- Ricomax sent this very modestly priced detector for me to try out. In this video I put it through various tests and then some live digs. To read more about this detector/specs, etc you can visit their link:

Excellent demonstration using this new metal detector... It's always fun watching your videos... 🙂
Thanks so much. This was an interesting experiment for me. 🙂
Wish I watched this before Christmas! I just searched this on Amazon and it’s a great price point for my kids. Birthdays maybe…
I want to commend you for the way you reviewed that metal detector. You gave an unbiased review of it. A lot of the reviews I've watched on here for the lower priced detectors the first thing that is said is its cheap. you can tell by how the reviewer says that, that they are not going to be unbiased. I thank you for being unbiased and just not ripping into it because its a cheaper price. The more of your videos I watch of yours, the more respect and admiration I have for you.
Thank you Michael. I’ve seen some of those and it bothered me too. Many times in life I’ve had experiences where something affordable worked just as good as an expensive item, so I really wanted to give a fair trial and assessment. Not everyone can afford something expensive or maybe want to see if the hobby is for them before spending more.
I just got the Gc 1065 for Christmas and I learned a lot from your video. thanks!
Awesome! I’m glad it helped. I hope you have fun with it and find some cool things. 🙂🍀
Great video Gin! The mystery round object is an end to a coaxial cable. Like for your tv. happy hunting!
Thank you! 🙌
Keep up the great videos, the mystery piece is the metal connector on the end of cable TV service wiring. It would screw into the back of a TV before the HDMI hook ups.
Thanks For stopping by James, and for helping with identifying that target. 🤗
That would be a RG 59 or RG 6 "f" connector. A crimped fitting that few use anymore because of the digital signals to the TV.
I have the exact same metal detector and Pinpointer you help me out there a little bit thanks Jen videos are getting good 😄
Awesome Doreen! I’m so glad. 🤗
Awesome idea having all the envelopes with different materials in them, I'm definitely gonna give that a go. I'm kinda in the same boat with nobody around to detect with and I wish I could have gave a few more detectors a go before I dropped $800 on My Garrett, but nothing wrong with it, just gotta learn the machine! That's one heck of a shovel, I was in Wal Mart and just so happen to browse by the shovel isle and they had a shovel with a small head and a long yellow handle, so I bought it and took it home, I cut the fiberglass handle down to a couple of feet with tubing cutters, drew out three notches on both sides to cut through roots and cut them out with my angle grinder, put my sharping disk on and sharpened the heck out of the points and the teeth that I had cut in, its super light and sharp and all for under $10.00! Probably would be considered a deadly weapon if the cops were to see it.😁
Yep, sounds like we are definitely in the same boat. Sometimes being self taught leads to learning unusual things, but there’s definitely a larger learning curve. Among the many other things I do, I’m also a self-taught lamp worker. When I eventually went to a retreat around others in that hobby, I realized I did many things differently because I’d figured out what worked for me. Some of the other artists even adopted some of it. Kinda wondering if this might be the same way. I’ve been really lucky to have so many experienced detectorists come on my channel and share tips and tricks. Such a great community of people. Sounds like you did the same thing with the shovel. Adapt, improvise, and overcome. 🙌🤗🍀 Thanks for stopping by my channel. 🙂
To get an even more accurate and thorough test, also bury some objects at specific depths. Bury a penny 6" down, bury a quarter 3 inches down, etc. This helps when setting your sensitivity levels, to make sure you're not missing everything b/c your sensitivity isn't set right. Metal sinks, and it sinks more the longer it's buried. If you're looking for old stuff like coins and relics, you really need to get down in the dirt. You'll only find good things more shallow if the soil has been disturbed and the item has been brought up, like with plowing, but it's very rare, so don't bet on it. Good stuff is deep. Clay and rocky areas can hold metal higher for longer, but it too eventually sinks, and can be even more challenging to detect in. You gotta get the beeps first.
Gin, this was a great review. I am going to use this method for my Boy Scouts. Who’s your videographer. Much better. Now that’s the country girl we saw before. Love the boots. You have no weight for that shovel. Too skinny. I recommended Appalachian History Detective to come visit. He is very good. You should go there too. Unique way of showing history. I love your learning curve on all your videos. They are really coming along. You are adorable. Thanks for the adventure Gin.
Awesome - I’m glad there was something in there you could use. These shovels are big for me - the struggle is real. Lol. I have different people film for me; sometimes it’s lucky Chuck (he filmed this one), sometimes it’s Stooby Doo, and sometimes it’s McHottie Rachel. They are all good sports and let me drag them all over creation. Haha
That’s good. Helps to have tolerate friends. Lol. I bought a trench digging shovel. Much more narrow and easier to use.
I bought the ricomax detector and so far I like it. My very first find, was an old rusty staple I found in my yard. I'm no expert, but thought for the money it did pretty good. It was spot on.
A super and honest product review Gin. 👍👍👍
Thanks Bobby - it was an interesting experience doing it. 🙂
Hi Gin. I had that same detector, I bought at home Depot for $40.00 . I played with it for a couple of days and found a few coins and relics. I ended up giving it to the neighbor kid. That made his day. Thanks for the great review and see you on the next one.
Hey Mike, you know I was actually thinking this could be a good detector for a kid because it’s so simple to use and inexpensive.
@@LuckyGin Definitely Gin. And Christmas is right around the corner. The hard part is finding a kid that's actually interested in treasure hunting.
Hey, I really like your envelope idea for your test area. I would enjoy you altering the distance between the coil and envelope to verify target ID is consistent and get an idea of depth capabilities. Thank you for sharing your adventures. I enjoy your channel!
Thanks James. You know, I actually did some distance tests on several of those targets, but my video was running so long that I didn’t include them. 🤦🏼♀️
I retired after 32 years as a Firefighter/EMT-P in Harwich on Cape Cod. My oldest daughter always said when I retire I’m going to be the old guy on the beach with a metal detector 😂 She bought me this exact same metal detector as a retirement joke! Going to try it next week on the local beaches…
Congratulations on your retirement Glenn! I hope you find a nice big gold ring your first day out! 🍀🍀🍀🍀
Nice that they sent you a unit to try out. I really like the envelope idea for testing. Great idea. Take care.
Hello my friend - nice to see you tonight! I’m keeping those envelopes stacked up and hopefully will get to try some other units soon. Even though this was a very inexpensive unit, I did find some things about it that I liked and will hopefully see on others.
Great review Gin!! Never thought of the envelope idea you did, makes for a great way to teach... pair of blue jeans and cowboy boots and a cap... WOW!! Thanks for the video! The last thing dug looks like a coax cable end.... if no one else told you...😎👍
Thanks James. Jeans, boots, and a hat are my favorite outfit anytime I have a choice. ❤️🤗
Very nice video Gin, especially for beginners to learn the different sounds of different objects. Keep up the great work 👍
Thanks so much. I didn’t have anyone experienced to teach me so this is what I came up with. 🙂
@@LuckyGin it’s a very good idea. I learned from my Dad. He would just put things out on the lawn and go see and listen. But I like your idea of writing on the envelopes so you can go back and check again if the sound of another object sounds similar to a different one. After doing it long enough, you learn to memorize most the sounds. But it was also important to point out how a pull tab can be the same sound as a ring. That’s why I dig then all up lol 👍
@@richardspezzano1098 - I have really struggled with learning the sounds on the Nokta. Honestly, they still all sound about the same to me. It’s frustrating. I wish they were more distinctively different.
Good review Gin, if its their I say for sure you will find it, all you need is better ground like an old town park something with history and thanks again for showing us the detector.
Thanks for stopping by tonight Tom. It’s always nice to see you. 🙂 I’d love to find an old park to detect. I don’t have any near me that are very old. 😕
Gr8 envelope idea. I have been thinking of getting the Garrett AT Max or Gold. Never detected before but seems like the best out there according to other videos ive seen. I need one that detects diamonds for the next trip to the crater of diamonds in Arkansas lol.
I like how you think - a diamond detector. 😍🤩🙂
Nice review Gin 👍 That was my first detector Gin the recomax. Used it for a cpl months then upgraded to a garrett and a simplex. Let the grandkids play with the recomax and they have a blast hunting with grandpaw. And it does find things. Thanks for video and keep diggin and be safe 😁
Hi Ronnie, That’s really cool to hear. That’s exactly what I imagined for this one. 👍
Intersting way to calibrate the detector. I watch many detector subscriptions and always thought it was just experience. Maybe in most cases but a great tip for beginners.
I’d say you are right. Most of these fellas have been at it forever and seem to know what they are about to dig before they dig it. I guess I’ve still not developed the ear for it, but hopefully it will come. Going through this exercise helps me, and also helps to try and remember what numbers things ring up as. I’m terrible at remembering anything with numbers. 🤦🏼♀️
Thanks for the honest review. If you get a choppy signal, turn 90 degrees on the target and check again. Might help with I D. Thanks.
I’ve started trying that a bit more because I saw someone say that if a coin is on it’s edge it can ring funny depending on the direction you are swinging. Thanks for stopping by this evening Joseph. 🙂
Enjoyed the product review. I think you were accurate on the Ricomax especially when you said for a modestly priced detector it does alright. Nice job
I tried to give a fair and honest review. Not everyone can afford an expensive detector when getting started. 🙂
glad to see you using your pinpointer more cool vid
I’m learning to be friends with it. 😉🙂
Great review! Having never detected before, I found the envelope idea very interesting!
Awesome - hopefully you’ll get to try it out soon!
Nice review. Like the test set up you did, I never thought of placing in bags.
Thank you. I just keep those envelopes and reuse them whenever I want to test something out or do a comparison. 🙂
Great review Gin. Looks like that would be a great kids starter detector
Thanks Tony, that was kind of my thought too. 🙂
Great job Gin,,, sweet, sweet, sweet....
Thanks Bobbo! It’s hard to make reviews interesting but I did my best. 🤗
I found it very informative,,, and very impressed with the dynamics... On top of that your calm demeanor, comes across very well throughout the whole video...
@@anchorfastanc - Thank you Bobbo. It was a challenging video to make.🤗❤️
Interesting review of that machine. Nicely done
Thank you. 🙂
Nice test, and seems like a good machine. Having removable batteries is a good thing when they sit in a cupboard for a while.
Just a tip when testing a new machine, turn the sensitivity or gain all the way down. You shouldn’t pick up a lot of other targets to interfere, you can then lift your coil a little at a time as your sweeping over the targets to see what depth you can get.
If you can find the target on the surface with your pin pointer, you can use your small trowel to dig it out and have a much smaller clod to search through to find the target.
You’re doing great at this and making good footage while doing it. Keep up the good work!
Now see, you just answered one of my questions. I was really trying to imagine in what scenario you’d want to rely on removable batteries. I thought maybe if you would be going somewhere where recharging wasn’t an option, but that’s about all I could come up with. Thanks so much for all the input. I appreciate you! 🤗❤️🍀
If you have built-in battery pack and it goes bad and it will go bad you might have to send it into the company to get the internal battery pack replaced and you might be without your metal Detector for while. With replaceable batteries you can easily find batteries or get rechargeable batteries for your dector without sending it in.
A good informative video, I'll be trying the envelope method to help identify tones. Thanks
Thanks for stopping by Bernie. You can also try flipping the envelopes over and seeing if you can identify the tones correctly. 🙂
Good test review, get yourself a Lesche digger for those shallow targets
Thanks Dennis! I appreciate you dropping by my channel!
Thanks for sharing; good job, LG
Thanks Jody! I appreciate you dropping by the latest video with those positive vibes. 🤗
Great video love your accent I use an equinox I found a lot of gold with the equinox I have many detectors at equinox is my go-to detector
Thanks Earl. I love hearing which detectors people like. I’m going to eventually add another one. 🙂
I live in Naples so most of my hunting is all Beach hunting it's not very many older places to hunt around here
thanks for the review..owesome,..☺️👍👍👍👏👏👏
I like the way you set up your test very interesting the hex thing was a tv cable end from the looks of it. Great video Gin 😁👍 I guess you may have given me the ambition to dig out my old Garret which I use primarily to find survey markers ain't that special 🤣
Come on, go for it Will! There could be treasure just waiting for you to find it. 🍀
It was good review.I enjoyed the video and good Luck
Hi Jimmy - it’s nice to see you tonight my friend. Thanks for stopping by with the good vibes. ❤️
HI. The heavy iron thing at 22:55 might be the end of the crank handle for an old automobile window mechanism.
I have a Ricomax pinpointer I've used for a couple of years and it works well. I had no idea Ricomax made detectors. Great video!
Hi Norm, thanks for dropping by my channel. 🤗. I’m glad to hear you’ve had good luck with a Ricomax product, and thanks for sharing your thoughts on my mystery item. 🙂
Great review. 👍
I suggest a couple of rechargeable batteries, if it's suitable for someone. Good luck.
That is a great suggestion! That would solve the recharging issue. 👍
I have one but don’t care for it maybe I need to slow down. I noticed you left the discriminator at zero I always have mine at 10. Maybe that’s my problem. Going to give it a try at 0. Great demo
That piece that you weren't sure what it is it is the end fitting for a crimped hose like a brake line.
Very well Done Gin!
Thank you!
Very good review 👏 👍 nice detector
Thank you! 🤗
Gin,
That is a connector for cabling. Might be a piece of thin copper wire inside.
The Slow v. Fast, on the coil maybe directly related to the shape. I've noticed that with old Garrett coils. Compared to the AT Pro or Max.
Thanks Philip - that’s interesting that shape and speed have a relationship. Thanks for stopping by and sharing that info. 🙌🍀
The piece you think is for airing up tires is the end of a cable wire, keep up the great work
Thanks Mike - it looked familiar but I just couldn’t quite place it. 🙂
very informative. i have a real cheapo detector that my boss got just for finding nails around the stables, still havent figured it out, i need to watch u more
Aha, yet another use for the lower end detectors! I guess if you aren’t out on the hunt for treasure then an affordable one would work fine. Thanks for stopping by and sharing that thought Tim. 🤗
Good morning Tim, if the cheapie detector is from harbor freight, I bought one of those years ago for one of my grandkids. It worked backwards. Made a tone when there was no target, and got quiet over the target.
@@billsloan9318 it's cheap. I just haven't learned to use it. It might end up being not too bad.
@@billsloan9318 - I’m just imaging this - I’d be so mad! Good grief!
@@LuckyGin I ended up getting him a Garrett Ace 250. He used it a couple of times and then gave it back. He said he was sweating to much from being outside.🤣🤣🤣
Great video Gin :) I have a couple Fisher Gold Bug Pro/Teknetiks G1 chinese clones that I got from Aliexpress. They are excellent! They are literally the same thing as the originals and probably just rebranded. 🙂
Thanks John. 🤗 Nice to see you again! Sometimes an affordable item can work just as well as an expensive one, so that’s why I was open to trying this out. This definitely didn’t have the depth of my Nokta, but it’s also far cheaper. Not a bad detector to have if a friend wants to tag along.
I was thinking about buying one of those a while back. Many different options you can pick from.
I think if you don’t have one yet then it might be worth saving to get one you can recharge. This might be a good option for someone who’s not sure if they’ll enjoy the sport and wants to get an affordable trial run.
i bought a gc-1072 metal detector and i cannot find any thing on it,i bought it over a year ago.stll in the box,i am going to try it out this summer!
I hope you find something fabulous with it!🍀
Alat penditeksi yang bagus, salam sahabat mu dari indonesia🇲🇨🤝🤝
Terima kasih banyak kerana melawat rakan saya. Senang jumpa awak. Saya harap anda mendapat banyak rezeki.
Have you tried the Ricomax GC-1037 At a ocean beach in damp or wet sand? mine constantly comes up w
ith different signals. like there's metal there.
I haven’t tried it there, but maybe try putting your ground balance down to zero. I’ve used other detectors not really meant for the beach and been able to make it work by making that adjustment. Some machines just can’t handle the salt though, so it may not work. Worth a try though.🙂
Gin,
Based on your location in TN.
Kellyco Metal Detector had a East TN showroom in Knoxville TN. Not sure of their current status. But might be a partnership for thought . ☘
James
That is really good to know - I didn’t even realize there was a showroom in the state. I’ll have to plan a trip! 😍🍀
Great review, that looks like a really decent turn on and go detector for a beginner. Easy to use and actually find decent targets. As always, such a relaxing video you put out. Have a great week.
Hey Rick, nice to see you tonight. I appreciate you stopping in and commenting. ❤️
@@LuckyGin You're welcome, have a great week. ❤
To be very honest, if you want to try a new machine try the Simplex. Best Machine ever. It's even better than your detector, for half of cost. That yellow stuff that you're using, honestly forget it, my personal opinion.
Just do a test using the Simplex a you'll see and feel what I'm talking about.
Hello from the Garden State
Hi NJ, thanks for dropping by my channel to share your thoughts. I’ve definitely noticed that lots of detectorists love the Simplex. Hopefully I’ll have the chance to try one out soon. 🤞🍀 Happy hunting!
@@LuckyGin thank you you'll love the Simplex. I did and my Anfibio it's "Simply" retired lol
the solid heavy piece looks like a rocker arm for a car engine, the other piece is a coaxial cable connector
Thanks Kenneth! I appreciate you visiting my channel. 🙂🍀
Привет красивой кладоискательнице !!! Лайк и подписка на канал ! Ждём новых видео и удачи тебе !!!
That's a neat little detector. I wonder how it would do in a head to head test against your detector.
Hey Kurt, thanks for dropping by. 🤗. There wouldn’t be any competition in a head to head; the Nokta goes much deeper and picks up super tiny objects. But it also costs far more.
Nice review 👍 Don't think I'll be getting one 😂😂😂 but I get the whole review thing... Go ahead Miss Thing doing reviews. Gen is the Shhhh😂 THE JUICE 🥤
Haha, well I’m not sure I’ll do another review for a while. It was a lot of work! I did learn some things from doing it though and found a couple of features I wish my main detector had. (Like named target labels instead of just numbers. I suck at remembering numbers. Don’t judge me if I use a sharpie on my other one and add labels) 😂😂😂
@@LuckyGin 😂😂 if you only new the things I did to remember the numbers 😂 and My piano too 😂 I wrote all over that thing 🤣 Anyways as long as you had some fun, That's all that counts right 👍 Be Blessed Girlfriend. THE JUICE LOVE'S YA 🥤
@@CanYouDigItMetalDetecting - Thanks Juice! Love you too my friend! 😘
really cool to see the Demo of this detector
Thanks so much!
Last piece looks like a coax cable end
Enjoyed the demo. Don't think I want that detector. Good job.
The second to the last item was and end to a TV cable coax cable connector,,,,,,,,,,,
👌👌👌
Hello Jen! I would love collaborate with you on future metal detecting videos. Maybe get you up to Michigan, or meet up with near you location. Let me know if you would be interested. :)
Hey Ken, I will probably look to do some collabs next year. I’ve already got a lot booked this season with travel, etc. Thanks for the offer - much appreciated. 🤗🍀
@@LuckyGin Sounds good. 😀
Nice
Thank you!
I think that is a cable end.
Oh, you are probably right about that!
How deep will it read
LG you are so interesting and smart .most women know more about make up .but not this lady Brilliant I also love to watch Digger Dawn ! thanks for making cool vids .J
Well thank you. I love watching Digger Dawn too! She’s so funny and her joy and enthusiasm comes through in her videos. 😍
Hey Gin, just curious do you have a facebook page yet, show off your finds and help your channel, ive been on Vacation this week, so ive been using this as a chamce too get too know my Equinox 600 better and I also have the Garrett At Max and The Garrett Ace Apex, Thanks for the videos, I love watching you grow in this hobby, God Bless
Hi Brian, I did finally start a Facebook page though there’s not much to it yet. Life has been pretty busy lately, but I’m working on it. I’ve got the link for it in my about section. 🙂
done subscribe👍
Awesome! Thanks for joining me and a big welcome! 🤗🍀
Nice review. Fyi . Your way to hot to be digging treasures out of the ground lol..
A pretty woman who loves metal detectors, what more could a man ask for? Marry me please...lol...Great vid!
😂🤣😂🙌🍀
reactivity on that machine is so bad, and for the love of god get yourself a bigger shovel :D
😂😂😂
No disrespect but no way lol
Great review Gin. That one piece in the end of a coaxial cable. The button was a nice bonus while cleaning up your test area. Happy hunting and be well
Thanks so much! I’d hunted that area a bit before and so was surprised at what all I found.
@@LuckyGin you are welcome. I just dug 3 silver coins at a permission I have been detecting for almost 4 years now. I was definitely surprised considering I have walked over that ground many times.
