  • @MFEGoingDeep on the northside of steam ship point on Moosehead Lake lies 2 more wrecks. Featured in this episode is the remains of the Kineo, which burned and sank here and rests in about 40’ of water. Having burned before sinking there isn’t as much wood structure as the Twilight in the previous video which sank from ice damage, however the Kineo’s large steam engine as pictured in the thumbnail for this video was a very unique item to view underwater and certainly surprised me when I came upon it almost backing right into it!

Even though I never saw the ship when it was in service, there is something sad about a ship on the bottom. Interesting video.

Agreed, it must’ve been quite a time seeing all the steamships moving around the lake. Sadly like many others this one was scuttled once the time had come where roads allowed for faster and cheaper transportation around the lake.

That was really cool. I wonder what those two things were that you stayed on for awhile were? Near the end…..so intriguing 😊

Thanks! If you’re talking about what’s in the thumbnail picture for the video that whole unit is the old steam engine for the Kineo. From what I could find in research it burned to the waterline and sank. Which makes sense why there isn’t as much intact wood around this spot but the big steam engine remains. Definitely was neat to see! 😊
