Yep. Using iso is just confusing when you add dual gain sensors and all the different native “iso” for gamma curves etc. just keep to dB and switch between high and low gain.

Excellent Explanation - Should be mandatory for all serious Videographers & Photographers! 🤓

I came here for advice about photography... but when you started to speak about "dB of gain", I had odd memories about my amateur radio Intermediate Licence test day !!!...
Thanks for a very informative video.
I think I understood most of it... 😂
    Take care, 73!

Im in Film School and we use Gain Obviously. But myself I started lerning Photography and Filming with A Mirroles Consumer Camera Wich uses ISO. I Got confused so often. i dont get why the COnsumer cameras like sony alpha dont use gain or not even are possible to change to gain. ! Good Video!

i don't either...can you explain it to me?

Probably, branding. It is probably easier to keep naming conventions the same between cameras and models than educate customers. My best guess.

I was wondering if the sensitivity is not being changed in the sensor, then ISO must be something that happens after the exposure has hit the sensor. So what if you raised the ISO until you had the correct exposure from your lens and shutter speed etc. and then put the ISO back to native ISO. Would adding the brightness in POST be a cleaner image or would it act just like the ISO?

The problem with Panasonic is they offer “sec/iso”, “angle/iso” OR “sec/dB”. 99.9% of RUclipsrs have some obsession / fetish for shutter angle and 180° shutter bla bla bla. They don’t stop talking bout it.
