Could you do a military shaving video/series of videos? History of shaving from revolutionary war, civil war, ww1 ww2 and so on and the types of supplies used and issued. Razors, soaps and whatnot. It would be something different from other shaving channels. Keep up the great videos!
I'm with you Sam. I am very interested in the history of shaving as well. I do hope Ken will consider. It would be quite a commitment but I bet Ken would produce an excellent history
@Rocko Theman I own a van Der Hagen and yes you use both sides they are great they a bit mild but for the price it's worth it another great cheap razor is cvs and the walgreens brand there the same and there 13 bucks each
I used to use a lot of English Leather and British Sterling back in the day since I had a British car in the 70’s. Wasn’t English Leather the one with the round wood cap? Besides my badger brushes, I have the same VDH bowl, soap and brush set. I also got a cremo horse hair brush and shave cream set as a Christmas gift a few years ago from my son. I agree there are reasonable priced soaps razors and blades. Why not use them?
Yes sir. I started with some Poraso preshave, a bowl, Poraso green, a decent shave brush and some astra greens. I was all set. A few weeks later I was hooked. I now have a few vintage razors, a few Edwin Jaggers, an R41 and others as well as some soaps and creams. It definitely turned into a hobby for me but still love it. Won't go back. But to be honest the cartridge razors never irritated or gave me a bad shave I just go sick of paying so much to replace the heads. I was a Gilette Pro Fusion with Edge Gel user. I still haven't gotten the courage up yet to shave my head with a DE blade so I still keep the razor around if needed. Keep them up Ken.
I’m amazed to see DE razors in shops today. Wilkinson have the TTO and the plastic black one. You can even buy DE blades in some pharmacies, and brushes too. It’s great that there still there.
This was my first set. I bought the shave set and the Van der Hagen razor at a pharmacy store. I still have them, and years later the brush and razor still work well.
Experienced my first shave with a double edge safety razor using one of these things just the other day. Best shave I've ever had! I'm now a believer. Funny, I saw this video in my recommended after looking at a couple reviews and how-to's on this razor and wet-shaving. Now I'm going to call my bathroom my "shaving den."
Thank you. Thank you. Thank you! I'm just starting out and all that was available to me was the Van Der Hagen items. Sadly I was raised by a single mother so I didn't have this knowledge available to me when I was younger. Your video is greatly appreciated!
This is the kit I started out with. It was a Birthday present from my kids back in 2014. I've been using VDH butterfly, Wilkinson Sword blades, VDH puck, and VDH brush this whole time until I started branching out just this month. I had no idea there were so many options out there! I'm a pipe smoker, so spending money I don't have on huge, mostly pointless collections is already second nature to me B-)
Kensurfs Oh, no doubt! I have a whole separate humi just for my Jose Garcia blends (My Father's, Tatuaje, etc). Since starting to expand this month, I've already bought four extra soaps, one cream, two brushes, and I'm about to get a new DE and a Captains Choice bowl. I can already see where this is going lol
Can confirm new to de razors. Cut the crap out of my face with the blades provided with the razor. Will be getting different blades tomorrow and trying again later
I got a Wilkinson Sword vintage style DE razor with 5 blades for $20. Wilkinson brush for $7 and Wilkinson shave soap for $4.50. I just ordered 100 blades for $8 online. You're right, you don't need to spend a lot of $$$ to start getting a great wet shave. The basic stuff is out there.
You're right about pampering yourself and wet shaving becoming a hobby. I have several vintage Gillette TTO razors to include a Psyco-tech razor. I have a few vintage Old Spice after shave, and also found the telescope decanter for display. It never stops! I love this world of wet shaving. Thanks for putting content or there!
I used that shaver for the first time today, my first time using a safety razor compared to using cartridges in high school. I had quite some thick and long growth to shave but, 1 pass, it was the closest shave also with the least irritation (none) I've ever had. I had like 1 micro cut but much less and smaller than when I used cartridges. I also only used some jojoba oil before and after (no soap, no brush, no aftershave). I am curious about seeing if the Castile soap I regularly have will work in place (it's simple ingredients and lathers pretty thick). Glad to have this razor, it's better than my experience with cartridges. might try out different blades.
That Van Der Hagen logo looks like Mühle (Mill). And it’s from Germany. Maybe it’s the cheaper version of Mühle. Something like Fender vs Squier in guitars.
graat video , today I bought the van der hagen razor only to have it , since I have a lot of other ones but more expensive, but I want to give it a try, you are saying that you are talking to much, for me it is a pleasure hear to talking , your experience is wonderful for people like me who is starting being a wet shaving fan, my den is growing , more then 40 soaps and and several razors, greetings from mexico , Incredible , I wake up with pleasure , only to have a great shave ,and I do the process taking enough time so it is a nice moment starting my day
I've used all kinds of blades in my life, and alot of things they have stopped making. The best blades I have now that I used better than any are the Feather from Japan. They are sharp . I also use different types of razors. Thanks for sharing your videos.
I went with a vintage de Gillette as my first razor when I was 17. That’s another great option for beginners is to check your local antique shop for razors and just steralize. Thanks for another great vid Ken!
Believe it or not here in Windsor Colorado all you can find out here is the Van Der Hagen brand of DE razor and blades but no Wilkinson blades, or any other brand except we have the King C. Gillette razor($30.00) and blades but if I want to get the Wilkinson blades( and Williams Shaving Mug soap which is the only shaving soap I use because I can't get the ones online, don't have a credit card ) I have to travel 10 miles to Fort Collins but from the results I get its worth it.
I just watched your wet shave for beginners again for probably the 3rd time, yes all 30-minutes. I really enjoy the relaxing information. I should be receiving my Leaf Shave tomorrow, I'm very excited. I still want to get a traditional double edge since they share the same blades.
I just bought the vander hagen safety from Walmart. My first safety razor. I done fucked up my line up. Nicked the shit out of my face but overall it was a good close shave with no irritation. Just need to get acclimated to using it. I remember when I was a kid watching my dad shave he always had his bag with all his tools and he always used the original old spice after shave. I can still smell it in my memory. I personally use Clubman aftershave cause it reminds me of the barbershop I used as a kid.
I just shaved with this kit and it felt dull and ripped up my face. I tried 3 blades and they all felt dull so I had to press down harder to get the shave. I used barbasol and maybe I didn’t use enough? Do safety razors clog up faster than a cartridge? I did read van see Hagen razor blades are bad so I bought a 5 pack of feather on Amazon.
Jake, Vanderhagen blades are terrible, this razor only works with Feather blades because it’s so mild. This was my first de razor. Now I prefer 3 piece razors, also Barbasol is not good for DE razors.
You've gained a new subscriber here thoroughly enjoyed the video, I started wet shaving recently, I'm only 18 but I love the style of it and I'm starting to get the hang of it, love shaving now. Again great video and love that you're a real guy behind the camera.
yes Ken , once you got more than one soap or brush or razor , you need more haha, I am also an addict , but it makes my life nicer , I wake up only thinking in what soap or brush or razor to use haha, greetings form Mexico , don't worry about speaking to much, we do appreciate your opinion and experiences also your family events
I used aftershave balm which I used in the past I Don't use aftershave although I have some , what I was told was it can I say it can wringle your skin I Don't use it.
I went to the store to check it out but the handle is pretty short. I want to just get one that I'll use forever so I want it to be one I know I'll like
Hi Been watching your videos and you inspired me to take up wet shaving. Am 52 years old and only ever shaved with electric razors. Wow what a difference a wet shave makes to your mood in the mornings. Ho and thanks to your informative tutorials I still have a face.
You are insightful, open-minded, and charismatic. I have discovered DE razors recently. I greatly appreciate your methodical, and personable videos.. Thank you, Kind Sir.
VDH razor I tried with the VDH blade , once ! The blade tugged and ripped hair and cut me several times. Will never use those blades again. The razor however ain't so Bad , tried it with Darby blades and sharks and Astor. All worked way better than those that came with the razor. Sharks work best for my beard type. The pre shave saved you! Good call on that. Great shave and tutorial on how to get equipment and started. Almost exactly what I started using.i used to de shave in the 70s but blades increased in difficulty finding quality like wilkenson and gellette so I went to the multi blade and electric razor.decided to start up again and dug out the old gear and bought new stuff then found Paul H and Kevy shaves and you online and started buying stuff from West coast and shave Nation and Arizona accoutrements . Haven't looked back lol . Have a great weekend and great shaves 👍
I've just started with safety razors, this model actually and have shaved 4 times with the stock blades, same blade. I personally didn't have a bad experience. I'm going to purchase a few of each of astra, feather, Derby and a few others to try. Obviously I can't compare this to other de blades but other than a slight burn, which seemed to be from pushing too hard and an incorrect angle (only used cartridge for the last decade and a half) I've been lucky I guess. Looking forward to trying other blades.
@Noah Williams thanks for the tip. I was going to use the tryablade site where you can order practically any blade with any quantity.. even a single blade. I ended up getting the beginner sample pack at razor emporium. It should arrive today or tomorrow. It was like 6 bucks for 35ish blades, lord, astra blue, astra green, feather and one other I can't remember which. I will keep your suggestion in mind though. I appreciate the input
Thank you sir. I just bought that razor from Walmart I’m afraid to try it but my grandpa sweared by them. I’m going to try it out. I will only do the one pass I’m a little rough lol. Thanks for the tips and honest opinion.
Hey Ken...new subscriber! I love all things care, for men: colognes, razors, toiletries, etc. I became a member shortly after you reviewed Bevel shaving products. Please do a skin care video. We men of a certain age, have to stay on point!
Ken, great video. I started with the Van Der Hagen brush, soap, and Shave mug set when I started out. I was still using Dollar Shave Club 5 blade cartridge at the time. I did not get the bowl, my mug is the classic Shave mug with the knob handle. I also have the Cremo horse hair brush; it works well for the money. I still use my Van Der Hagen brush in my rotation because of its backbone and lather ability.
This video is the reason why I started wet shaving. The first razor I bought was the Vander Hagen and the green pack of astra blades. Thanks for the video
Great video, Ken! I've been using my WCS 175B Midnight collection, and getting the best shaves in my life. Thanks for that demo a couple of months back. At 7.5 ounces, I hope I don't drop it on my foot. Enjoy your weekend!!
Since there is no specific store dedicated to shaving where I live, I had to rely on Walmart/Target to get my products. Those were the exact items I first bought when I started wet shaving a couple months ago! Excellent video! This is perfect for my friend who just started shaving with a safety blade yesterday! Marvelous timing Ken, another outstanding episode!
Really nice vod, man. Many people create the Myth that a good shave comes with expensive gear. I really like this vidos with inexpensive gear. Congrats.
I couldnt find the shave set with the brush bowl and soap at walmart Walgreens or rite side in my area but, I found it at my local bi mart store, they carry the set, the brushes separate and soaps, pretty cool. I recently also found a gillette slim twist m4 razor from the early 70s, works ok
I bought that set from Krogers about a year ago. I just saw it and said, "what the heck, why not. I already use an electric trimmer to edge myself up". I'm hooked and not going back. I just bought some Parker blades for it yesterday. I do need to get a brush and bowl.
I'm not sure what my issue was but I was experiencing chronic, painful razor burn using this razor and the default razors that came with it. I switched the razors out to use Derby and I dodnn't have the same problems.
I just bought two Van Der Hagen safety razor sets today at the Dollar General store 50% off. The regular price was $10, they came with 10 razor blades and a small thing of shave butter. If I don't like the blades I'll just put a Voskhod blade in the razor, because so far those blades are my favorite.
Great video Ken! I've been wet shaving for 5 yrs, I bought the shave set I used the brush for 3yrs everyday it started to lose hairs so I used other brushes but lately I've went back to that brush it's so worn in it feels like a badger. my razor was the micro touch, same as the vh. it came with dorco blades. it's a mild razor but I shimed it with 2 old cut blades and I love it.Just goes to show you of all the expensive gear I've purchased since then, I still enjoy my first cheap products
I've just started with safety razors, this model actually and have shaved 4 times with the stock blades, same blade. I personally didn't have a bad experience. I'm going to purchase a few of each of astra, feather, Derby and a few others to try. I’ve used this van der hagen and Barbasol for my entire first year of wet shaving. Also used the same pack of razors you get in the razor package. I just ordered a Shavette and a pack of 120 variety blades. Might get a brush and soap soon. We’ll see
Kensurfs I bought a Gillette Super Speed D3 date code in almost new condition ... I still have the same soap and bowl with a nice acrylic stand and 100 Wilkinson sword blades ... I'll upgrade my soap next and then a new brush ... I think my daughter is getting me an Edwin Jagger DE89 for Father's day ... So I'm on my way ... PS I just Subscribed ...
I also have this razor. I’m new to wet shaving. My first times it was pulling my hair and did not feel smooth. I thought it was just my poor technique. I think I will try some different blades.
Awesome video Ken! Great for folks that are newer to wet shaving. It is addicting, but a lot of fun. I typically do not use lotion type aftershaves, but I recently picked up some original Afta aftershave lotion at my local drugstore. I forgot how much I liked that and brought me back to the late 90s when I was using it a lot. Love the vintage stuff. Keep them coming!
Fascinating; I got the same razor you’re showing today. My first experience with it was not good. I used the blades that came with it. I have been using the Gillette King C and it does fine for me. I was surprised when I used the Van Der Hagan that, while it gave a very close shave; the blade really tugged on me; and it really cut my face very badly. I’m not sure why I had such a bad experience as many others really praise this razor. I do have a very heavy beard so it may be that, but it was no problem with the Gillette. So I don’t know if it’s my technique or just not the razor for my face. I’m amazed at how people have such different experiences with various razors. Nice to see the old after shaves. You’re right it can be addictive. I just tried the Van Der Hagan because it was inexpensive and I love their shaving cream so I had high expectations. For now I’m sticking with the Gillette. I’ve seen both very good and very bad reviews of this Van Der Hagen, so interesting how each razor gets such wide responses.
Found a Van der Hagens kit at Dollar General for $10; has a razor, shaving butter and 10 blades (different packing and made in China). Will try it out...probably not the blades....
Outstanding shave Ken. The Van Der Hagen razor is about $20 bucks in Walmart & they also offer a starter kit which has an Apothecary style shave bowl, shave soap, pure badger brush & a razor stand which runs about $25 dollars give or take a little. You should "encourage" your son to try a soap & brush with that Mach 3 razor. He'll love the results he will get using that set up. I've been doing that with a Gillette Fusion Proglide & the new Proshield off & on for months now due to sensitive skin issues & it works great.
I had a few extra small ceramic salsa bowls lying around that proved to work fantastic for loading soap. Just drop the puck in there and you're good to go.
I started wet shaving with that exact same Van Der Hagen razor years ago, and always used there blades with it because that what was sold at the PX/BX near me. It always felt like there packs of blades were rather expensive ($7 for 5 on average) and started experimenting with other blades. Then I realized that those are some of my least favorite blades I have ever used, will even take dollar store blades over them. However the razor itself I do actually really like, though no matter what blade you have it will be a very mild shave. Even with my collection of Gillette's, straight razors etc, the Van Der Hagen with yellow Gillette blade is my go to for a quick I need to get out the door shave. The other thing I like on that razor is that it is actually chrome plated brass so the finish should last for years. Generally I say it is one of the best budget starting double edged safety razors out there for the price, especially if paired with a decent blade. I will also add I do really like the Van Der Hagen shave soap, but a lot of that is the really mild smell that will actually linger in my home for hours after I shaved, my roommate doesn't even notice it but it is just enough to help relax me when I come back home.
Nice video Ken...The Van Der Hagen razor and the mug/brush/bowl set is a great way to get started with not a lot of money. This are great learner set...the 4-door sedan of razors...try one for a bit, before you go driving that fast sports car. Heck...If I forgot all my shave stuff on a trip I'd pop out to a store and pick a set up.
I used a safely razor (Manscaped - The Plow I think) for the first time about a week ago & it turned out nice. I didn't cut myself for the shear reason that I've researched straight razor shaving and knife shaving tutorial videos. The experience and results of the safety razor is very rewarding one personally.
I recently acquired a Van Der Hagen razor from Target back in March, and haven't gone back to the cartridges since(I use the Van Der Hagen blades). It does a great shave. I also got a Bevel brush and a squeeze shave cream from Cremo.
I actually bought this razor yesterday because I really wanted to experience shaving without using a cartridge like I had done for years. First time I used the blades, it tugged and cut up my chin, so I bought some Astra blades to use because the blades the Van Der Hagan wasn't a good experience. I also am getting a straight razor. I didn't think I'd end up in this rabbit hole. I had to learn to shave on my own since my dad didn't teach me.
Ok so my grandmother buys me stuff like deodorant and razors Instead of video games and things, some people think it’s weird but I personally enjoy personal products like that, I hadn’t had old spice classic deodorant in a while so she surprised me with a stick and it made me remember how much I enjoyed the smell so I asked her if she could get me after shave to match and of course she said sure and now after using old spice aftershave I have found a new hobby in wanting to start wet shaving and enjoying different aftershaves and things, there’s just something amazing about the finer things in life like an amazing shave.
This razor is what I started out with and it worked but after watching your videos started buying Gillette razors off of eBay and wow what a difference it makes went from bleeding every time to hardly ever that’s for teaching us younger guys the tips and tricks
I've become addicted to wet shaving. I got started with Gentleman Jon and like their soaps and shavers. I like the Astra Superior Platinum blades (dang Russian Blade Bots!). I just ordered Proraso Green from Amazon and will be giving that a try next. Good channel; I'm glad I found it, I can point to it the next time my wife gripes that 65$ is too much for a brush hehe.
Yes, Dollar Shave Club has the Executive with a 6 blade cartridge. They don't sell anything but cartridges. They were my absolute favorite and it was $9 a month for 4 cartridges.
I have the shaver that you are demoing in this video. As a first-time wet shaver person and owner of one, I have a greater shaving experience that works for me.
I was scrolling through your older videos and came across this one. That brush and bowl kit you used is the one I have and I just picked up a package of those Van Der Hagen blades. I love your videos and I too love those nostalgic after shaves.
You should do a $30 or $40 dollar walmart challenge. Walk in with like $40 and get some off the shelf products and test them out. That would be fun for those who may be on a tight budget. Should be a fun one for you too, seeing what you can get for $40
Great informative video Ken. I still use my Van Der Hagen razor at least twice a week. My main shaving soap is the Van Der Hagen Luxury soap., Keep them great vids coming.
Thank you . I got a kit from Walmart. I did my first shave and cut the hell out of my face . My chin . Omg . I like the razer . It is a whal . It looks and feels like a 34 c. The brush is OK. I'm going to try again in a few days .
I was going to get a real 34 c or a Jagger 89 but I wanted to see if I could do this first . I hope I can get over cutting myself . I do think safety razers are the best way to go . It has been one day. I hope my face looks better tomorrow . How many days do you think I should wait before I try again ? My beard grows fast .
Bro, I was SO close to putting a Feather blade in the Van Der Hagen safety I just bought LOL. Thanks for saving me. I used a safety razor for a bit back in my 20's and I mostly liked the results, but I was shaving with regular bar soap and no prep, so it was never really a comfortable shave. Lately, I've been doing more prep before shaving with a cartridge, so I figured I'd go back and try a safety razor again, now that I practice better skin and beard care. Also, I've always loved rocking those old drug store scents. Old Spice, English Leather, Brut or a good bay rum. I know they're not for everyone, but sometimes I wanna smell like I stepped out of a different decade LOL. I've got a whole frikkin box of Pinaud products on the way right now 😂
It's hard to go cheap now Ken. I love my Shavemac MB3, and my Aqua Di Parma shave cream! Absolutely top notch stuff, excellent pampering! Lol. Great shave Ken! Have a great day!
Good Shave Ken, I use the Van Der Hagen Razor and i love it, the Blades to me where all right, they cut a few times but that wet shaving, and the Van Der Hagen Kit was the 1st Kit I brought too get in to wet shaving
How are you so mellow and calm? It's like listening to Buddha shave. I wish I could be this chill all the time. Love your positive vibes.

I have the mürker 34c with a feather blade. German safety razors and Japanese blade are where it’s at. 👌

That Van Der Hagen logo looks like Mühle (Mill). And it’s from Germany. Maybe it’s the cheaper version of Mühle. Something like Fender vs Squier in guitars.
I’m 56 and love the old classic after shaves. I have an Old Spice, Pinaud Clubman and Brut in rotation.

the problem with the TTO van der hagen razor is that it opens during shaving, so it is important to srew it close with force
I have literally never had that happen with any tto are you barley closing it?
I haven’t had that issue yet
graat video , today I bought the van der hagen razor only to have it , since I have a lot of other ones but more expensive, but I want to give it a try, you are saying that you are talking to much, for me it is a pleasure hear to talking , your experience is wonderful for people like me who is starting being a wet shaving fan, my den is growing , more then 40 soaps and and several razors, greetings from mexico , Incredible , I wake up with pleasure , only to have a great shave ,and I do the process taking enough time so it is a nice moment starting my day
robert broes Thank you Robert👍💈
Absolutely becoming my favorite razor for daily and pairs perfectly with that VDH shave butter that’s been sitting in my shaving locker for years.
I've used all kinds of blades in my life, and alot of things they have stopped making. The best blades I have now that I used better than any are the Feather from Japan. They are sharp . I also use different types of razors. Thanks for sharing your videos.
Thank you👍🎄🎄
The Rockwell I have is my favorite razor so far. I use it 90% of the time.

MindScienceAlchemy excellent👍💈
I just bought the vander hagen safety from Walmart. My first safety razor. I done fucked up my line up. Nicked the shit out of my face but overall it was a good close shave with no irritation. Just need to get acclimated to using it. I remember when I was a kid watching my dad shave he always had his bag with all his tools and he always used the original old spice after shave. I can still smell it in my memory. I personally use Clubman aftershave cause it reminds me of the barbershop I used as a kid.
My Van Der Hagen shines with feather blades! So smooth! I also use Trader Joe’s Honey Mango shave cream, just keep it wet. 👍
Louis Robinson 👍👍👍💈
I just shaved with this kit and it felt dull and ripped up my face. I tried 3 blades and they all felt dull so I had to press down harder to get the shave. I used barbasol and maybe I didn’t use enough? Do safety razors clog up faster than a cartridge? I did read van see Hagen razor blades are bad so I bought a 5 pack of feather on Amazon.
Jake,
Vanderhagen blades are terrible, this razor only works with Feather blades because it’s so mild.
Ben Perry Thanks very much Ben.its an addictive hobby👍💈
Got this razor last night,First safety razor ,i was scared but it went smooth overall !!!! I feel like a man, that just went up a rank!

yes Ken , once you got more than one soap or brush or razor , you need more haha, I am also an addict , but it makes my life nicer , I wake up only thinking in what soap or brush or razor to use haha, greetings form Mexico , don't worry about speaking to much, we do appreciate your opinion and experiences also your family events

I used aftershave balm which I used in the past I Don't use aftershave although I have some , what I was told was it can I say it can wringle your skin I Don't use it.

I went to the store to check it out but the handle is pretty short. I want to just get one that I'll use forever so I want it to be one I know I'll like

Hi
Been watching your videos and you inspired me to take up wet shaving.
Madison Lee Thank you for watching 👍💈💈
Charles Murphy You are right. Once you buy 100 good blades you are set for a while 👍💈
I've just started with safety razors, this model actually and have shaved 4 times with the stock blades, same blade.

Great beginners products Ken. Can’t beat it for the price. This hobby is very addictive indeed. I can testify to that. Lol. Wishing you all the best.

Hey Ken...new subscriber! I love all things care, for men: colognes, razors, toiletries, etc.
I became a member shortly after you reviewed Bevel shaving products. Please do a skin care

Thank you 👍👍
I LOVE Skin Bracer! It was the first thing that I bought off the shelf when I started wet shaving and I love that scent!
Craving Shaving one of my favorites 👍💈
Ken, great video. I started with the Van Der Hagen brush, soap, and Shave mug set when I started out. I was still using Dollar Shave Club 5 blade cartridge at the time. I did not get the bowl, my mug is the classic Shave mug with the knob handle. I also have the Cremo horse hair brush; it works well for the money. I still use my Van Der Hagen brush in my rotation because of its backbone and lather ability.
Josh M Very cool Josh👍💈
This video is the reason why I started wet shaving. The first razor I bought was the Vander Hagen and the green pack of astra blades. Thanks for the video
You should graduate to a mürker German razor and some feather blades.
Great video, Ken! I've been using my WCS 175B Midnight collection, and getting the best shaves in my life. Thanks for that demo a couple of months back. At 7.5 ounces, I hope I don't drop it on my foot. Enjoy your weekend!!
An optimist's optimist. Great video and shave, Ken.
Chris S Lol...Thank you👍💈
Since there is no specific store dedicated to shaving where I live, I had to rely on Walmart/Target to get my products. Those were the exact items I first bought when I started wet shaving a couple months ago! Excellent video! This is perfect for my friend who just started shaving with a safety blade yesterday! Marvelous timing Ken, another outstanding episode!
Ben G Thank you Ben👍💈

Really nice vod, man. Many people create the Myth that a good shave comes with expensive gear. I really like this vidos with inexpensive gear. Congrats.
I just tried the Van Der Hagen blades in my Merkur 34 C and had a great shave! I guess it’s the German combo!

Certain skin types prefer a different blade/razor combo
Great one Ken , looking forward to the retro shaves , for a budget shave thats some good stuff
Jeff Wardrop Thank you👍💈
I just bought two Van Der Hagen safety razor sets today at the Dollar General store 50% off.
The regular price was $10, they came with 10 razor blades and a small thing of shave butter.
If I don't like the blades I'll just put a Voskhod blade in the razor, because so far those blades are my favorite.

Great video Ken! I've been wet shaving for 5 yrs, I bought the shave set I used the brush for 3yrs everyday it started to lose hairs so I used other brushes but lately I've went back to that brush it's so worn in it feels like a badger. my razor was the micro touch, same as the vh. it came with dorco blades. it's a mild razor but I shimed it with 2 old cut blades and I love it.Just goes to show you of all the expensive gear I've purchased since then, I still enjoy my first cheap products

that blade logo looks very similar to the Muhle logo.... nice video Ken.... hope it helps the newbies.... all the best Mark
I’ve used this van der hagen and Barbasol for my entire first year of wet shaving. Also used the same pack of razors you get in the razor package. I just ordered a Shavette and a pack of 120 variety blades. Might get a brush and soap soon. We’ll see

I started with that identical setup the VDH shave soap brush bowl and razor and the blade ... A good experience ... Good video ... Thanks ...
Rick Temmen What setup are you using now Rick👍💈
Kensurfs I bought a Gillette Super Speed D3 date code in almost new condition ... I still have the same soap and bowl with a nice acrylic stand and 100 Wilkinson sword blades ... I'll upgrade my soap next and then a new brush ... I think my daughter is getting me an Edwin Jagger DE89 for Father's day ... So I'm on my way ... PS I just Subscribed ...
Rick Temmen Thank you very much Rick👍💈
Glad to see you embracing inexpensive products again. Thank you for sharing. Ken, how about making a vintage or modern California shave video?
Three Pass Shaver That sounds cool. I can add Beach footage. Any suggestions on the soap or aftershave?
I also have this razor. I’m new to wet shaving. My first times it was pulling my hair and did not feel smooth. I thought it was just my poor technique. I think I will try some different blades.
👍👍
Awesome video Ken! Great for folks that are newer to wet shaving. It is addicting, but a lot of fun. I typically do not use lotion type aftershaves, but I recently picked up some original Afta aftershave lotion at my local drugstore. I forgot how much I liked that and brought me back to the late 90s when I was using it a lot. Love the vintage stuff. Keep them coming!
bonoforeva Ione the scent and burn of the alcohol splash aftershaves but the lotions are really soothing and help dry skin so I do use both👍💈
Fascinating; I got the same razor you’re showing today.
👍👍
Found a Van der Hagens kit at Dollar General for $10; has a razor, shaving butter and 10 blades (different packing and made in China). Will try it out...probably not the blades....
talega1 be careful of the blades👍💈
You’ve inspired me to bring the bevel back for another video👍💈
Outstanding shave Ken. The Van Der Hagen razor is about $20 bucks in Walmart & they also offer a starter kit which has an Apothecary style shave bowl, shave soap, pure badger brush & a razor stand which runs about $25 dollars give or take a little. You should "encourage" your son to try a soap & brush with that Mach 3 razor. He'll love the results he will get using that set up. I've been doing that with a Gillette Fusion Proglide & the new Proshield off & on for months now due to sensitive skin issues & it works great.
Stephen Davidson I’ll tell him Stephen👍💈
I had a few extra small ceramic salsa bowls lying around that proved to work fantastic for loading soap. Just drop the puck in there and you're good to go.
Wild country aftershave was a good smelling Avon sold back in the day
I started wet shaving with that exact same Van Der Hagen razor years ago, and always used there blades with it because that what was sold at the PX/BX near me.
The VDH razor is very similar to the Weishi 9306. Very popular mild razors for beginners.
Joseph Alphonse It was a great performer and easy to find in the stores👍💈

Great products for a reasonable price.
KikoliPS Awesome👍💈
Nice thought and shave
Nate 4Shaving Someone had asked and I almost forgot this shave👍💈
This razor is what I started out with and it worked but after watching your videos started buying Gillette razors off of eBay and wow what a difference it makes went from bleeding every time to hardly ever that’s for teaching us younger guys the tips and tricks
This man has the best shave den

Should be a fun one for you too, seeing what you can get for $40
Work and Play Walmart and Target both have a great selection I can choose from👍💈
Great informative video Ken. I still use my Van Der Hagen razor at least twice a week. My main shaving soap is the Van Der Hagen Luxury soap., Keep them great vids coming.
thomasb98908 Thank you👍💈
Thank you . I got a kit from Walmart. I did my first shave and cut the hell out of my face . My chin . Omg . I like the razer . It is a whal . It looks and feels like a 34 c. The brush is OK. I'm going to try again in a few days .
Dev9172 There is nothing like a real 34C👍
I was going to get a real 34 c or a Jagger 89 but I wanted to see if I could do this first . I hope I can get over cutting myself . I do think safety razers are the best way to go . It has been one day. I hope my face looks better tomorrow . How many days do you think I should wait before I try again ? My beard grows fast .
I hope I am not like your son . I do want to learn.
Dev9172 My son never asked advice...lol👍💈
"Blast to the past"...Awesome! My bud just picked up some Hai Karate...Reminds me of my late uncle..
Thnx Ken!

I love that safety razor.
Wes Smith Excellent Razor and Shave cream👍💈
Good Shave Ken, I use the Van Der Hagen Razor and i love it, the Blades to me where all right, they cut a few times but that wet shaving, and the Van Der Hagen Kit was the 1st Kit I brought too get in to wet shaving
Always fun Ken. Thanks.
