Suggestions: Slip a piece of inner tube over the pipe to prevent scratching. This is more important if you hang the bike by the frame than if you use the seat. (I suppose you could use the skin from the snake but I'd recommend using the inner tube.) Also, consider using composite decking when the wood decking gets too many splinters. Pressure-treated southern yellow pine is really lousy decking. Composite lumber is more expensive but worth every penny.
Nice work Seth! I busted my ass slipping on some wet wood, and the combo of soap will make it even worse. I’d recommend some strips of grip tape on the wood so you don’t slip, especially if you’re barefoot!

Dude, I'm so loving your videos. Glad I stumbled across your channel. Just got me a new MTB after a 25 year hiatus from riding (now 46). Wish me luck haha! :)
Same! I stumbled across his channel a couple months ago and literally wanted 90% of his videos in a week. Got back out there and I've just bought myself a brand new purpose-built bike!
Me as carpenter , I think this is brilliant and pretty good way of completing the task just by yourself. My only worry is that your platform may sink into the ground because of water and soft dirt
I was thinking the same thing, he made a great project. Holes a little deeper, level it, then a small amount of dirt so the bottoms of the lumber are out of the concrete so water in the wood can drain through, then concrete to fill the rest of the hole. I also like other's suggestion of course gravel under the platform to reduce run off erosion.
Seth, not sure if anyone has already suggested it, but it would be well worth it as well to put some stone crush under the platform to prevent mud build up and corrosion developing underneath. It will also help improve the drainage of the water.
Nice build Seth! One thing I would advise for future projects is the use of concrete around the posts you bury. Reason being is Termites and wood having the tendency to rot when buried. A bag of pre mixed Quick Crete is only a few extra dollars and makes a huge difference to the longevity of what you build. You might have thought of this and didn't want something so permanent, which is totally fine. You can also buy a coating for the ends of the posts you bury to keep them from decaying, too. PS: Stain or finish on the wood might not be a bad idea either. :D
He did say he was going to sell the house though. Maybe that is why he did not do that. Much easier to dig up a bit of wood than getting concreate out of the ground if the new owner does not like it.
That set up is definitely sweet. Your carpentry work looks good and you can ask 5 carpenter's to each build a box of the same dimensions and they'll each do it a little different. Only thing I noticed that may give you trouble down the road is the posts in the ground combined with excessive water use and being a natural run off for your yard. You may end up wanting to put concrete deck footings to get those posts off the ground just to prevent premature rot and sink. But what a f#$king fantastic job 💪
We are being SPOILED with berm creek videos and I love it !! These are my favorite. Thanks so much for such creative, entertaining, and original content. Amazing work as always !!
Nice job! That is a super deluxe wash station. I sunk a post in my back yard the week I bought my house, 18 years ago for this very task. Installed a heavy duty hook, and it was off to the races. Over the years I've washed tons of bikes, golf clubs and garden tools with this wash station. One of the best ideas I've had. On the back side, opposite the bike hook, is the can smasher.
You did one mistake: you did not varnished the wodden planks, so in the long term they will start to rot. But pretty good idea with the "washstation" and i love the squirrel-thing😂
Always sweet watching your vids, so naturally edited. If i have a land like that, I'd grow wild berries, fruit trees and veggies to make it into a perfect trail food forest. Just imagining riding your perfect trail on your backyard with all the natural foods around - thats sweet
'design' Idk who harry is but I'm sure anyone with a need to wash their bikes often would come up with something similar to this, it's just a platform with a post lol not exactly a patented scientific discovery... or plagiarism ...
Hi Seth, I made a similar design of your bike wash stand. I used old pallets that i had laying around. Luckily the pallet already had a platform like yours which makes it really easy. I then just made the bike post to hang the bike onto. This stand for me is multi purpose because it can be used for washing my bikes as well as a repair stand. which doesn’t cost anything in terms of materials.

That's not true. Yes, they can bite, but it will only be a scratch (I've been bitten myself when picking one up). You only need to wash it off at most. And they also don't have fangs, but they do have small teeth.
I built one of these out in the front yard, we have a hillside house secluded in the Santa Cruz Mountains so it doesn't look tacky. Actually came out really nice, and functional. Nice job, Seth.
I've always loved this idea! I would probably upgrade it with composite decking, anti-slip treading, and a piece of PVC over the pipe to prevent scratching the bike. If you wanted to get really fancy, add a weatherproof box to hold a chain-cleaning tool and degreaser.
@MTB Plan B I can also vouch for mineral oil, Weldtite Dirtwash drive train cleaner, Dot 5.1 brake fluid and the hydraulic fluid the rockshox reverb dropper post uses. My parents where so pleased on each of the occasions I stopped by on my way home from the trails to borrow the hose pipe and proceeded to clean, maintain and properly fertilise their pristine, professionally cared for lawn with these amazing lawn enhancement products.
This looks great, so simple too. I've always just used my bike stand (cheap $45 one) outside and hang my bike on it while I wash it. Same thing but of course yours is way nicer and more convenient.
I washed my bike with dish soap, and I put some in a smaller shampoo bottle for easier access. The next week, my mom put that bottle in my bathroom, not knowing it was for the bike, so I ended up taking a bath in the same soap as my bike, and I didn't realize that until it was too late 😂😂
You know when the bassoon music comes out, Seth is about to get into some mischief. Edit: Just finished the video. I would suggest adding a removable band around the soap dispenser. I could totally see accidentally bonking it with a bike while loading and having to chase that thing down the hill.
I love this idea and when the heat here in Arizona backs off...I'm going to attempt my own bike wash station. I think I will try using a couple of pallets to make the job easier when i'm ready. Thanks!
Love the wash station. Gatta build one some day. For now i wash it on blue stone pebbles that i already have near my hose agaist my house. Its hard to make the bike stand up but at least the water can drain and the tires are left without mud before i bring it into my apartment. Nice vid ! A+
squirrelparty is one of the best things ive ever seen. id sit at my window and watch them all day cracking up the whole time might wanna wrap some old innertube around the pipe where you hang the bike from to avoid some scratches in the future
Very nice. I'm thinking of doing one of my own. Some thoughts I have had: 1. Seth I met you Breifly in VKBike park , Nice that you are doing awsome videos, very clear , didactic, with sense of humor, I am goint to instal that squirrel powered energy system in my house maybe I can charge my phone if the squirrel is stubborn enough. After Trying a lot of methods the one that works best for me is, Starts with mixing water with bike wash on a 2 gallon garden pump sprayer to apply the soapy water, then scrub, then hose, then use a Computer duster like the "X Power A-2" for to get the water out of those hiden spots.
Or drill a hole through the 4x4 to slide in the pipe, add another cap on the backside and it can't slide back out. Probably cheaper to buy the extra cap and 1" hole bit, than it is to buy those flanges.
Exterior wood screws have a shear strength of around 300 pounds, EACH. Their combined shear strength is more than enough to hold that deck, a carbon bike, and about 6 full grown men. However, if you’re an overachiever like myself, then yes, notching the posts is fancy and fine as well.
This is pretty cool Seth, I just built a shop cart to haul all my tools and parts around, this looks like a cool project to add along side it. I’m definitely gonna have to take your idea.
Pro tip: Use Concrete Pier Blocks with metal brackets instead of 4"x4" into the ground. If you have an uneven surface you can make a level surface with the pier blocks and cut different length 4x4 posts on top of the blocks using some twine and a level. Then build/frame the deck around those posts. It's a lot more simple. I did this when building a 10' x 12' x 12' shed. Came out perfectly square. I'd still use pier blocks on a level surface just to keep the wood out of and off of the ground for a bike washing station. Save a ton of time, hassle, and future maintenance and use pier blocks. They're cheap. If you're not using pier blocks at least used pressure treated wood to prevent rot. An untreated post in wet dirt like that won't last long.
Great idea. Lots of work to let it rot. I recommend painting with some good water sealer to prevent wood rot, especially since your friends and dog are using it too. Great dog btw.
For someone that's not that familiar with construction, you did a great job on your wash station... The only other thing I would do, is to add drain rock under the station to prevent erosion, but that all depends on how much use it actually gets. One other thing... for a good quality cleaner that is non toxic but highly effective... Simple Green. But make sure you don't get the marine grade Simple Green. It will eat up aluminum parts. But good old fashioned regular Simple Green, avaliable at the big box stores like Costco or Sam's, in the 1 gallon 2 packs, for cheap, it will take off most dirt, clay, and degrease with a simple spray on, let sit a minute or so, then hose off. Sometimes you'll find a brush useful, but most of the time not. Then rinse it good, and hit it with a leaf blower to dry it. You don't even get water spots, unless you're hose water is extremely mineralized. I learned about this stuff back in my biker days. Motorcycle biker that is. Washing a motorcycle, with all the nooks and crannies and chrome, can be a real PITA. But an old Hells Angels biker showed me this trick. Now me and my buddies use it for our MTB's and Fat Bikes and it works great and is so much cheaper than "bike wash" soap. Love the channel and this backyard track build! Keep up the good work!! Bob
Suggestions: Slip a piece of inner tube over the pipe to prevent scratching. This is more important if you hang the bike by the frame than if you use the seat. great minds think alike just posted the same thing then looked down and ah ummm thats awkward
maybe a layer or two of extra durable varnish will protect the wood from splintering and rotting from the water

The best bike channel who is With me ?very cool job 😍😍😎
This is the best channel ever!
Great idea. Lots of work to let it rot. I recommend painting with some good water sealer to prevent wood rot, especially since your friends and dog are using it too. Great dog btw.
1. he moved, check out his channel
2. his dog just died :(
Oh yeah, we've all got plenty of land to create a course, picnic area and bike wash...
Bob
