  • Ben Hammond gives an in-depth demonstration of 16T.
Taking its sonic cues from the industry standard compressor limiter found in every live and studio rack, 16T produces tight, punchy compression with a character that is immediately recognisable.

Great video! The side chain filter description was a little confusing. The SCF doesn't change what's being compressed, only what the compressor is responding to. The compressor is still compressing the full range signal, but the SCF can "hide" information from the compressor so the compressor doesn't "see" all the high frequencies of the kick drum in this example.

I was also confused about this description!

Love your videos. I’m used to the type of compressors that operate is show dbfs values. if you have some time, could you explain your gain staging for these types of compressors. Thank you.

All of this guy's videos would be better if he didn't continuously talk over all of his audio examples.

I second what davidtaylor43 commented. He doesn’t really let enough time for one to hear the audio differences of what he is saying 🤷🏻‍♂️

      Hello,
We gladly create and share these videos as a starting reference point, and to share insightful usage from Engineers.
I recommend as the best way to approach an audible analysis, to test this yourself on audio coming out directly from the console.
      Cheers,
      Rafael

Great Video again,. But one doubt i have. You used the 16T Compressor to get the Transient out of the Kick in and again u say u use it to take away the transient of the SD-Bottom. I Dont see here any attack time. so how can one make sure once it let Transient and once it blocks Transient? Thanks in Advance for a detailed explaination.

Hi Priyan, The 16T Compressor has different attack and release characteristics depending on the amount of gain reduction. A small amount of gain reduction equals slower attack and release. More gain reduction equals faster attack and release. We have a video that goes in-depth on this here: ruclips.net/video/ecHwtmiWKm8/видео.html
      Thanks! Alex
