  • Double Bob and the ringing down (dubbed the "Pistorius Lower" for reasons apparent!) on this interesting 4 in Warwickshire with an unusual history. The bells sound OK and go reasonably although the treble likes to drop! Although the tenor is out of tune, well picked out in the recording, it didn't actually show up when the bells were ringing full circle, although it was painfully apparent when chiming at the bottom of the lower!
The present tower is the third one in which the bells have hung in; the mediaeval church in Ettington Park until 1803, the new St Thomas' from 1803 until 1909; then finally to the present day church. The tenor was recast in 1803 and a new frame was provided by John Waters of Kings Sutton in 1803 before rehanging in the "new" St Thomas church, where the fat but stumpy tower still survives as a residence. Some fittings were renewed by George Day of Eye upon rehanging in the new tower in 1909.
    Tenor 10cwt in G#; Tuning 1,2,3,4# of 4

I like these old straight wooden Yokes and when the Bells still have their Crowns.

They're 1-4 of a ring in G, but the tenor is a semitone sharp...
