- My current attempt at remastering back to the future the ride imax film reel footage. this version with optical compensation.
Video's used:
blu ray rip (center box)
vhs pre release capture (outer edges) credit Koren Young
old youtube vhs (for some colors)
Software:
adobe premiere
adobe after effects
Methods:
Aligning each frame to 23.97 fps
detail preserving upscale and noise reduction
unsharp masking
frame blending to 60fps in camera movement areas
colorizing black and white footage
minor cuts and edits to make transitions smoother (no time/frame loss)
Audio
Back to the future the ride theme (music)

You work on this video is clearly impressive! Wow The full ride lives again! I really hope that someone like you will do the same for the STAR TOURS Ride of DisneyLand

This ride used to be at universal in Japan too. It was really great, main inspiration behind my custom simulator builds.
I love how you can see the manure falling from the top half of the vid when the ride ends. They had an ending planned where manure would drop on Biff.

Great work, thanks for doing this. Douglas Trumbull's ride film for this ride is an unsurpassed work of large format photography, model work, art direction, and dark ride. It's nice not to have Doc Brown's voice in this, he narrates a bit too much and it's distracting.

4:01 on top of the bluray scan is that the scrapped ending?
yeah but this is the old video you are watching I cleaned the ending up a tad when i redid it and yes it stil has that scrapped ending to fill in the missing edges of the final ending
What is this alternative ending you speak of?! :)

Captive8 Media Ltd - Video Production Company the alternate ending was manure was going to be dumped on Biff. On some of the other versions of the video on RUclips you can read the words MANURE on that container.

there's no real sources for the original star tours films. The only reason I can do it with the back to the future ride is becuase there so many different sources for footage it's possible to combine them.

Hey! I'm trying to make a detailed VR recreation of the ride in Cinema 4D, could you link me with a download for the 4K version?
you can use the newer version in my videos list (this is the old version) but keep in mind these have been reformated to be used on flat screens and you need to start with the original omnimax file to get the ratio right. otherwise you will end up with an image that is far too warped. I've seen people time and time again keep using the wrong file and end up with the wrong ratio in their VR conversions.
Thanks so much! I'll do my best to make it accurate, right now I'm just playing around with the car animations. Maybe down the line I'll try to perfect it.

I Can't Believe the 70mm Imax Copy Sold a Few Years ago for only $400! And to A Private Collector. I wish we Could find out who Bought it so that it can be Copied to 12K!
There are MANY copies in circulation. The tape was changed every 8000th run and the ride did about 10 every hour so you do the math 😉
Daniel Valø if the park is open 8 hours a day, that’s about 80 runs per day, so it would take 100 days to go through one tape. The ride in Hollywood was open for 5201 days, it had 2 imax screens, so around 104 copies from Hollywood? The ride in Orlando was open for 5812 days, again with 2 imax screens. Would come out to around 116 tapes for Orlando. I’m gonna assume they probably made only 100 for both?
can you do another one without the box? the box just kinda ruins it.

The "box" is what was presented on the Blu-Ray. It wasn't the whole image from the IMAX negative, but it was the best Universal Studios Home Entertainment was able to do.

I think just a single motion control vehicle on this ride was over a million dollar piece of equipment. what are you planning on using for the motion control system and syncing and timing

thank god. here i was worried that i would never find a film copy of the ride , but then you show up! thank god you have the film strip and uploaded a proper 4k copy of it. unlike someone who might have comented without doing anything related to the ride. I sure do hate when people comment and have nothing to contribute , but you sir are not one of them! when you you think you'll be done restoring the footage?
