Have you guys considered building a rig for paragliding?
I think you could do something really cool asking those lines, especially considering that existing propulsion units for paragliding are basically gas-powered boxfans. You could accomplish something somewhere between an Yves Rossy jetpack & traditional paragliding gear.

You could invent a new kind of paramotor thrust from centrifugal fans connected to the standard 2 stroke Vittorazi motor using a serious redrive ratio. This would be cool no more propellers, but a centrifugal fan or impellor style thrust system. I'd love to get rid of my propeller and use something that won't get tangled up in my lines.

You have a large EDF, but not the biggest one! this is almost twise the thrust: vasyfan 250mm 20KW monster. 40KG thrust

I think all you are leaving a big advantage of those edf motors
You can build your own edf with air running from motor side to the propellers (opposite to the usual direction) so that the propeller won't flew off, and there will be less pressure on the clip which holds the rotor(at bottom) .
You have to flip the edf upside down,
Flip 2 of 3 wires, so that motor will rotate in opposite direction,
Modify design for better aerodynamics

This device will *never* work, and I'd like to prove this mathematically if I may. Corollary #1: The more weight you have to lift, the larger the *jets* and *EDFs* have to be or the faster they will have to spin. Corollary #2: The larger or faster the blades are spinning, the more terrifying they will become. Corollary #3: The more terrifying the blades, the bigger your balls are going to have to be to get close to them. *Therefore* .... Fast Blades = Big Balls = More Weight = Faster blades = Bigger Balls = Even More Weight ... ad infinitum. Infinitum. Therefore, Iron Man will need an Infinity Gauntlet in order to fly. QED.
