your tops seem to be making you look shorter too---but that could just be the camera angle. 🤷♀There's a rather simple rule of thumb to help us shorter women keep things 'balanced'---The more horizontal lines you create, the shorter you'll appear. That pair of shoes with the ankle strap is a good example of 'what not to wear'...plus she's paired it with shorts, yet another horizontal visual line.
I have wide toes and narrow heels. I can’t wear any of these shoes. I most flats are completely uncomfortable. Ballet flat shoes are just as uncomfortable.
Hi Di! You can wear any kind of flats with a dress. I know not everyone can wear them, but I am loving the pointed toe sling back flats. You could also do a ballet flat or even sneakers.
Note how much slimmer the model looks in white straight trousers than she does in tight legged jeans her hips look small and her legs look long…avoid tight legs anything
Great video. Not a fan of mules....I do have a pair of CH animal print that I will wear occasionally Got to watch out for toe cleavage.....I don't know why that bothers me so much 🤣
This is by far the best explanation of why some flats work and some dont. Thank you!

Vertically challenged is body shaming.
@@patricias5122 seriously! I stand 5’1.5” and refer to myself as vertically challenged. It’s not shaming, it’s a joke!

What about the heel part of the shoes sticking out oddly when one's wearing pants?
I have so much trouble keeping a sling back on. I love them but…. I definitely need more flesh tone shoes.
Hi! Oh I agree they can slip off of my heel but the ones I’m wearing have an adjustable strap so that helps so much.
I wear most of my shoes and sandals even booties in neutral to make my legs look lil longer...and only black sometimes 😊

All the videos I watch are short pants and shoes with no socks. What do you do for the late fall and winter look and and shoes? Thanks…
Hi Sue! I filmed this video in early spring when these types of shoes would be worn. For fall, I typically wear different styles of pants that accomodate and look better with boots etc that are more fitting for fall. It's an excellent question, and actually a good video topic!
Which flats that are low vamp are comfortable?
Very helpful, thank you. Now for a new question that no one ever answers.... what if you wear a size 4 shoe? There are almost no choices that also accommodate a bunion.

I’m short, but that isn’t the problem. My legs are short and my body is long. When possible, I try to wear a low vamp with a slight wedge.
If i’m wearing full length black pants and skirt, is it better to wear nude flats or black flats?
Either will work its personal preference. Both will look nice
As a short girl, I never think my outfits look good without some sort of a heel - even though my feet would prefer flats!
I get that, same!
Jeans and pants are always a little tricky for me because I am 4.11 😅
Totally understand! :)
I have wide toes and narrow heels. I can’t wear any of these shoes. I most flats are completely uncomfortable. Ballet flat shoes are just as uncomfortable.
What can you wear with a dress? When you have to wear flats?
Hi Di! You can wear any kind of flats with a dress. I know not everyone can wear them, but I am loving the pointed toe sling back flats. You could also do a ballet flat or even sneakers.
Hello Lori, you are not that short ... I'm only 1.58 m ... ☹ ... it's hard to find nice chlothing ...

So true I would kill to be at least 5 ft. I am 410 now that is short and it's very difficult to find clothes and styles
Lori, can I ask you what your shoe size is? I am now shopping the kids shoe dept.because size 5, 51/2 are virtually impossible for me to find.😒
white shoes or sneakers would optically lengthen the legs most with white slaw!
I like look 8 but I would change the color of your top, the black top cuts you in half, with a lighter color top you would look taller. JMO
I think that the shoe color should always bevthe same as the color of the pants, unless you are wearing shorts
My biggest annoyance is finding sneakers that do not have white soles.
Do you mean like the rubber or black soles? Sneakers are so “trendy” right now I struggle to find ones I like as well
