  • Theodore Roosevelt was a great lover of nature long before he became president. From boyhood throughout his adult life, Roosevelt's enthusiasm for conservation was encouraged and shaped by several influential figures. Early on, TR's uncle, Robert Barnwell Roosevelt inspired his nephew with his tireless struggles on behalf of conservation policy. Later, Roosevelt would meet the naturalists John Burroughs, George Bird Grinnell, and Museum ornithologist, Frank Chapman. During his presidency, Roosevelt would call upon them as trusted advisors. One of his greatest political allies in the crusade to preserve America's natural beauty was Gifford Pinchot, the first chief of the U.S. Forest Service.
    The restored Theodore Roosevelt Memorial is now open at the American Museum of Natural History. Visit amnh.org/roosevelt for more information.

      At least your school is teaching you about America's greatest president.
      The Public School System has failed most in teaching them about good ol' Teddy's influence and/or nature conservation in general.

      If you want something a lot less dry/boring/for aging Millenials addicted to 80s-90s Ken Burns-esque documentaries, go watch something on him on RUclips from one of the Pop History channels. His life is really entertaining from beginning to end and he's probably the most badass president (Jackson is the craziest.) ever. It takes like five minutes and you'll probably learn something that you can put in a paper (Like getting shot before a speech, taking it like a champ and delivering it anyway.) that'll get you an extra five points just for putting it in.

    In response to the previous comments regarding the Republican Party, yeah @zombiehatred, that doesn't sound Republican because today's Republican's are very different from the Republican's of Theodore's time. The Republican Party became more conservative in the cultural sense in the late 20th century, in response to the counterculture arising in the 50's and 60's.

      Roosevelt still had to fight the Trumps and Limbaugh's of his day, though. They haven't changed all that much.

    Hello, what's the name of this song playing in the background?

    • @benjamingrist6539
      @benjamingrist6539 4 года назад +2

      I know that the song playing from 2:25 to about 4:46 is "Bonaparte's Retreat", a popular folk song from the 1800s.
      As for the song playing at the beginning and end of the video, I swear I've heard it before but I can't remember the name.
