A grinder and paint makes you the welder you ain’t
One of AvE's favorite expressions! 🤣
I mean still have to put enough down to grind lol
If you need to grind... youre a grinder... not a welder
@@fortifiedflowarts Farthest from the truth. The fit makes the weld, if the fit isn't right and you have big gaps to fill, then grinding will be required before the final cap pass. Personally I don't like the look of welds on high end fabrication anyway, welds being ground smooth make your parts look closer to factory and more uniform.
Gotta finish it first lol
This is the sema content I really enjoy
so much more real. sometimes car culture feels like reality tv
I've seen better welds on backyard drift cars no joke.
Rushed work is my only guess
Yeah, a lot of these are due to rushed work. Some of welders can do better but don’t have the ability to since clients rush their SEMA builds.
Alex Choi has no excuse tho. He’s been driving the Lamborghini since April I think lol
@@Badassing
I'm amazed that parts on that thing haven't stress cracked at the "welds".
School desks have better
0:10 ass ahoy
"...and i think to myself, what a wonderful weld"
Get yo lips fixed
I graduated from a tech school. Welding students used to always give each other shit about whos welds were better. Kinda cool to know this isn't just a high school thing.
Also, I didn't realize how shitty Alex Choi Lambo looks up close. I do like his idea. But the welds are terrible. With the amount of money he's put into it, you'd think the welds would be clean. Maybe he doesn't have as much money as we think? Maybe he doesn't care? All I know is you're reading some gibberish from a guy who drives a Camry.
The Diabetic Senpai Right on Camry dude. I’m here to say your opinion still matters to me. 👍🏻
Welp now you’re known as the camry dude in the comment section. 😂 RESPEKT
Lol
I'm taking a few welding courses at a tech school right now, already passed the mild steel portion and beginning aluminum on Tuesday.
Well most of Alex car was done for free as a sponsorship so he isn’t really going to complain.
Choi is just a tool to begin with. Almost takes out a biker once. Money doesnt mean brains.
Rob just seems like a straight up cool dude.
He's not a virgin tho ...

Some of these welds he looking at aren’t horrible
Been welding for 20 years, and I agree some of the welds weren't half bad.
yea he said he wanted a refresh of a decent weld and then found some good ones
Some weren't pretty but some were hazards. I'll take an ugly weld as long as it works
For sema I think you should expect something better
As a person who works for a welding company, although a lot of the "bad welds" he showed would hold more than adequately, when you go to a show like this, presentation is 90% of the job.
My philosophy; your welds need to look as good as they hold for something like SEMA
I thought everyone knew Sema's Slogan
"Good from far, but far from good"
Idk why this stuff is so Rushed all the time..its not like SEMA is a surprise.. its the same time every year. Why is everyone always rushing last minute why not start right away for what could be great next year?
iBash Gaming , i was thinking the same thing while watching the Foose E type video. Jeez Chip, you’ve been to enough shows. Get the car done a couple weeks before so your guys don’t have to give up their lives for some rich guys toy.
@@playwme3 See that's the problem, this isn't the only show they're doing all year. Throw in pebble beach, good guys, detroit autorama, Sema, PRI, and before you know it, this rush is your life year round.
Have to wait last minute to stay up with the trend
I thought its because builds for sema cant be worked on before a certain date. Its not something they get a year to work on its like a couple months hence the rush jobs
@@LA-nb5zt who would enforce that? You could even wait a year.
I just realized my daily driver is a sema quality show car.
Me: I should go to bed its 2am
Also Me: Watching weld critique on yt at 2am.
Just let it happen
Bluetooth driveshalves were popular from what I saw online.
I have been a welder for 8 years, and many of those welds look perfectly solid. Some were scary though.
I’ve been waiting for SOMEONE to make this video!!! Thank you!!! The amount of garbage they let in is a complete disrespect to all the true fabricators out there.
Does anyone else dislike how he’s not like enjoying everybody’s hard work but rather dis them and he don’t even have a build there??
To answer the question: No, you aren't the only one who doesn't understand it's a joke.
"don't have to be good at it to know who's bad"
Good quote.
Michael Jackson knew who's bad
“how many art critiques, are artists?” 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 I’m gonna take it as, u don’t know how to strike an arch 😂
Damn all you welders are mad sensitive
@@BradenCarlsonAutos he said something funny. i acknowledged it. how is that sensitive.
Not sure what’s worse. The welds or your camera skills.
OOF

“Time for some refresher content” cuts to rob dahms awd 4 rotor
I'd rather the welds be strong, than pretty
A good portion of these are neither, lol
Yes, but it is Sema. Sema as show-quality
Good but beautyfull
@@BradenCarlsonAutos and you know there neither, just by the appearance??
Phil Ortega 3:37 lol
He roasted tf outta Alex Choi without saying a word😭😭😭
with daycare spec welds like that, what you see says more than you can say
He should be roasting the shop that built the car.
But then again that dude said he had semi intakes on his Lamborghini.
Assuming he’s never seen a semi intake.
Thanks man I appreciate it I own the red Ford truck @one_sick7 we worked hard to make sure everything was perfect glad to see something appreciates the welds.
danial lee badass work for real
danial lee good stuff dude
Not a fan of brodozers but I can appreciate the craftsmanship

Sorry to hear you gotta walk alot.
Nothing new. A show supposed to based around quality products allows mostly flashy junk into the show made by mediocre fabricators. Used to go to sema in my younger years but got tired of wasting the time and money to go see trash builds. There might be 1 gem of every 200 there. And i already watched rob dahms build soooo. Of course i didnt go this year
Did you watch b is for build tho
most of those welds were bad but not all of them, obviously good tig weld looks better than good mig weld, sometimes tig welding just isn't necessary.
He obviously doesn't know the difference between a structurally sound weld vs pretty looking. You hit the nail on the head tig vs mig.
Absolutely. There is a reason a lot of these welds are Mig'd. Not everything he showed was a custom piece meant for individual display; some are manufactured pieces built with profits and manufacturing time costs in mind. There may be some splatter, but they're structurally sound pieces. If everything was all hand tig welded no one would ever be able to afford bolt on pieces like lift kits or bumper bars etc.
Only crappy thing about mig is the cold start. Once the bead starts flowing it's a non issue. Preheat helps.
Alot of the welds shown are either way too hot throughout or too cold. No excuse really, not even being rushed.
@@clintonepps3666 most of these welds are mig and tig
Still no excuse for leaving spatters on show cars and just painting/chrome plating over them!
Weld beads are my go-to inspection on so-called high end builds! It's refreshing to see someone else looks for these subtleties that your average car enthusiast would otherwise overlook. I've been blown away by backyard builds with incredible welds and same for top dollar Hot Rods with birdshit welds. Not gonna lie, I've smoothed and and applied Bondo for some welds I've done but hey, it looked CLEAN!
Looks like Ray Charles welded with his feet
It's the imagery of it that is so funny
- Mike Finnegan
Went to SEMA once. And my reaction was, this is the best of the best ???
Never going back.
"You dont have to be good at the craft to know when someone's bad at it" nothing more true, or more contentious, has ever been said hhaha
As a welder I can certify these as bruh moments
RIP in pieces
Oh my god the “TT lamb”. That was hands down the worst. 😂🤣
after seeing the welds on that lambo, i see why the turbo blew up as soon as he got it back
Well, you know. Using a wirewheel takes time. Time you don't have when you waited until the week before to throw something together.
Markworth yea he doesnt understand most of these cars were put together in DAYS
@@NonstopGam3r2250 perhaps they should prioritize the quality of their work when they have such little time
Exactly what iam saying he probably wouldn't even make it to SEMA because he would still be welding
Mad Mod cant focus on welding if you start the WHOLE process a week before SEMA, idk why they waited so damn long to start but eh
I've been a welder fabricator for 20 years then welds are embarrassing definitely not certified welders
U know most of this stuff is hurried to just make it to SEMA right
You dont need certs to work or be a bad ass welder.
@@hemiboy9860 I agree with that doesn't change the fact a lot of them welds are extremely dangerous and if you're not a hell of a welder you should have no business welding on suspension parts or components that's extremely dangerous and Reckless I've been welding for 20 years I have 14 welding certificates including my nuclear welding certificate and I used to teach welding and what's a welding inspector at a very large company if you don't understand the fundamentals what it takes for a good weld don't pick up the welder unless you're learning them on scrap metal people can die from Bad welds
@@hemiboy9860 a welding teacher over 20 years ago told me a lawyer has there signature a professional welder there weld is there signature at once parts are painted or powder coated they're not going to go back and fix anything the Lamborghini with the exoskeleton is all over RUclips driving all over the place and if I was him I wouldn't give him $10,000 for that Lambo but he could pay me $10,000 to properly fix it
@@thehotwheelshunter Hell yeah, who ever welded the lambo shouldnt be allowed a workshop poor craftsmanship
next time go find "GSI machine and fab". those welds will renew your faith in weld quality. we dont let ugly leave the shop....most times even i have to sneak out the back.
This is the best comment on this video lmao
I’d be shy to do work like that and display it on my dinky little channel, if I was going to SEMA I’d be missing some sleep to make sure the welds looked perfect!
Matt's Garage and probably not start preparing the car a week before SEMA
Holy crap, this was actually interesting! BUT when it comes to the offroad vehicles (well-used/functional, not show-truck trailer queens) the strenght of the weld matters more than aesthetics.
1:42 (link to the incident?)
I agree, there's only a couple of those welds that didnt look like they had good penetration. Most were not pretty but were representative of the product you would recieve if you purchased it. How pissed would you be if you purchased something based on a full "show" spec finish and then received actual reality production items. Id rather see the reality thanks.
So in other words, it's all just shiny garbage?
The modern Jeep crowd is where its at. These people just multiply and multiply
Theres a fella in pot county Oklahoma that could weld circles around half of these builds
Love these vids lol. Choi lambo award 🥇
Wow.....according to SEMA, I could be one of the best welders in the world ;)
The one you said you needed our help and don’t know how to call it... that was a good one. Solid welds that is above average by far. He was proud too being left unpainted and raw.
Homie just powder coat it and it'll be sema quality.
The seam splitting on the powder coating is rough... typical problem though on welds that aren’t done correctly and ground flat.
Seeing the gold dodge in the background made me laugh lol
Heeeeeeere we gooooo!!!! I love these types of vids
Thanks for making me feel better about my craft cause these cars are sick! Not in a good way
I do this same thing looking at the clothing racks at old navy when my gf is shopping
Alex Chois car... Sweet jebus those are the most "first day of welding class" ass welds that I have ever seen.

never heard of someone easing their stomach by eating chipotle
Yeah, this video got a thumbs up from me before I even watched. A+
You would think if somebody could afford a lambo with an outer cage, they could afford for the welds to be done correctly
The only SEMA video i’ll watch
My buddy was out there seen like a front end strut bar bolted onto the front diff case! 😂 just punched a hole right through the casting and sent it
I was actually talking about this with a family friend who owns a previous SEMA truck, he was saying how he noticed how some SEMA builds that he has seen before the welds have been rushed or badly done then covered up by paint.
Most of these welds are from mass produced Bolt-ons
What did you build? Can we see your welds?
Oof, That jawline Chad AF
4:19
I bet your welding is crazy good.?
On projects of that caliber it should be perfect.. I want let a weld go if it needs a grinder unless it something that needs to look seamless...
Very entertaining 😂😄
You opened my eyes for sure
Now this is quality SEMA content!
Looks like they melted crayons in the joints...
This video hurts me on so many levels I didnt know existed
SEMA should have a judges reviewing EVERYTHING on a car before it's allowed in the show. Time to raise the standards.
im pretty sure the reason why the ferrari wiper blade is in the middle is due to formal drift regulation
Yeah it just didn't have one and they needed it to compete, so they fit one where they could
That's My buddy's jeep I designed all of the sheet metal up for him in Solidworks. You wont find a bad weld on it.
The welds at 2:49 look like 6010 stick welds if it is they're not bad. 6010 doesn't look good it's made to burn in. You can actually use 6010 to cut if you turn the amperage up a little.

Dude: “Nice😎.”
This video is me driving around looling at bad roofing jobs lol
Kris mx crazed or me driving by commercial buildings and looking at shitty electrical services.
It was nice to see Rob

Sema, the only top notch car gathering where functioning cars are not required just fancy yard art imo.
Interesting see the first car you film in sema is the white VW pickup turbo. Is a common Brazilian car.
You’re right, anyone can be a critic.
They say ugly welds are the strongest. I would rather see a bad weld than a weld that was grounded down.
Some of those suspensions were dangerous.
Patrick Springer thats SEMA for ya
Always the backyard welds on the trucks
accualy thats realy painfull to watch .... ,did u examine the HGK bmw Build ... ? ,

What happens to half of these cars?
A lot of people seem to weld too hot and too fast. A lot of arrow welds and unsteady hands.
This makes me want to go full-send on my NA Lancer build and take it to SEMA
