"The Quiet Resistance" is the third album by the Dutch formation and offers a more mature, modern, and contemporary approach than that found on Nemesea's two previous efforts. Although the band continues to stay true to its characteristic style, they do not shy away from including new elements and details to refresh their sound. The guitars and Manda Ophuis' outstanding vocals continue to be the driving force behind Nemesea. Manda perfectly understands which web of emotion to weave for each particular track and how to make use of her fantastic vocal lines to breathe life into the lyrics. With extremely appealing songs like "Afterlife", "Caught in the Middle", or the beautiful ballad "If You Could", the alternative rock quintet have several surefire hits from the get-go. Nemesea's "The Quiet Resistance" offers intense and soulful alternative rock complete with a subtle breath of gothic and loudly demands the attention the band undoubtedly deserves.
That feeling you get when you discover a new music that doesn't suck. Not too heavy, not too mellow, perfectly melodic. I love the different styles they bring in this album too! Digging it!

Its an interesting transition from their previous album "In Control". It kinda has an Evanesence meets early Linkin Park mash up. Its wicked awesome!!!!

Great band. I describe them as hard rock with some electronic pop and elements of metal. They never surpassed their first album Mana though. That was a stylish and breathtaking piece of work. I like Manda's commanding vocals.
Just found out about Nemesea last week. Love the music! Bought Quiet Resistance and have enjoyed my purchase since. Looking forward to your next album. Thank you for sharing your music with me.

That "because I do" line just really pops out and makes me feel like I'm listening to music designed for a younger audience. Decent sound, now time to see if they have any good songs.

they're prolly saying that due to the fact that her voice is louder than the music just enough that you can understand EVERY word she sings.
What a beautiful song...I was looking for something with the dynamic character and expression of evanescence but maybe with more elements from heavy metal music...and here it is! ;)

Nemesea changed and experimented a lot through it´s history but whenever they come up with something new it´s a fine piece of music :) as the older were too.

I recently discoverd these guys,as I live in Australia where we don't have this style happening much, they are just exploring and writting what they are feeling at that point in time, and if that doesn't conform to someone else's preconcieved ideas of what they "should be doing" well..... tuff!, keep it up guys you have a new convert, went and got your other 2 albums fro JB-HiFi and love them.

I agree. Their 1st CD, Mana, is perfection. I don't understand why In Control and now the newest CD The Quiet Resistance is a completely different style. Whoever created Mana needs to make a new CD - it makes no sense why this band's other CDs sound NOTHING like that one. It's weird. Listen to Mana and then listen to In Control - it's like 2 completely different bands.
That album is perfect!... :( Symphonic Gothic METAL, not like this Alternative/Electronic ROCK (I love alternative metal but rock comes too soft for me - my all-time favourite band is Evanescence who are alternative metal/gothic metal/hard rock/nu-metal/symphonic rock (or metal)). Symphonic gothic metal is so rare and difficult to make perfectly because of the difficult to make exact blend and combination of those sounds - and those guys were really close to perfection in this rarity, which makes them very valuable for me. The choirs, the melanchloic dark sound of gothic in them and in her voice, which is combined by the symphonic operatic vocals... AND I CANNOT BELIEVE THE NAME OF THE CREATOR OF MANA IS THE SAME WITH THIS (I like this but it's just good, while Mana was FUCKING PERFECT). Why they have changed to this mediocrity?!... :( :( :( :(

I get the feeling a lot of people saying this is 'too mainstream' or 'too poppy' are saying that purely based on the lead singers appearance. There's no way you would hear this on main time radio (at least in the UK you won't).
I don't care if anyone is gay or lesbian; I thought maybe she was an Angel who came to breathe hope and love back into the troubled woman. She is an alcoholic and the ending kiss is either the Angel (Manda) breathing in love and hope or sucking out the alcoholism. Each of us can have our own opinions about its meaning. It's all art and I love it. The lyrics are great. Listen to them. Maybe the Angels are inside us all?

That said I applaud US both for not flaming but having a nice decent discussion .... I almost hope it continues ..... I don't know your age but I am 42 and absolutely grew up on Metal! Foreigner, Journey, and Heart were Hard Rock examples. Metal was always defined by the drums, a generally thick layered "Wall of Guitars" or simply by the presence of extended solos , and a certain type of drum beat.

This is melodic hard rock. It was very popular during the 80's on FM radio. It consists of pop melodies injected into rock. This is clearly guitar-oriented, hence it is clearly rock (not pop). This genre combines the catchiness of pop with guitar-based instrumentation. Avril Lavigne's first album is a good example. Also some of the emo-style bands such as All Time Low and Renfue.
