The c6 gs is a dramatically better purchase over the z06 for 99999.99999% of people.
The ls7 is a race engine at heart and paying attention to valve train run out every 1500-4500 miles is monotonous and paranoia inducing.
The “fixed” oem heads are not a permanent fix.
The issue with stock ls7 heads is the 11° valve angle. The valve angle is self destructive.
Brodix did extensive research on 13° and 11° valve angles during the 70s (pre dating their official company founding.)
Brodix found the 11° valve angle to be self destructive.
From the added valve flexion from so little rocker/trunnion movement from base circle to peak lift. That movement position the stem pressure to move laterally and pushes the valve guides out of spec. Eventually allowing the valve to rock and push a keeper. In turn dropping a valve.
Keep in mind brodix isn’t the only head designers and engineers to speak on the 11° valve angle being plagued. Multiple sources have/had the same findings while testing and developing heads on push rod ovh engines
It is the absolute best angle for maximizing efficiency for a ovh push rod engine and is still used consistently for race engines that get rebuilt after every race.
The best aftermarket heads for the ls7 are the ones that relocate the valves to 12°-13°.
You’re going to need 10k worth in top end work. For the weakest block in the ls family.
The grand sport gives you the absolute best features without having to purchase a zr1.
Same chassis, width, interior, suspension and depending on roof line and transmission. a dry sump and hand built ls from the same room as the ls7 and ls9.
(Do not mention the ls3 being the weakest based off the ret*rd from the sales department from lme.)

I was gonna get a base C6 but remembered how much I regretted not getting an STI when I got my WRX so that’s why I went with the Z06. It’s better out the box.

I’ve had two c6 z06’s drove them for years on stock heads never had an issue. One of mine I owned went from 70,000 miles to 90,000 miles with no head issues. I did eventually put heads on both cars but had them both a long time on stock heads. The head issue is real on some of them but I think it’s over blown.

Your help sucks. The ls7 is not well made, the valves will drop. I can mod an ls1 or ls2 that will run circles around ls7 and save 10 to 15k. The ls2 and ls3 pretty much make the same numbers in real world performance.

Sounds like the LS2 and LS3 is for you then for your build plans👍

sounds like a poors mentality. z06 is always king.
