  • In this IGCSE versus ICSE video, Wolsey Hall Oxford parent Shipra explains the main differences in the two educational pathways. Shipra has two sons who are homeschooling with Wolsey Hall in India. Currently at lower secondary level.
    wolseyhalloxford.org.uk/about...
    The main difference is the flexibility in subject choices. The IGCSE curriculum studied by students of age 14-16 allows students to pick the subjects they enjoy and are strong in. Aside from English and Maths, which is required by many Universities, there is no requirement to take any specific subjects.
    The IGCSE and A levels (studied by students aged 16-18) are also accepted by Universities worldwide. Students should be careful to ensure their choice of IGCSE and A levels allows them to continue on to further education in their chose field.
    As you can see there are some key differences when considering IGCSE versus ICSE.

    Hello ma'am,
    You explained well ,thank you. 🙂
    I have query regarding the weightage given to the scores of A level(Cambridge Class 12th) during the merit calculation if the child is applying for Indian colleges.
    As far as I have heard, children usually score higher in languages in the ICSE AND CBSE boards, so will the Cambridge board passouts be at a disadvantage ...or, are the A level scores given separate weightage in Indian colleges??

      A levels are accepted by top Universities around the world so is an important qualification. We would always recommend you talk to your College of choice to understand their requirements to make sure A levels and the subject combination you want to take are acceptable to them.

    Hello mam, We are from India. If my daughter appears for A level exams as a private student in India, is she eligible to appear for NEET UG entrance exam?

    Also, should IGCSE be chosen only if the parents plan to send the child abroad?

    • @WolseyHallOxford
      @WolseyHallOxford  2 года назад

      IGCSE is a good choice as it is accepted by top Universities around the world. We would however recommend you check with the University you plan for your child to attend to make sure they are happy to accept the qualification.

    Hi, is it ok to change from ICSE to IGCSE in grade 7?

    • @WolseyHallOxford
      @WolseyHallOxford  Год назад

      Yes, IGCSE actually refers to the exams that students study for typically aged 14-16. From what you are syaing, I think your child would be on our Lower Secondary level courses and it would be absolutely fine to switch over.

      @WolseyHallOxford  2 года назад

      Our IGCSE curriculum is typically for children aged 14-16 and includes an external exam. Take a look at our website and you can see the courses we offer at IGCSE level: wolseyhalloxford.org.uk/level/igcse/
      This video will also give you more information on the UK education system and how IGCSE fits into that.

    2:53. I must respectfully point out that this bit of information is somewhat incorrect. One does get to choose from a variety of PAPERS offered by the Council for the CISCE exams . They are however bound to sit for certain papers such as English and HISTORY, CIVICS AND GEOGRAPHY(HCG), ONE SECOND LANGUAGE AND ONE ELECTIVE(e.g. computer applications OR Economic Applications being the most common choices, One may not opt for both of these .)The Council offers about 20 elective subjects. I personally chose to study Western Music for my ICSE. The video was quite informative otherwise. Thank you very much!

    • @WolseyHallOxford
      @WolseyHallOxford  2 года назад

      Thanks for your comments Rudraksh. I think Shipra was trying to explain that there is complete flexibility of subject choice when studying with Wolsey Hall Oxford. Although we recommend Maths, English and Science as a complete minimum, students can study as many or as few subjects as is right for them. They are also not required to take any subject, so if History is not their thing, then they can choose a different subject instead. We offer 21 IGCSE subjects, so there are plenty of options. Studying with Wolsey Hall Oxford also allows students to study at their own pace and at a higher or lower level than their age might suggest. So if a student is gifted in Maths, they might start their IGCSE Maths early and continue in Y9 for other subjects for example.
