What a great overview of this camera; concise and detailed. I've been thinking about getting a Bronica and have been looking at the different models. I think I found the one I like the best.
Cheers mate absolutely awesome kit, sadly I drown mine not long after this, bloody sea water fried it....I have an earlier ETR kit which is pretty good. What did ya shoot with yours?
Hey Paul, Greetings from raining England. Sometimes you tube throws up some really rubbish suggestions on my feed but this time it threw me you and I am so glad it did…. I have now watched 4 of your vids this morning, especially interested in the Bronica ETRSI as would like that to add to my bag for landscapes. I shot film as a kid and managed to get my hands on a mint Olympus OM10 & was gifted a Pentax ME super but also like a good charity shop find, recently picked up a fully working mint Kodak Duaflex for £10 which has wet my taste buds in the 120 medium format, the results were beautiful. Sometimes my digital set up leaves me feeling emotionless and wanting but going back to film in the last 4 years has put the smile back on my face and finding you and your channel has put a bigger smile on my face. Thank you for taking the time to do what you do in making excellent videos full of relevant info and with feeling and emotion that inspires. You have a new subscriber 🎉
Hey mate thanks sooo much for your comments and patience to watch my efforts. The ETRSi is a gorgeous system, tragically mine was killed by a rouge wave at the beach, I have an ETR as a back up, but miss the ETRSi. Totally agree re. digital, I shoot it all day at work and although I love it's speed, convenience, cleanliness etc I do often find it a bit sterile, so I mix things up by shooting film and old cameras just to keep the interest and challenge alive. Not much these days gets me fired up quite like hitting the opshops (opportunity shops in NZ) like charity or thrift shops, looking for a pre-loved camera to try out. THanks again for checkin out my stuff I'll return the support XXXX

I got my ETRSi, hmm, maybe 14 years ago? Bought it used and it came with the body, the waist level finder, a prism finder II, the pistol grip, a 75mm and a 150 mm lens, a 120mm back, a 35mm panoramic back and the polaroid back, plus a speedlight flash. Don't think I paid more than $500 for the kit and I've never had a problem with it in all these years. Great camera. Just wish I had the space to set up a darkroom :)
Agree mate a darkroom would be awesome these days just don’t have space although deving film is easy enough. My ETRSi was solid love her literally to death salt water is pure evil. I have a older etr body and love it almost as much. Thanks for watching mate

Late to the party but a good, no nonsense video made by a pro who could strip down and re-assemble an Etrs blindfolded. The Bronica is a cracking "little" camera with some excellent features and sharp lenses. I've owned a few MF cameras in my day like the Hasselblad (too expensive) and Mamiya RB (too big and cumbersome) and have finally settled on the Etrsi because it's inexpensive (relatively speaking) and small (relatively speaking), is easily customized and has some really nice, affordable lenses. There are a lot of videos out there with flashing logos, pounding music and "t-shirts available in our online store" but not too many done by people who actually know what they're talking about....so well done you!

Thanks for this trip down memory lane. Back in the 1980’s, I professionally shot with the ETRS. Well, I had THREE ETRS bodies... I kept on on the camera stand, one on the shelf as a backup, and one was at the repair shop. It was a constant rotation, never getting more than 6 weeks before something would break on the camera body. 😳😖 The lenses were beautiful, though. And the 645 format was excellent, especially with interchangeable backs that the Mamiya 645 didn’t offer at that time.

The top one is for multi exposures the lower one is mirror lock up I’ve never used either feature though so not sure how they work hope that helps mate cheers for watching
I know this video is a little old now, but I'd love to see a little demo on the multiple exposure mode and how you might wind film backwards to shoot forwards again with these types of film backs.
Hey mate the multi exposure is something I’ve never done not even looked into it but from memory there’s a lever on the frame advance side of the body take your first shot engage the lever recompose and shoot your next shot but honestly that’s just a complete guess multi exp is something I don’t do. Actually I have the manual in the van somewhere if I can find it I’ll update my guesses with facts 📷❤️
Try this mate To make multiple exposures rotate the film winding crank (to advance the film and wind the shutter) and then turn the multiple exposure lever in the clockwise or arrow-indicated direction. When set in this manner, the shutter can be released and wound any number of times, without advancing the film.
You have just made my mind up whether to gt rid of a full Bronica SQ-A system, grip 4 lenses, 4 backs and a Bronica ETRSi, grip lenses backs system in exchange for a Mamiya 67 one lens and one back, NO CONTEST.
Hey cheers mate it’s an awesome system for sure. Colour I get done at a lab the dev the film and scan it for me I don’t have wall space for prints 🚐🤣 black and white I’ll develope myself using whatever chemical I have at the time I currently use a neg to digi converter which I think is very average for 35mm negs but not too bad for 120 they are adequate for RUclips vids mate 📷❤️ thanks for taking a look

Hi Paul, Just want to say thank you for review this camera. I have just received mine today. I would really like your help on getting the right viewfinder, as in the one that you look through with your eye. I'm not sure what the name or type to get as there is different options online also what is the lens type you get for it. Sorry for the silly question as. Just trying to get back into film. Thank you for any help
Hey mate cheers📷📷 the one I prefer is the waist level finder WLF where you look down into the camera the other types are prism finder basically more like looking through a traditional camera the type I have is non metered because I use a hand held meter but there is a metered prism finder too. The Beauty of the prism finders is they make it far easier to shoot vertically for say portraits. Lens wise mine are ME lenses I have the standard 75mm and the 50mm from what I understand PE type lenses are the better option. Hope this helps a bit mate shout out if I missed anything and congrats on the camera you’re gonna love the Bron

Also, will do! If you have Instagram I post there at @paradoxyc
Cheers!
Picked up 6 of these for. £20 thanks for the video I’ll try it out
mate you've got 6 bargains there enjoy
Hi Paul! Great video! I do have a question… what are the two switches above the winder for?
The top one is for multi exposures the lower one is mirror lock up I’ve never used either feature though so not sure how they work hope that helps mate cheers for watching
Nice video! Look forward to shooting with one...!
Cheers Dirk, it's a pleasure to use.
@@paultaylorphotography9499 by the way: what is the music you used on this video?
@@dirkpeeters2949 I’ll check later mate n get back to ya it’s a free one from you tube music love it maybe dan lebowitz he’s awesome I’ll check asap
@@paultaylorphotography9499 yes I know of the lever but ive never tried it out. Not sure how to approach, I'll try your way
@@tygagliardone4617 I’ll dig some better info mate let ya know good luck
Try this mate To make multiple exposures rotate the film winding crank (to advance the film and wind the shutter) and then turn the multiple exposure lever in the clockwise or arrow-indicated direction. When set in this manner, the shutter can be released and wound any number of times, without advancing the film.
You have just made my mind up whether to gt rid of a full Bronica SQ-A system, grip 4 lenses, 4 backs and a Bronica ETRSi, grip lenses backs system in exchange for a Mamiya 67 one lens and one back, NO CONTEST.
Awesome kit mate love what you’ve got 📷📷📷❤️❤️❤️
Great video - thanks. Processing - do you do it yourself or have it done by a lab? Any recommendations if the latter? Thanks again.
The lab I use is in Auckland NZ called the black and white box theblackandwhitebox.co.nz/
No such thing as cheap light meter it's budget priced but it serves our purpose, it's a tool I have an analog Sekonic 308 old school and Gossen Ultra Spot and Minolta all tools for certain job. Good video from a user
Spot on mate that wee sekonic is an awesome tool. Thanks for watching appreciate it. Im sad to report during a beach shoot a couple of months back a rouge wave caught me out soaking the Bron I cleaned it off ASAP but the shutter mechanism is buggered it will not fire as soon as lock down is over I’ll send it in for repair luckily I have an ETR body knocking around somewhere so have to dig it out dust it off and keep away from rouge waves 😞
Hi Paul,
Just want to say thank you for review this camera.
@@paultaylorphotography9499 thank you so much. I'm going to look at that right now. If I need anything, will definitely pop it in the question here. Thank you again
@@bobbydiamonddazzler3939 awesome mate just on drive to work so I’ll check later mate 📷❤️📷
Great, I’ve just got back to film after a very long time just with digital, and fallen in love with it again. Shooting 35mm at the moment but seriously looking at getting a medium format set up, seeing this and the shots you get off it I think the Bronica will be the way to go. Just need to find a reasonable enlarger that will do medium format as well. Great vlog and keep up the brilliant work.
Matt Whitehall hey Matt thanks for having a look mate. Glad you’re back into film over last few years I’ve had the odd dabble with it but honestly since I dug out the bron I’m hooked there are a few fb pages dedicated to Bronica and occasionally there’ll be some kit for sale. An enlarger would be awesome kicking myself about selling my durst years ago then again it wouldn’t fit in the van 🚐🙄 lll checkout your work mate cheers 📷📷📷
Paul Taylor, yep I know the feeling I had a Durst M605 colour head and practically gave it away. Not my finest hour now looking back, but you do these things,

THANK YOU SO MUCH. THIS WAS SO HELPFUL. I just bought myself one and I had no clue how to use it😭
Hey mate so welcome I’m actually impressed you got something from it 😆 gear reviews aren’t my thing at all stick with the bron mate it’s an epic camera you’re gonna love it shout out if I can help I’m happy to try mate cheers Paul
Thanks for the video! I just ordered one, did I understand correctly that it can meter electronically with a different viewfinder?
Awesome mate you’re gonna love it yeah there’s a metered prism finder Bronica AE2
There is also the AE 3, which I got. My understanding is that the 2 goes thru batteries faster.
Great video.
@@mikejankowski6321 cheers Mike didn’t know about that one I’ve not tried the metered finders I’ve got a basic prism and use a hand held sekonic. Just love the Bronica kit to bits mate 📷❤️
Just got the etrsi.. haven't shot a roll.. been handling it and understanding it.. tested all shutters and they are working fine.. that means battery is good but when I press battery check button, I don't see a red light in the viewfinder.. any thoughts?
Mines the same mate might be the bulbs gone or the connection is faulty it doesn’t affect mine mate enjoy it’s an incredible system
@@paultaylorphotography9499 okay thanks.. bout to get some portra 400 and shoot a roll!
@@M9rkAnthony112 love porta but try Ektar too I love the stuff good luck Mark 📷❤️
@@paultaylorphotography9499 copy that.. also, shoot portra 400 at box speed or overexpose and shoot at 200?
@@M9rkAnthony112 to be honest I shoot box speed majority of times seem to give good enough results mate
So the Bronica does not have any way of changing the ISO settings?
Hey Brian no mate you set the iso on your hand held metre from memory there could be a film back that has iso settings on it but would need to research hope this helps mate
@@paultaylorphotography9499 yeah it helps. I just got a roll of velvia 50 and when putting it in to shoot, I was a little puzzled, so I checked RUclips for references and found your video. Also did I hear correctly that you said if the battery is low, the shutter speed pretty much locks at 1/500th of a second?
@@TheBgfain hey mate thanks for watching and yeah the Bron needs a battery for full function without one it only fires at 1/500 so I’m an emergency where the battery dies you can still shoot albeit in a restricted way. The ETRSi is still mt fave camera even tho I killed mine a while back salt water is pure evil. Enjoy mate
Great camera! I like to meter that way too.
Rob Moses cheers mate it’s a cracking camera I can’t put it down 😆😆📷
is there a battery slot for this camera?
Yeah mate in the base near tripod mount

Can you help me to remove lens from Bronica etrs
There’s a button on the left below the lens press that and turn the lens counter clockwise mate
The PE lens are the best ones
wayne grundy hey Wayne yeah I read that it would be interesting to do a shot by shot comparison
paul, im a recent owner to the etrsi i was just curious about whether youve ever had some issues with the film back. as i understand, my copy’s back has an issue where the counter dial wont advance. the film and winder advance, but the dial seems to get stuck. any opinions would helpthanks !!!!
Hey Max no sorry mate never had an issue like that there’s a face book page for the ETRS maybe that could help 📷❤️
Christopher commented: "Hey Paul, sorry to trouble you. I'm playing with my ETESi, however I'm a little confused about the whole 'Mirror Lock-up' subject. I know this sounds such a dumb question, but when do I want it up ..."

********For some strange You Tube reason I can see part of a question in notifications yet I can't see the whole question or anything on the video to reply. So hope this helps mate. People use the mirror lock up mainly during long exposures when the mirror activation may cause micro vibrations resulting slight blurring of the image. Personally I've never used mirror lock up so can't really say whether or not it makes much of a difference. Hope this helped mate and hope YT sort out the comments / notifications thing. Regards Paul
I love my ETRSi.The only problem I have is that the shutter does not always fire when I use the cable release + mirror up. Does anyone else have this problem?
Only used the cable release a couple of times likewise the mirror up is not something I usually do
SQ or ETRSi?
ETRSI mate, I'd love to try out the SQ one day.
